The Spiraling Star’s power grows as the Dark Month approaches. This is the time when rebellions come to fruition, ancient bloodlines are to be rediscovered, forgotten gods reawaken, and adversaries from beyond the stars watch for opportunity.
The world needs heroes...these are not them.
Magise Acreos, a sorcerer of a mercenary band who has lost control over his own chaotic sorcery.
The noble enchantress, Nirmala Firestarter, who wishes to break the limits of sigilism and ascend beyond her station.
And Lex Fellhand, a bounty hunter of a holy order on his first mission; to take down the head of a Spiraling Star Cult.
All three are inexorably drawn toward the village of Vesega, nearby which sits the infamous Tower of Gowstel. Within the tower, it is rumored that riches, lost knowledge and the means to achieving unstoppable power can be found. Many have tried to enter...all have failed... until now.
Adventurous action and kindled passions await within Sigil Hunters: Tower of Gowstel!
I am really not sure how I stumbled upon this book, but this e-book really got me through all of this holiday travel! Since I bought the book, the price has come down, but I am glad to have been introduced to the world the Merill has created. This book is a refreshing look at what fantasy could be. The characters are fun and totally relatable and the romance and action are well paced! A strong find for those interested in something totally different from the tired stories I've come to expect from big publishers.
I was particularly a fan of how well mixed the tension and comedy took turns cutting into eachother. It kept me guessing what was in store next for our beloved characters. In the post mortem, Merill mentions another installment of the Sigil Hunters series is underway, I for one can't wait to see what else Merill has in store for us!
Juvenile writing, inappropriate words for the style.
The cover art is a good indicator of the light romp intended by the author. For me however, it just falls short. I was never able to get into the story, despite reading it twice.
There is a measure of talent involved in writing any book as coherent and well put together as this. It just lacked the world-building skill and believable / compelling characters that I need.
