Like many of us, Little Lion is sure he is the best at everything. Not only does he proclaim that he is the loudest and the fiercest, but he also lays claim to being the prettiest as well. Each time he brags, though, another animal refutes that claim, and he realizes that maybe he isn't as superior as he had originally thought. Fortunately for Little Lion, his Little Brother sees all the ways that he's wonderful and expresses admiration for his sibling. The images and end papers are just as appealing as the story with its perfect message for anyone who needs to be knocked down just a peg or two and then lifted up again through the love and admiration of another.

This children's book falls short for me as it emphasizes seeking validation from others rather than promoting the valuable idea of finding confidence within oneself. I would not keep this in my library nor read it to my class.

There wasn't really a moral to this story, and perhaps that is a reason I wouldn't read it aloud to my nephew or niece, if I ever had one.

I used this simple yet fun book to practice volume difference and control in our voices as well as learning opposites.
