Meglio rimanere solo. Niente più appuntamenti. Niente più innamoramenti. Niente più sogni sul lieto fine. Sono cose da film.

Resta fermo nella sua decision

Jingle Spell is a relatively angst free May-December Christmas romance between one MC who has given up on finding lasting romance (May) and one who has recently gotten out of a long term relationship (December).

Davey is a retail worker who hates his job, which is fair at the holidays, but I really wished he wasn’t such a bitch about it. There is plenty to hate about working retail without bugging his manager ad nauseum about time off and always being late. It made him seem too immature and hard

This is an okay Christmas read for those who like low angst and most sex happening off page.

There's a few mistakes in the editing which threw me out of the story a bit but not enough to ruin it. I'm expecting one more run before it goes live will catch all of those and it'll be a nice festive romance for someone looking for an easy and angst free read.

It's also got a new cover on the latest edition and it works well at capturing the age gap.

One more holiday novella. I liked this one, but it wasn't too memorable. A guy who is recently single (as in less than 24 hours) meets a guy who is recently out of a long-term relationship (not as recent though). They make a connection on an app and decide to make a go of it.
There is an instant kind of connection in this story. Not quite love, but a certain *something*. And they are both exactly what each other needs just when they need it
I would love to catch up with these guys to see how they

Cute, low angst. Avery and Davey meet in a menswear shop and then later connect over a hook up app. Their relationship happens quickly but a sweet fluffy read, just right for a Sunday morning.

A Joyfully Jay review.

This is a cute Christmas romance, but had some issues that reduced my enjoyment. Davey’s narration is patently abrupt, and made me feel as if he’s an immature character. Also, I was frustrated by the deeply-rooted Queen’s English. In a story of two “Americans” in New York, for me that’s just a non-starter. Avery is a gem who Davey would be sad to lose, for sure. And Davey is sad after a predictable tantrum about the ex. Again, Davey acting petulant and immature ma

A sweet holiday novella to warm you up.

Davey is newly single and having a horrible day. Late to work, customers being a pain and its the time of year he hates the most- Christmas. But a surprise meeting with a man who caught his eye during the day, may just turn his bah hum bug around.

Avery is new to the city and after "meeting" Davey at a store that day, when he finds him on a dating app, he decides to take a chance.

The chemistry is there from the start with Davey and Avery. But will Davey be a

This sweet, at times frantic (there is a heck of a lot going on in Davey's head) rollercoaster ride of a book was such an enjoyable ride. Despite several brushes with whiplash and two adorably weird MCs the author managed to skillfully guide these two together by the end. I really liked the ongoing monologue in Davey's head, though by having that as the single POV I didn't get to know Avery as well as I would have liked. Although, that also allowed the author to keep the suspence going till almo ...more

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Davey has not had an easy life and after he breaks away from his family he continues to struggle to get through life but at least he doesn’t have to rely on anyone. Avery is new to the city and looking for friends, their connection via a dating app helps to move them both in a new direction.

I felt bad for Davey, he continues to try and have relationships but they always end the same and he doesn’t see the point and keep it up. Avery shows him

Unexpected meetings turning into love are always perfect holiday reads. It's love wrapped in a Christmas bow!

Davey is a newly single guy. He doesn't seem to have the best luck in love and he's not a fan of his job. Avery is brand new to town. He visits Davey's shop earlier in the day and when they come "screen face to screen face" with each other on a dating site; you can't help but wonder if it's Christmas magic.

The book evolves from sad and lonely to sweet, happy, and lovely. Novellas are tric

First time reads from new authors are pretty iffy. Especially when you have to guess their writing style, their voice and your thoughts going in. But in interacting, I got to see a playful, and hilarious side of the author that came across in the words placed on the page.

He made Davey Grinch-like when a break up happened out of the blue. But then again, that seemed to be

Jingle Spell was the first book I read by this new to me author, Chris Ethan. I have to say I am a sucker for Christmas stories and the cover was too adorable to resist.

This is a very cute and simple novella, easy to read and light. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours before bedtime. Nothing complicated in the plot, just what I need in a holiday reading. Just two persons, Davey and Avery, who meet and find each other interesting, and later realize something more could happen with a future to
This is the first book I've read by Chris Ethan and I was immediately pulled in by the characters. The plot is fairly simple; love, lost love, found love, maybe lost love, HEA. But it's what the author did with it that made it so good.

You have a character who has come to distrust all the romance and joy of Christmas because he keeps looking for love and it isn't returned. Then a chance encounter at work garners him the interest of a newcomer to town. Some simply romantic dates and a personal con

Davey doesn’t hate Christmas time. It’s just not a great time for him. He is lying next to his boyfriend and catches him on Grindr, causing an early morning breakup. Now he has to deal with stupidity of the season at the mall while also dealing with a bitter boss. “He hated feeling like this, being so unlike himself, but he couldn’t help it. His soul was black and his mood was blue.” You feel for him. “All he wanted was a guy who could stay in a relationship with him for more than two months. It ...more

A Nice Novella- 3.5 stars

Jingle Spell is a short read that’s perfect to fit into your holiday reading schedule. For a novella, the characters are surprisingly well-developed. The dialogue moves the story along quickly, but gives all the details and chemistry you need to feel satisfied with this romance. The start was a little sullen but it set the stage for the changes within one of the main characters, so looking back, I like the approach. Considering the depth and emotion Chris Ethan managed t

Wow this book hit me between the eyes. My word. I've had several characters get to me because they've been through things I have, and I am drawn to Davey in the same way. He thoroughly breaks my heart. But he CLINGS to hope with all he is and this book we get to see what happens.

