I fell in love with the writing in this captivating novella. I was instantly intrigued with the two women, Alexa and Rosie. Told from each of their point of views, we are drawn into a story of manipulation and its path of destruction.

Character driven, we get a steady pace of how one friend weaves herself into others’ lives. Can anyone just put on a mask and create a persona? How far would someone be willing to go to keep their mask on? Appearance is only an outward measure and shouldn’t be used

WOW! This was a fabulous little read... my favorite type of read filled with unreliable narrators.... even better you have no idea from the start who is more unreliable... Who is manipulating who and who is lying! Cannot believe so much happened in only 92 Pages....Miss Leuschel this would make a brilliant full length book, just saying....

Not going to say anything about the plot, do not want to ruin this for anybody... so I am going to talk about the brilliant charac

5☆ A Raw Thought Provoking Read

My Sweet Friend is a thought provoking read about the power of friendship, manipulation and lies.
It's a wonderfully written short Novella that packs a punch in such a short read.

Alexa meets Rose when she starts working at her company.
Rose is infatuated with Alexa's charismatic personality and her confidence.
Alexa showers Rose with gifts and compliments buying into her friendship.... but to what cost!

However all is not what it seems.
Is Alexa really Rose's friend or

I have to say that this tiny little novella packs a pretty big punch.

The story revolves around Alexa, who has recently been hired by a Parisian PR firm, and her relationship between her two new co-workers Rosie & Jack.

Alexa is meticulous in her appearance and oozes sophistication and confidence. Rosie and Jack are immediately taken in by her charm.

Sometimes appearances aren't always what they seem. For some folks lying becomes a way of life. Sometimes good intentions are anything but.

92 pages of pure thrilling excitement.
Alexa and Rosie. Each tells they’re tale through their own interpretation, lies (maybe) and deceit.

The manipulation in this is next to none.

The characters were well rounded and stood out. Loathe them or hate them, you won’t put this down.

After reading H.A. Leuschel’s series of thrilling and thought-provoking short stories, Manipulated Lives, last year, I was eagerly looking forward to reading her latest novella, My Sweet Friend.

My Sweet Friend begins in the French seaside town of Biarritz. It’s Alexa’s story. She’s introduced an exhausted woman, complete with ‘dark shadows’ under her eyes, on the brink of a breakdown. Escaping to a place where no one knows her, I’m immediately fe

With skillful prose, Leuschel has written a novella that makes the reader both hate, and... feel a bit sorry for her protagonist.

"Behind the façade we were all human, fragile, and sensitive to judgement".

Alexa is an attractive woman working in a ruthless corporate world -  an account manager in the exciting city of Paris.  Impeccably groomed and dressed, she is highly practiced at making a good first impression, and manipulating events so that she will be seen in the best possible light. She fee

I think it’s safe to safe that among readers who are familiar with Leuschel’s work, the author has established herself with a particular theme. I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I see Leuschel’s new work, I immediately know what I am going to get, I have no hesitation about reading it eagerly, and I like that an author has managed to find a strong footing with me. Makes one happy reader!

I’m not a huge fan of novella’s if I’m honest and I’m going to state the obvious here and admit I find them too short! I like a book I can sink my teeth into, I like to immerse myself in the plot and it’s characters, but with a novella it’s difficult to fit such detail in to such a short read. Although every now and again I will pick one as I do feel they showcase an author’s writing so you can get a feel for their work. I read Manipulated Lies earlier this year, which I really enjoyed, so when ...more

H A Leuschel's novella "My Sweet Friend" reads like a psychological thriller that I enjoyed reading, found entertaining and I believe could easily be developed into a full length novel for which I would be very much interested in reading.
Told from the perspectives of both the main characters - Rosie and Alexa - in alternating chapters, we really get into the minds of these characters allowing you suspect for yourself exactly what is going on. With this being a novella and only focusing on a coup

I first came across H.A. Leuschel when I read and enjoyed her collection of short stories, Manipulated Lives ( my review here, http://bit.ly/2BxfSVz.)

In this novella the author has, once again, concentrated on the theme of manipulation; from the manoeuvrings for power in business to the exploitation that can be committed in personal relationships. This is an emotional exploration of the human psyche on various levels. It is also a brilliant story.

