Some secrets refuse to remain buried...

The winged messiahs who rule the district beyond the pearly gates have given humanity a choice: live outside with the threat of being warped by magic, or petition for entry at the cost of their free will. The deal sucks for others, but it's fine by Serenity Harker, because outside no one can discover her secret hunger. Outside, Sereni

A very promising first book.
A maybe too complex world building.
An interesting set of characters and a strong heroine.

Welcome to Midnight, when it's always night and the monsters make the law.

What a great book.

I was drawn into this world, it has just the right amount of intrigue to keep the reader guessing in a good way. I score Serenity, everything about her, her strength and the unconditional love she has for her sister.

Very good series so far.

New series alert

This was so good, it exceeded my expectations. The writing is absolutely terrific, the characters are awesome and i'm already half in love with all of them. I am invested in the mystery of Serenity. So happy that I don't have to wait months and months for the next book, it's already here!

Thank you Sharon J for recommending this series to me. This was an amazing read. The world was beautiful and intricate. The story was amazing, and got more and more interesting as the story continued. I loved the main character, Serenity. I loved that fact that she fights for what she believes in, and how bad-ass she is while fighting for those things. Also, I love the vulnerable side to her character as well. Also, I loved the guys. I wish I was Serenity, so that I could be around these guys. T ...more

A 5 star read except ... (minor spoiler)

Characters: interesting - I liked them and their personalities

Plot/setting: new and different

Writing style: pretty good

I liked all aspects of the story - the storyline, the characters, their relationships, etc.! All this equaled 5 Stars until the issue (spoiler alert) and I’m extremely pissed about it because I thought I found a new author to read! The book gets 3 stars because it’s good except for the issue which I almost automatically drop 2 points in
3 stars

While I can't say I loved this one, I am diving in because I am told it gets really good in later books. So we shall see!

The premise behind the story is stellar. The world-building is compelling. The male characters are intriguing and several of them are hot as hell (Bane!). The side characters are interesting. The dynamics between humans and nephs add great depth to the world. All in all, a lot of potential here!

So why am I not over-the-moon gaga for this series?

Because the MC, Serenity,

I think this book has the potential to bloossom into an awesome series or crash and burn... Good foundation, but I think the male characters are lacking a little thus far. I want more angst and challenges not just secrets that are kind of easy to guess at. Hopefully this gets rectified in the next couple books. Onto book two I go...
Serenity has been hiding the fact that she's not human ever since she appeared in Arcadia at the age of four, with no memories of where she came from and no way to get out. But now that there is a threat to humans at Sunset, her secret is in danger of being discovered.

I loved it, every single second of it! The working of the world fascinated me. A city with no way out of it? And the districts - Midnight, Dawn, Sunset. Clever and mysterious. And there were Nephilim! You should know that I love r

This was a geat read despite the number of typos, which are only annoying rather than devastating. The characters are well drawn and the build up of relationships rings true.

Can’t wait to get stuck into the next novel.

I love Urban Fantasy so much that I thought I had read most of the great series's out there. Then undiscovered RH and found a whole new obsession. Then I came across this book, which melded two of my favourite things together and the results are just awesome!

The main character is instantly relatable and likeable. She is tough and kick ass, but not entitled or whingy or arrogant. Her actions band reactions were believable and I was rooting for her the whole time.

And the men... Bane is my new favo
I think there's the kernel of a good book in here somewhere. The plot and characterization (and the writing in general, tbh) were just too uneven for me to really enjoy it, though. I almost quit reading halfway through because of the bad pacing and weird flip-flopping of Serenity's character.

Shelves: all-the-stars
While I enjoyed this book not much happened.
It was all about the world building, and that got a little overwhelming.
I do feel like I got to know all of the characters pretty well.
There were a few spelling errors but not enough to ruin it for me.
I will be reading the next book.

This is the first in a new series titled Chronicles of Midnight. Ms. Cassidy is a fairly new author to me, and I must say she is very fast becoming a favorite, and this book just highlights why. She writes exceptionally well, drawing the reader into the book very quickly. There is just something extra to the way she writes. Added to that is the uniqueness of the plot where there are three places where all the action is: Dawn, Sunset, and Midnight where each place is, you guessed it, dawn, sunset ...more

There is just something special about a good Urban Fantasy book. I absolutely loved Cassidy’s Protector of Midnight.

As I’ve stated in a review before, I’ve never really been a fan of the whole nephilim or angel genre but with a story like this one, what’s not to love?

Cassidy has created a unique world where nephilim, humans and monsters walk hand in hand, or really fight face to face. The world building is intricate but not confusing, and as events unfold throughout the book things will start to

This is such an interesting storyline by Debbie Cassidy and it kept me captivated throughout the entire book! The story revolves a new way of life, one of light and one of darkness. The story is about Serenity who fights for those unable to fight for themselves. Serenity is a great character, she is strong, short tempered, sassy but also so vulnerable. The beauty to the first book in this series is that it has great character development, we learn about everyone who will be highlighted in upcomi ...more

A great start to a new series!