Davey's day is just one great thing after another. (Note of sarcasm). He found out the guy he is seeing is playing on the Grindr app and apparently dating other men. So needless to say that didn't end well. Plus it’s fre

Jingle Spell is a relatively quick holiday read that is a bit insta-lovey, with angst brought on by the characters’ own insecurities. There is some character growth for Davey, who seems to go from his highly cynical outlook on life and people towards a more balanced attitude the more time he spends with Avery…though Davey does appear to have low self esteem even near the end of the story—at least when it comes to relationships.

While when Davey and Avery first started seeing each other I felt tha

Jingle Spell is a cute holiday read with featuring two sweet men looking to find happiness. Davey hates Christmas, all the festivities, decorations, people all over the place and just all of it. It doesn’t help that he was just dumped. He meets Avery while at work one day and thanks to a dating ap, Avery has tracked him down. Davey is determined to not to give his heart away so easily, but sweet Avery works his way in quicker than Davey thought possible. The two start spending time toge

Jingle Spell is a sweet Christmas story. At first Davey comes across as shallow but as the story progressed and I got to know him I changed my mind. I love when that happens. Christmas can be a lonely time of year, especially for those not in relationships, and I thought the author captured the feelings of bitterness that often accompany that aloneness perfectly. Avery’s a nice guy, and I enjoyed seeing the two men’s relationship grow, although realistically they were both second guessing themse ...more

Just as Davey has decided that love is not worth the heartache, Avery enters his life. Will an online connection lead to more than just sex or was Davey right about love and heartache? Will the holiday season bring him a happy heart or is he destined to watch others find happiness?

Jingle Spell is a wonderful and amazing holiday romance that is full of hope and passion. There is never a shortage of happy romances this time of year so what makes Jingle stand out? Well, for me its the genuineness o

Davey, a sales clerk at a local resale store in New York City, is newly dumped, again, and is swearing off relationships for good, well, until Avery comes through his checkout line that is, but Avery just smiles shyly and runs off.

Social media brings them back together later, but Davey doesn’t put much stock into their first date going any further than sex. Not with his track record.

This was a quick and easy read. It’s pretty instalove, but it works pretty well for Avery and Davey. They
This is a delightfully charming story that I really enjoyed. Both Avery and Davey are likable characters and their courtship was sweet to watch. I only had two complaints, and I can't really call them that because they didn't completely detract from the reading experience. Avery experienced insta-love, and I sometimes couldn't determine if Davey truly liked Avery or just the thought of him. We learn very early that Davey is lonely, tired of random hook-ups and has had his heart broken several ti ...more
The story was the usual lonely-hearts Christmas edition you'd expect.
I rated the story so low because the characters, particularly Davey weren't very like-able. Davey is chronically late to work and puts in for time off too-late to get it, but he's bothered by how he's treated by co-workers and upset he doesn't get the time off. None of his relationships have worked but he really believes it's not his fault at all. All his internal thoughts about others (excluding his love interest) are negative

A very sweet Christmas story. The chemistry between Davey and Avery is clear from the beginning, and I rooted for them the entire time. Davey has a bad relationship track record and nearly swears off men. Until he meets Avery. Freshly moved into town, Avery brings out the best in Davey and gives him back the hope in a lasting relationship. The story is written from Davey's point of view, but Avery's input, especially at certain times, would have made the book even more engrossing.

All through it,

The story was a different take on a man who hates the holidays and all that comes with it. Davey, after having his boyfriend break up with him, isn't in the mood for the holidays. When Avery tracks him down through an app, he immediately tries to push the man away with his gruff exterior. When you learn that Davey is only trying to protect himself for what he considers inevitable hurt, you start to care more about him and what he's gone through, and you understand his doubt. A Christmas happy story

This is a beautiful story, just perfect for Christmas.
Avery and Davey meet over a till, in the shop Davey works at, a chance meeting on a day busy with Christmas shoppers, but when the opportunity for another meeting occurs, they both take it.
Davey is used to his relationships breaking up quite quickly, Avery has just left a long term boyfriend, but there is something in that initial attraction that keeps them making the effort to be with one another, and it's all worth it

A sweet, short holiday novella. A newly single younger man, Davey, catches the eye of a slightly older new to town man, Avery. They have a connection but neither are truly honest with each other from the beginning regarding past relationships. Very little angst but trouble does show up for Avery.
The book is a quick holiday read with a HEA.

Chris Ethan is a book whore.

He enjoys selling his feelings for money and other pleasures and is blatantly unashamed to do so for as long as he breathes.

Chris writes stories of gay romance.

Before you delve into his books however, be warned: He likes putting his characters through shit-storms and hates anything conventional.

Except for that darned happy-ever-after. He loves happy-ever-afters.