Told from the first person point of view of the t

I have thoroughly enjoyed “Manipulated Lives” by H.A. Leuschel so when her new book, “My Sweet Friend”, came out I was excited to be able to read it.

Leuschel has a wonderful way with words, her story flows and, before you now it, you’re hooked.

The story is told from two points of view, that of the victim and of the manipulator, moving seamlessly between past and present, yet the distinction is very clearly made and each chapter brings another piece into the puzzle. Leuschel did a wonderful job h

Who needs enemies with friends like this?

Deception, secrets, My Sweet Friend is an exploratory dive into the world of toxic friendships and manipulative people.

Alexa and Rosie hit it off almost as soon as they meet at the office on Alexa’s first day. She’s charming, and exactly the sort of friend Rosie needs to spice up her life. Or does she? When Rosie’s colleagues start picking up on her mistakes, and former friends are suddenly not so fond of her as before, one has to wonder… Just what exactl

After reading a collection of short stories by the same author earlier this year, I was looking forward to reading this novella, but I had a feeling that Manipulated Lives would be a hard act to follow.

My Sweet Friend is a deep, and slightly dark look into the dynamics of friendship and how people aren't necessarily what they seem. Manipulators are often clever, devious people who lie and do whatever is needed for their own ends. H.A. Leuschel once again hooked me by her subtly complex character

‘My Sweet Friend’ is a captivating novella drawing you into the lives of two women, Rosie and Alexa. Each from their perspective, they narrate a story of manipulation and intrigue…

Holy cow! Helene Leuschel has left me speechless once again! MY SWEET FRIEND is a quick novella but it sure does pack a heck of a punch! Alexa has a new high profile position and comes with an awesome resume, or so that's what everyone thinks! She quickly becomes friends with Rosie and life for the two of them seems perfect. They have lots of fun together, go out and spend lots of time with each other, but then things start to change. It's not long

Never have a read such a suspenseful and action-packed novella! It may only be 92 pages, but Leuschel left nothing out!!!!

This is an incredible look into a disturbed and manipulative female mind! Alexa appears perfect. She is the shining example of a high-powered executive. However, you know what many people say, appearances can be deceiving, and that is definitely the case with Alexa. She is beautiful, smart, and people take notice when she enters a room. Underneath, she is none of tho

I really enjoyed this story, it had me thinking afterwards about how much you really do know people.

The pace in the book was great, it is only a short read at 92 pages and I flew through the pages as I was hooked on the story, it certainly packs a lot in those pages and the writing style is superb and ideal for this genre.

I thought that the characters were great and they worked well to carry the story and give it a more added edge and I loved how it was

For “My Thoughts” I am going to start at the end of the book with the acknowledgements, a little odd but there is a reason for this. Helen refers to the research she had done into the consequences of lying. It is this that provides a premise for the story of “My Sweet Friend”.

We follow the two main characters in this novella. Alexis is just about to start her new job where she meets fellow employee Rosie. They become friends and in the alternating chapters between the two women we gradually lear

My Sweet Friend was a short read that packed a punch. It was very well written and full of emotion. It had a few surprises, and was an intriguing story told from the point of view of both sides of a toxic friendship.

I enjoyed the emotional side of the story. Often times we form friendships and never analyze them or think about the consequences of becoming friends with strangers or people who are sometimes shallow or selfish. This story touched on an all too sweet, gullible friend being used by a

My Sweet Friend is a novella that explores the nuances of a relationship, which starts professionally, but takes a personal turn as well.

Alexa is a newcomer to Rosie’s firm. She is good-looking, well dressed, oozes confidence and seems 100% organized, with a glowing CV and references - just what their firm needs, to help pick up their business. They quickly become friends, initially at the work-front, and then at a personal level too.

This is my second novella of the year and they have both blown me away. I should’ve known that with H.A. Leuschel that I was going to get a lot of depth in a smaller novel. She creates such amazing characters with such complicated personalities.

In this short novella, we're introduced to two women, Rosie and Alexa, who appear to be friends.  As each one tells her story, however, it becomes clear that one of them is not who she appears to be.  The interplay between the two is interesting as are their stories.  Right away, I wanted to know more about each of them.

My only problem with the book is that much of the drama is experienced second hand.  For example, I would have liked to see the scene where Rosie goes into Alexa's apartment and
