"Just for that, I shall hunt your firstborn and laugh with glee as I tell them of your death in terrible detail, with many unpleasant adjectives!”

You know how sometimes you realize you’ve read 500 pages and it was all fluff, nothing really stands out and you can't even remember most of it?

Well this book was the opposite.

So much happens, the characters are flawed but their growth is fascinating to watch. The story is complex and becomes more interesting as it progresses. Every time I thought I

THIS WAS AMAZING. I loved the characters, the world, the humor, the action. I'm excited to continue the series.

Even though I already had the book, I'm impressed a Brandon Sanderson book was in my November Fairyloot!! Click the link under the picture to see the goods. I think I left out a picture of one of the cards! sigh....

I had so many things I wanted to say for this review but I have nothing right now! I have cried sad and happy tears. I have loved many. Go read the damn book people!

It's Brandon Sanderson! What more needs to be said?

Happy Reading!

Skyward is the start of a brand-new YA Sci-Fi series by Brandon Sanderson. You all know that I love Brandon Sanderson’s work, especially The Stormlight Archive and Mistborn, and I knew I couldn’t let this new release pass me by without immediately reading. And, friends, this was nothing short of a treat.

4.5 stars.

Skyward is a fine example of a Young Adult novel. Once again, I'm in awe of Sanderson who shows he is still at the top of his game.

This novel is another hallmark of Sanderson's ability to spin the most incredible stories. He described the book as How to Train Your Dragon meets Top Gun and Enders Game. These references, however, would count for nothing if the

Okay, it's official, folks. Brandon Sanderson is a god.

He's not just a go-to guy for all things fantasy. I've read a few of his Cosmere SF stores but this is the first outright SF novel I've read from him and OMG he slams it out of the park. Or sky. :)

Let's put it this way. You remember how Armada should have been the glorious Last Starfighter? Let's just ignore that for a moment.

THIS is the quintessential Top Gun meets the Last Starfighter, complete with a girl pilot with a huge chip on her

Good news to the die-hard Mistborn fans like me and also The Stormlight Archive lovers (Seriously, I should stop procrastinating and start reading ASAP! It waits too long at my TBR purgatory!), we got the brand new, unique, exciting sci-fi series we’d dreamt of for so long. I honestly waited for second book’s release to start this journey and it finally came out.

The book started a little slow and it gave me idea that was long prologue before taking our first steps into journey and warms us

unpopular opinion, but this story sadly didnt feel like sanderson to me. and that could be for a variety of reasons:
- ive only read two other books by him, so i might not know him as an author yet.
- this is my first time reading a YA/sci-fi book of his, so maybe im just not used to it.
- this story feels like plenty of other books i have read before, some of which do this type of story better.
and i think its the last point that is really bothering me. even with my limited experience with

I mean, this is an author that can do no wrong in my eyes. When every book you read of his is a 5 star read, you reach for perfection and perfection is what you get with him.

I'm so damn happy we're getting a book release from him this year.

WOW! This was such an incredibly good book. I am super behind on the Brandon Sanderson train. So behind that this is the first book of his that I've ever read, it definitely will not be the last though. I fell in love with the plot, characters, and world building from the very first page and that almost never happens.

Skyward follows a young girl named Spensa (callsign: Spin), who desperately wants to follow in her father's footsteps and become a pilot. In Spensa's world, which

I really enjoyed this!

There were a few things that bothered me, such as the protagonist being a little annoying sometimes or the battles being repetitive at some points.
But overall I had a great time reading this and I'm looking forward to the sequel :)

When Spensa was a little girl she always dreamed about flying, seeing the stars, the sky.
Being free, even just for a moment.
Even though there were stones upon her path that nearly let her tumble and get lost, she still found a way to be upon the sky.

Brandon Sanderson shoots for the stars in Skyward, the first entry of his sci-fi adventure, and absolutely aces the takeoff.

Is there anything better than a new book release from your favourite author?

Ok, I have to admit though. I am not a huge fan of sci-fi books, and as such avoid them where possible. I will

My Opinion Time!

The first time I saw this book, I was captivated by the cover. It was so amazing and it looked eerie and mysterious. After that I also was curious about the book itself because the plot sounded good and something that I would probably love and it's science fiction! one of my favorite genres and I also heard many great

Okay, let me start off with this:
I live for Spensa.
I adore Spensa.
I look up to Spensa.

Since this book hasn't been officially released yet and I don't want to spoil anything, I'll be keeping this short. What I will say is that I would have given this 5 stars for Spensa alone. But throw a precious, sassy and funny sidekick, a band of awesome and

I'm definitely pleased that Sanderson is back to writing books I adore and surprising me. I certainly wasn't sure if the fantasy author I've read previously would be able to turn his hand so effectively to Sci fi but I am pleased to confirm he did it again.

This is the story of a human race who are clinging onto existence whilst under fire from an alien race called the Krell. Humans have fled Earth in ships many years ago, and they are conducting a kind of last stand battle with the Krell to be

Sanderson’s world-building is one of the most interesting aspects to the story. He ekes out information at a steady rate as to not overwhelm the reader with massive info dumps and maintains an air of mystery as to how the circumstances of Spin’s people came to be. Skyward has all the hallmarks of a Sanderson story: mysterious prologue, likeable protagonists, curious past civilizations, new technologies, and the looming threat of a warring race. I was often reminded of Mistborn’s ‘metal burning’ ...more

This book took me forever to get through not because I actively disliked it, but because it failed to motivate me to keep reading. The characters all felt rather flat and for as long as the book was, I still didn’t feel that connections between characters were fleshed out. I found myself not caring. In typical Sanderson fashion, the ending was engaging, but not enough to raise the star rating significantly. The ending did hint that the future novels in the series may be more exciting, so I’d be ...more

This wasn't bad by any means, but I did feel like there wasn't much happening until the final 25% of the book. A nice set up for the sequel, and as someone who isn't a regular reader of science fiction, I'm pleased to have been engaged enough by Sanderson to want to pick up the following book in the series.

Ok I don’t know where to begin: this was SO. GOOD. At times the description of space travel and flight movements was a bit confusing, but once you got it the story got GOOOOD. I love Spensa and I love the backstory that we learn at the very end because it seems like it could lead into a verrrrry interesting sequel. EXCITED!
