Fortune’s Family Secrets by Karen Rose Smith is a 2018 Harlequin Special Edition publication.
Family secrets threaten to dissolve the budding romance between Nash and Cassie-
Cassie owns an inn/ bed and breakfast style establishment in the Avant- garde city of Austin, Texas. But, foremost, in her heart, she is an artist and uses her talent to give art lessons on top of her responsibilities at the inn.
Nash Tremont is a guest at Cassie’s Inn. He’s originally from Oklahoma but is in town doing a little private investigating off the clock, working a case that has personal ramifications for him.
But, as he and Cassie spend more time together they begin to realize they really enjoy one another’s company, and are very attracted to each other, despite the fact both of them are harboring big whopping secrets.
However, Nash finds Cassie very easy to talk to and as his feelings for her develop into something deeper he finds himself opening up to her a little more each day. But, Cassie’s secrets could change Nash’s opinion of her and send him packing. Will Cassie take a chance and trust Nash with the secrets of her troubling past?
Everyone has secrets, some more complicated than others, and we all have a right to those secrets, but in Nash and Cassie’s case, they both end up living a lie to protect themselves from getting hurt. While they may have good reasons it wasn’t healthy for them individually, much less as a couple. This means that if they want their relationship to work, they'll have to lay all their cards on the table.
I love reading stories that feature characters with strength and depth, who struggle with situations beyond their control, and fight to maintain their own integrity, while refusing to allow the circumstances to define them. I enjoy watching couples face conflict, but learn to work through their fears, doubts, and trust issues, while learning to accept and forgive in the process.
This is one of those types of stories. Wonderful characters, heartwarming gestures, combined with a little sensuality made this a satisfying contemporary romance, all the way around. 4 stars
This is a Romance, and this is the fourth book in the Fortune's of Texas: the Rulebreakers series. I have read and reviewed the third book in this series before picking up this book, but I think this book can be read as a standalone without any problems. I found the characters in this book cute, sweet, and very likable. The romance in this book was sweet and got a little steamy. I did really enjoy this book.
Innkeeper Cassie Calloway is determined to be independent. She runs her bed and breakfast by herself When Nash Tremont becomes her lodger, her life becomes very complicated. They feel a powerful connection. However both Cassie and Nash have secrets that could destroy their budding relationship. Can they open their hearts and find love? Cassie is a lovable character. Her kindness and generous heart drew me to her. I was sorry that she felt it was necessary to hide the truth about her mother. Nash is here to investigate the Fortunes. He doesn't want anyone to know that he's the illegitimate son of Gerald Robinson AKA Jerome Fortune. He's hurt that his father rejected his mother. I understood his feelings but didn't want him to burn any bridges. I thought that Cassie and Nash made a great couple. Their romance drew me in. Of course there were roadblocks to their love, but I knew that it was powerful enough to give them their HEA. I fell for Nash when he helped promote Cassie's paintings. He's a good man. Karen Rose Smith wrote a delightful story. I loved her characters, the sweet romance and the touch of suspense. I'm looking forward to the next book in The Fortunes of Texas: The Rulebreakers.
Oh wow, what an intriguing story!! This book is in The Fortunes of Texas: The Rulebreakers series, but since I haven't read any of the others I feel this book is a stand alone. The story opens in Austin, Texas where we meet the two main characters, Cassie Calloway and Nash Tremont. This is a well written story that has elements of mystery, intrigue, secrets, faith, dreams, and love. The plot is flows effortlessly and immediately pulled me in. It's full of southern charm and engaging characters. This is a wonderful story where characters find things more complicated than they had every imagine. I will be honest in that when I opened this book I didn't put it down until the last page was turned. This is a book I would recommend to anyone who loves a good, clean read.
The Fortune's are anything but a boring family. There are many of them. Some legitimate, some not so legitimate. Fortune's Family Secrets is Nash and Cassie's story. Of course it is not a smooth and easy road they travel to get their happy ever after. Both of them have painful pasts they need to get beyond. Do you think they will be able to help each other open up their heart? You'll just have to read it and find out. I loved every minute of this book.
Fortune's Family Secrets by Karen Rose Smith (The Fortunes of Texas: The Rulebreakers) The man of her dreams… is a Fortune in disguise! Innkeeper Cassie Calloway could easily fall for her newest guest. Out-of-towner Nash Tremont is hunky, handsome and handy, but Cassie’s painful past makes her afraid to trust. In this case, caution may be in order. Nash is actually an undercover cop—and a member of the Fortune family. With so many secrets between them, Cassie and Nash will have their work cut out for them. But their complicated love may be worth the fight… This is Cassie Calloway and Nash Tremont's story. Cassie Calloway squeaked as if he’d startled her. Her name was an easy one to remember, but he wasn’t thinking about her name as she tilted on the ladder, almost losing her balance. He rushed to her side and wrapped his hands around her waist. Gaining her footing once more, she peered down at him. Her tousled brown hair flowed forward and her dark brown eyes moved from his face to his hands at her waist. “Sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to startle you.” Nash Tremont came down the stairs from the second floor of the Bluebonnet Bed-and-Breakfast and followed the aroma of cinnamon and sugar and some kind of bread. His boots didn’t make a sound on the steps. After all, he was a police detective and instincts died hard. He’d hardly said two words to the proprietress of the bed-and-breakfast but now he couldn’t stop himself. “Even a veteran cowgirl should know better than to climb a ladder that’s too short.” Will their complicated love may be worth the fight? I highly recommend reading. I am looking forward to reading more books by Karen Rose Smith. This is the first Fortunes book I have read in some time and amazes the that even with multiple authors the stories blend well. Karen Rose Smith is one of my favorite cozy authors so I couldn't resist when I discovered that she had written a book in a romance series that I have long followed. This one does not have a major issue wrapped up in a single books, something a fan of the series knows to be prepared for but I was a little disappointed in how vague Nash's investigation was. I was NOT, and never have been, disappointed in the romance or the fantastic characters in this book. It is great characters that I read for that that is one of Ms. Smith's specialties. Fortune's Family Secrets have made me want to find the other books in this subseries and maybe even go back to old friends. I received a copy of the book from the author, yes in a randomized contest, and I was so excited. Thank you Karen Rose Smith for not only presenting me with new characters to love, but bring back memories of other books read and loved.
Fortune's Family Secrets is one of several The Fortunes Of Texas The Rulebreakers. Each one is by a different author. This one is by Karen Rose Smith. I don't know how many more books there are but the one main question won't get answered until the last book. I was disappointed in that. This is the first in this series I read. It is a book good between the two main people in this book. Cassie Galloway who runs a Bed and Breakfast and keeps her past to herself about her mother being in prison for killing someone while driving drunk. Nash Tremont shows up at the bed and breakfast to stay for a few weeks while he investigates his real father's wife. And his father's family. His half brothers. This is the part we won't know until the last book is written.
Fortune's Family Secrets by Karen Rose Smith Cassie Calloway owns a inn, Nash Tremont is staying at the inn. He is there to find out information about his family the Fortunes he is an undercover cop. I really enjoyed the interactions between Cassie and Nash. They slowly fall in love with each other. they both keep secrets that cause the other one pain but they work through them all and end up happily ever after. i really enjoyed the book and would recommend to anyone looking for a good book to read.
