He’s hunting me, and there’s nowhere to run.

East Berlin, 1963. I thought I understood the consequences of trying to flee to the West. Death. Imprisonment without trial. Instead I’m being hunted by the most dangerous man in the city, secret police officer Reinhardt Volker.

Now I’m his prize, no longer a traitorous factory girl but his elegant and pampered secretary. He wants

I just read this amazing book called THE LAST INNOCENT HOUR, which I've been trying to get all my friends to read. It's this amazing historical epic that takes place in Nazi Germany, which also has a love story in it - it's one of the darkest books I've ever read, but the characterization was so good, the narrative so taut, that I know it's going to be one of those books that stays with me for years. That also meant the Queen of All Book

It’s not me bashing the book, it’s me dwelling on the questionable moral of the story.

Fabulous writing. Excellent German language. The author did her research.

➳A romance filled with historical aspects that will have you drawn to the history behind the romance of the two characters...

➳Personally, I am not the biggest fan of historical romance... I used to be, however, my love for it stopped after reading OUTLANDER and after watching the show as well, my love for it decided to diminish all together. But let me tell you something, my admiration for historical romance has returned again after reading this masterpiece of a novel. One really cannot fall

Midnight Hunter is a historical tale of oppression, loss, hope and freedom. Set in East Berlin, Year 1963, Evony and a group of family and friends attempt to escape through the Berlin Wall into the West.

As dangerous as fleeing will be, nothing is as feared as the Midnight Hunter himself Reinhardt Volker, who is renowned for ‘smelling treason’.

A failed attempt sees Evony captured by Volker. Believing she will be incarcerated, she realises that she is destined for a fa

Such a gentlemanly monster.

This is a book that is very polarized right now, and because of that I am a bit uncomfortable reviewing it. There are a lot of “If you like this book you are a Nazi lover” comments being thrown around like confetti. And once upon a time I may have been one of such people, if I’m being entirely honest with myself. It’s probably that confession which makes me the most uncomfortable, to be honest.

Wow! I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. Recommended to me, I was excited until I realized it wasn’t a typical historical nor your standard contemporary. I’ve never been a fan of anything set in the 1900’s. Until now.

Evony along with a group of other residents of East Berlin are thwarted when they try to escape. Expecting to be sent to a prison for traitors where she will be tortured and tormented, she is shaken, scared and unsure when her captor, Reinhardt Volker – the Mid
I was in my 20s when the Berlin Wall came down. Like practically every other political science major in the 1980s, I read The Marx-Engels Reader. The Berlin Wall was in existence my entire life until it came down in 1989. I followed events about The Wall with mild interest since some of my family was from Germany and my grandfather was posted there directly after the end of World War II. I lived through the hard-line posturing by political leaders and witnessed the Olympics boycotts. A good frie ...more

Holy shit this was so good!!!!!
Thank you Fre06 Begum for the second great recommendation in a row!!! Seriously girl, maybe you should just pick out what I read from now on.

This book has given me something that I've given up on finding for awhile now: real suspense. Edge-of-my-seat suspense that had me second guessing everything. For the first time in a long ass time, I was worried the MC's weren't going to get a HEA even though I already knew they were.

The time setting and the location made me

Finally, I read Midnight Hunter too. WW1, WW2 and post-war era is not exactly period of time I usually read. It's depressing and even if the books are great 5 stars reads, they always leave a bitter taste. But with all the fuss about this book, I simply needed to know what the scandal is.

I shelved Midnight Hunter as a historical romance, so I rated it as a historical romance. I've read my fair share of historical romances in which heroes are often some kind of soldiers - Roman

"On these cold, unfriendly streets I found a flower, and I plucked it. I will have this one pleasure, this girl whose final surrender was that of a queen in battle."

I love historical romance especially ones that are about forbidden romances. I haven't read any books that are set in Germany when the Berlin wall was up, so this was a very interesting read to me. I wanted to see how Evony could fall in love with the 'enemy'. Secret police officer Reinhardt Volker is an anti-hero and the author did
A beautiful and unique romance story, I loved it.
This quote from the book : I have no regrets, Liebling. They can't take my love for you, even if they take my life.

Loved it!! I loved the characters and their story. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. This was my first book by Brianna Hale and I'm very impressed. It certainly will not be my last!

My only tiny disappointment was that this story was said to be a dark romance, and as a dark romance reader, I did not really see any of that in this book. But despite that, the story was still really good, just don't go in expecting anything dark.
Finally a 5 starred romance after a long drawn drought of good ones.

And I had the PERFECT playlist to accompany me, while reading der Mitternachtsjäger

4.5 stars!

I... feel like I shouldn't like this book. But, I do.
It was very well-written, and I admire the author for trying something different.
Volker was a true anti-hero, and I just love villains.

There were some things that bothered me (towards the ending), that's why it's not 5 stars, but overall, I enjoyed this a lot.

Oh my god i don’t even have words! I just finished Midnight Hunter and wow, just wow. It was such a unique story, so rich in history without being overbearing, or boring. I was at the edge of my seat thought 85% of this book!

Brianna, you know how to get a girls heart pumping! Your words and your story just AMAZING. I can’t even form complete sentences.

This is such a heart-warming love story with a different but unique and interesting story line. I adore both H and h. The sex scenes are hot but not overly explicit or disgusting. Midnight Hunter took me for a ride. Hot damn! I didn't expect anything while diving into this book. At first, I was really hesitant and I didn't know if I was going to end up liking it or not. However, I'm an idiot and should never go into a book thinking like that ever again. This book was so good! It was really hard to put it down because I was basically sitting on the edge of my seat

Loved this one!

“He plants a slow, tender kiss on the side of my neck and I feel my pulse thundering beneath his lips. It’s a kiss that belies the cold cruelty of his words and the steel of his embrace. It’s the kiss of a lover, soft and sensuous...”
Midnight Hunter was my first book by this author and will not be my last.
Things I love about this book:
1. Volker and his little touches.
2. Volker and the way he said Liebling.
3. Volker and his hot and cold demeanor.
4. Volker and his sweet side.

This is my first read by this author and I absolutely loved it.

Firstly I rarely read historical stories. They just ain’t my kinda read however this was an awesome read and I’m so glad I read it.

Evony is trying to escape from East Berlin in the early 1960s. She’s captured by a very dangerous man, Volker. What Volker wants he gets and in this case he wants Evony for himself so instead of sending her to prison he takes her home to his own prison.

This book was all kinda good. I really don’t want

OK, this was a different read for me and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised, lol and I truly enjoyed it. The beginning was well written in the historical fashion but for me I was just wanting to delve into their "relationship" part and yes, when it finally came into play, I liked it a lot! Great writing, storyline and characters. It was historical and erotic all in the same read!

This was a great read . I'm not entirely certain that I accurately tracked the German history, but I loved reading this book anyway.

Reinhardt and Evony were like Romeo and Juliet. Their love story is epic. I love that Evony is feisty and doesn't just give into Reinhardt. Reinhardt was surprising. I was expecting him to be cruel towards Evony. It was like now he is going to show his true colors, but it never happened. He was not as bad as he was made out to be. Except (view spoiler)
I was 10 when the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, and I remember that it was a huge deal. It was on the news all the time - images and video of men and women storming a graffiti-laden wall, standing on top of it, pulling others up to join them, chipping away at it with picks and hammers as guards stood by and just watched. My parents explained that it was a very big deal: the victory of the German people over an oppressive Communist regime. I, of course, was more interested in riding my bike and ...more
