A short 5-chapter missive by John that covers how to know if you have eternal life, know God and abide in Him, and won't continue to practice sin (2:1, 2:5, 5:12-13). It speaks about the fruit of the children of God vs false prophets or unbelievers.

This book compares and contrasts believers behavior or fruit with that of unbelievers. It also compares those in God with those in the world. It does this by using many if/then statements. Chapter 1:6-10 compares those in light to those in darkness by what they do or believe. Chapter 3:4 says if you practice sin then you practice lawlessness. If someone denied that God's Son came in the flesh, then he is of the spirit of the antichrist and not of God (4:2-3). If you overcome the world, then you are born of God (5:4) and believe in God's Son (5:5).

This Epistle speaks about light vs darkness and how those who say they don't sin or walk in darkness don't know God. If you know God, you'll walk in light, not darkness. It also talks about Yeshua being a substitute for our sins, and advocate if we sin now. If we're with God, we won't practice sin but rather overcome the world and it's ways.

In 1 John, John also covers abiding in the Father and Son as the means of overcoming sin, the world and the evil one, and as the source of love for others. If we love one another, it's evident that we know God for God is love.

John calls sin lawlessness and illustrates how those who abide in God won't sin. The ability to abide comes from the Spirit (4:13) and God's love is perfected in us when we're one with Him (4:16). Also that by believing in God's Son, we have eternal life (5:13).

Many of the ideas in this Epistle agree with statements made in the gospel John wrote such as the idea that God guards us and keeps the evil one from us (John 17, 1 John 5:18).

Words from the book of I John:

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Bless the name of Jesus!

Testifying to the Deity of Jesus Christ.
"I AM the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die." Jesus the Christ

"There are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books which were written" .

The purpose of 1 John is stated at the end of the letter: "These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may KNOW you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13).

The summary of 1 John is that it's a letter encouraging believers to have genuine fellowship with God through Jesus Christ and to live a transformed life of love, obedience, and truth. It was written to combat false teachers who denied Jesus' identity and emphasizes that true faith is evidenced by a consistent life of love for others and obedience to God's commands. The letter provides tests for discerning truth and reassures believers of their identity in God, encouraging them to confess sin and to have confidence in prayer.
