Five years ago, I escaped a dangerous life I had always wanted to leave. I got away. I found freedom. But it cost me the love of my life.
For five years I lived in hiding, protecting my most valuable secret while Sayer Wesley sat in prison paying for both our sins. I promised to love him forever. I promised to never leave him.
I broke my promises.

READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG

Before you read this review: Please note that this is book 2 in a duet. I usually keep my reviews as spoiler-free as possible but please don't read on if you haven't finished book 1 yet.
Consequence starts right where Constant ended. There is a consistency in the pattern we get switching between present and past - this time the past is told from Sayer's point of view, which helped to understand the kind of people Sayer and Caro are.

Consequence
was a different type of story than the first part. It was high in intensity and had far much more action than
Constant.
There was much more mafia involvement as the characters tried to navigate their way to survival. Who do they trust? And will their con work?

As I read Consequence, the sequel to Constant, I kept thinking of a yo yo: the actions would spin forward, but then just as quickly slam to a halt, leaving us dangling, just short of any destination, with us readers wondering "What was that all about?" The plot was all over the place.
Towards the middle and end of the story, the image of daisies came to mind: you know: she loves him, she loves him not.... I lost track of how many times Caro kept falling back into her old familiar hang ups and ins ...more

I’m not normally drawn to mobster-type stories but CONSTANT got under my skin and pulled me in, so I was ready to read the completion in CONSEQUENCE. This is a fast-paced culmination, picking up from the abrupt ending of CONSTANT and diving into the distraught emotions of Sayer and Caroline.

Dramatic, suspenseful, and romantic in a way that I was completely unprepared for - Consequence, the second book in Rachel Higginson's The Confidence Game series, is some kind of crazy wild ride from which I'm still catching my breath! I was on the edge of my seat for much of this story, the twists and turns kept my head spinning and my heart beating rapidly while the truth was slowly uncovered and Caroline and Sayer's story reached it's sort of epic conclusion.

“Caroline was mine. She would always be mine. But more importantly, I was hers.”
I was so damn excited to get my hands on the epic conclusion to Sayer and Caroline’s hard-fought and exhilarating love story. It had to be tough following the first book in the duet, but Rachel did it and she did it REALLY WELL! I relished the thought of immediately diving in and getting sucked back into this world of thieves, liars, and criminals. I was excited to get back to Sayer, Caro, and the rest of the gan ...more

"This man made me stupid. He was every bad decision and hasty regret. He was all my wrong choices and abandoned dreams."
'Consequence' is the followup to 'Constant' and picks up after that helluva cliffhanger that left us all with our jaws on the ground and eager to get our hands on this book.

I absolutely loved the first book. However, this one I wasn’t so keen on. That’s my opinion, I’m sure others will think it’s awesome, so don’t let it put you off.
Sayer and Caro are a steaming hot couple. They have some amazing scenes together. But I found myself questioning two things;
A) my four year old daughter had been kidnapped, would I be getting all passionate with my ex in his vehicle?
B) If my four year old daughter had just been returned to me, she’s asleep in the bedroom. My friends are ...more

I voluntarily received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Where I loved the flashbacks in book 1, they weren’t as seamless and didn’t flow as smoothly in book 2. The story also bogs down and is always stuck in Caro’s head, which was frustrating. Caro went from a character I loved to someone I was ready to be done with. I was much like Atticus at the end of the story; I didn’t understand her appeal. I still don’t.

Consequences. The word in itself has a very negative connotation to it. Facing the consequences sounds quite forbearing and that something unpleasant or unwelcome is coming. I've been carrying this feeling around with me since the end of Constant when Rachel left me sitting out on the edge of that very high cliff.

OH MY GOD! I thought Constant was amazing, I mean like 6 star worthy. Consequence just straight up blew my mind! I mean I'm talking like 7 stars. I'm so grateful Rachel Higginson wrote this duet because Sayer and Caroline wouldn't stop talking to her.
Not only is their story wrapped up, but you get dual points of view so you learn what really happened in the past from Sayer and you see what's happening in the present from Caroline. Let me tell you, this was a game changer because Sayer is nothing ...more

Sexy, intense, great ending to a love story...
What a perfect ending to Sayer and Caroline love story. Consequence picked up where Caroline’s daughter disappeared into thin air. Sayer found out he has a daughter all along and did not even had a chance to spend time with her. With Sayer’s dangerous past, will he ever be free? Consequence picks up right where Constant leaves off, after the big cliffhanger. So, if you haven't read book 1, do not attempt to read book 2.
The positive...
I love Rachel Higginson's writing style. She writes in a way that you feel everything. She includes all the little details, that can be easily forgotten, but are so integral to the character development.
Unfortunately, Consequence fell short for me. It's a dual POV, but I found Caro's side a little lacking. I really liked her in book #1, but ...more

At the end of Constant, readers are left wondering what will happen to Juliet? Can Sayer and Caro get her back before it is too late? Thus begins a journey that will take these former childhood sweethearts into the abyss that threatens to swallow them whole.

Consequence picks up right where Constant left off – thankfully. If you’ve read Constant, then you already know that it leaves you wanting, no, scratch that, needing more. I was more than a little eager to get back into Caro and Sayer’s story.

Consequence is the conclusion the The Confidence Game Duet. I would categorize this series as romantic suspense. It is necessary to read book 1, Constant first as it is a continuing story.
Caroline was the only narrator for book one. However, in Consequence we also get some of Sayer's POV.