This book was fast paced and packed with action from start to finish. There was a few spelling errors in the book. It's why I had to give this book 4 instead of 5 stars. Even though I really wanted to give it a 5. However, depite those errors the book was written well enough I was easily able to ignore it.
My only issue with this book is that it's eventually going to be a reverse harem. I don't mind that genre, but so many other books are doing it now, and the sto

I just happened upon this series and I have to say I am so happy for it! I freaking love this world that Debbie has created. Hooked me form the first chapter and I didn’t stop until I finished book two. It’s that good! The characters are so engaging and I found myself having to find out what will happen next.

The sunlight and Midnight regions are so different. Serenity lives in the sunlight and works as a cop for sunset. As the only line of defense against things that go bump in the night, they k
Protector of Midnight is a great book in a new series about a world where the angels might not be the good guys, and those who live in the dark might just be the real heroes.
Serenity lives in a world divided into three realms, Dawn, Sunset, and Midnight. While the angels live in Dawn and allow any who give up their free will to join them in paradise, Serenity lives in Sunset with her sister, and anything "other" lives in Midnight. The setting in this story is insane (in a good way). It was so in

I really enjoyed reading this book. This is the first book in this series, and also the first book I've read so far by this author, but it gave me a clear picture of the characters and their current circumstances in life.

There is a wide mix of supernatural creatures that reside in Midnight, and though Serenity has lived in Sunset since her adoption all of these years, and even gone so far as to deny herself the basic sustenance she craves to survive in a community of humans in Sunset so she cou

I received an early copy for an honest review. Debbie is one of those not so well known authors that you WISH you knew about. Her talent is outstanding and it is abundantly clear in all of her books. I absolutely LOVED this book. It was well written with remarkable details given throughout the story. I don't want to give any spoilers so I will keep my comment short and sweet. Serenity has a lot of self-conflict ( like a lot of people) but with great character development, she (for the most part) ...more

Another urban fantasy read that's so good huhu. It's action-packed, dystopian-ish in settings and a great start to the series. The heroine is so cool and as an older sister myself, I relate to her a lot. She's got this brooding, reckless when it comes to her own safety/good but is very thoughtful to the people she loves. And have I said she's so cool? *fangirl sigh* I'm not sure if this one's reverse harem but I think I really don't care if it's not. It is that good. The initial albeit minor con ...more

This book defies categorisation. It has some kink, some ménage, some family drama. It was a beautiful book, but you probably have to be slightly open minded in order to see it that way.

I loved all the characters in this book, wholeheartedly and I can say without reservation that I bawled my eyes out. I NEVER cry - not even for real life things, but this book made me have big fat tears rolling down my face.

It does have some difficult subjects tackled within the book, with rape, stalking and assau

Debbie Cassidy has a wonderful creative mind and has built a fantastic new world for us to explore as we follow Serenity’s journey as she struggles to find her way in Protector of Midnight. This is the first book in a new series and it includes exciting characters, great world-building and a fascinating storyline. It is definitely action packed, full of mystery and suspense and possibly a romantic interest. There is a lot of turmoil, unsettled feelings, tough decisions and secrets floating among ...more

What a great start to a new UF series! Great job Debbie Cassidy!
Once I started reading I couldn’t put the book down!
I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of UF, kick-ass heroins, RH and an action filled plot!
Serenity is a very relatable and likable kick-ass heroine who doesn’t need to be saved by anyone. She stands for what she believes is right and doesn’t let anyone tell her otherwise!
I really enjoyed this book and I can’t wait to find out what is going to happen to her and her teammate

Really one of the weirdest books I have read in a while. It’s kind of a mashup between disparate genres so it’s difficult to describe. Maybe something like Kate Daniels meets adult Shadowhunters...but there is also a dash of Angelfall and an undertone of Arthurian mythology? There might even be some faint resemblance to SyFy’s show Lost Girl? (A moment of silence for the cancellation of that wonderfully unappreciated series). The Lost Girl connection might be one of the few reasons I’m sticking ...more

Flat out awesomeness

Where has this series been all my life? Freaking incredible. I think it took one chapter for Serenity to have her claws in my heart. Always wanting to help others despite her own needs and feelings. She meets a team of intimidating nephs from the forbidden midnight realm and finds she has more in common with them than she originally thought... and will get the chance, one way or another to find out how.

I couldn't put it down

I loved this story. He storyline was fantastic and intriguing and if really grabbed my attention and kept it throughout the story. The characters were interesting and engaging, I'm hoping for more background on some of the characters, but otherwise a terrific book. I'm on tender hooks wanting to know more and I can't wait for the next book to come out in the series. Fans of urban fantasies will love this series.

I discovered Ms. Cassidy by reading a previous series and fell in love with her story telling genius. This newest adventure looks to be even better. Follow along with the main character, Serenity, and be swept up into a world of angels, nephilim, succubus and sirens, and all sorts of other creepy crawly inhabitants. Excellent world building. I am already invested in this series and intended to read the next book as soon as it comes out.
