Two Canadian sisters inherit beachfront property in Mexico and take off on an adventure to claim their inheritance. They travel opulently by cruise ship to Ensenada and survive a rocky trip through Baja California, only to be shocked when they arrive in San Felipe. Their beachfront property is, indeed, on the beach, but the “structure” is a cement slab and the Airstream trailer their uncle parked on the property in the early 1960s! With the help of a few locals, the Canadian cuties figure out what to do with their less-than-desirable legacy. The true gift, they find, is that they are reconnected as sisters and discover that everything that happened along the way was part of God’s plan.
Say Olé the Sisterchick Way !
SISTERCHICK TM n. : a friend who shares the deepest wonders of your heart, loves you like a sister, and provides a reality check when you’re being a brat.
Canadian sisters Melanie and Joanne are stunned to hear they’ve inherited their uncle’s beachfront summerhouse in Mexico. With a snap, a trip is They’ll travel opulently by cruise ship to Ensenada, zip over to San Felipe, sign a few papers at the bank, and the tropical hideaway will be theirs.
What they don’t expect is a spa treatment gone loco, snails and cactus on their dinner plates, risky ocean dips, a cross-country desert drive, a dishy doctor, or a Federale who doesn’t speak English! Fortunately, some problems really can be solved with coconut cake and, if necessary, a water fight. The beachfront property—and what it takes to get them there—becomes a gift beyond their wildest wishes as these Sisterchicks relinquish themselves to the dreams God has for them...all under the sombrero of His grace.
Story Behind the Book
A year ago in July, an associate from my publishing house walked up to my friend and I and said, “You need to go on a cruise.” She grinned and told us that she had a cruise package she couldn’t use and it would be her delight to see my editor and me go to Mexico on a Sisterchick adventure. After we got over the shock, we gratefully made arrangements to go cruisin’ in December. What a time we had! Was it research or was it recharging of our creative efforts? Both! The result is the third Sisterchicks novel, Sisterchicks in Sombreros ! I love it when God does His God things. His eye is on the sparrow, or in this case, Robin and her Sisterchick friend!
ROBIN JONES GUNN has written more than 100 books with over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide. Her Father Christmas books have been made into three Hallmark Christmas movies. The timeless Christy Miller series now continues in Christy & Todd: The College Years, Married Years, Baby Years, and the Haven Maker series. Robin's novels and non-fiction works include Before Your Tween Daughter Becomes a Woman, Victim of Grace, Praying for Your Future Husband, and Before You Meet Your Future Husband co-authored with Tricia Goyer. Her books have received multiple awards and are a favorite with book clubs and study groups. Many of Robin's books are in eBook, audiobook, large print, and foreign editions. Robin does a weekly Podcast called "Women Worth Knowing" with Cheryl Brodersen. Robin and her husband have a grown son and daughter and live in California.
This book changed my life. I love all the others too, but this is probably my favorite because of the positive influence it has had. I think about it frequently to make sure I'm staying on track.
The story is about two sisters who inherit a piece of beach front property in Mexico and travel by cruise ship to check it out. The book was a little hard to get into at first. But boy, did it pack a message of faith and trust in God and how we "plan" our lives. Parts made me lol as to how close to home the author portrayed sisters and their interactions as adults. The message I take with me from the book--"I don't want to get in the way or hinder You from fulfilling any of the plans You had for me when you dreamed me into being." This is a fun, entertaining read with a message that runs deep. If you have a sister you will enjoy the exchange these two share in this adventure.
This is at least my second or third time reading this book. It wasn't my favorite of the Sisterchicks stories when I first read it. This time I appreciate the message it provides. Joanne has developed a deep and personal relationship with God. Melanie is all about control but she learns on this trip to let go and let God. God has a plan for us His creations. We have our own dreams and plans, but sometimes the best times come when we relax our hold on the reins.
Sisters Melanie and Joanne, (each 40-ish years of age), go on a crazy journey to Mexico to claim some beachfront property!
Sisterchicks in Sombreros by Robin Jones Gunn was a nice read. I had a few laughs, and there were some truly heartfelt moments. Though it definitely wouldn't be my first pick, it was a fun journey overall.
"Canadian sisters Melanie and Joanne are stunned to hear they've inherited their uncle's beachfront summerhouse in Mexico. With a snap, a trip is planned: They'll travel opulently by cruise ship to Ensenada, zip over to San Felipe, sign a few papers at the bank, and the tropical hideaway will be theirs." (from the back cover) What an adventure this was!!🤩 I enjoyed every minute of this book- whether it was adverse effects of a spa treatment, spending the night in a native couple's house, or getting to know God in a closer, more intimate way. 10🌟
Probably my least favorite of the Sisterchicks books. Reminded me of the cruise to Mexico that Rosa and I took years ago - minus an allergic reaction to my first massage. Favorite quote was from Augustine: "I came to love you late. O Beauty so ancient and new; I came to love you later. You were within me and I was outside where I rushed about wildly searching for you like some monster loose in your beautiful world. You were with me, but I was nt with you. You called me, you shouted to me. You broke past my deafness. you bathed me in your light, you wrapped me in your splendor, you sent my blindess reeling. You gave out such a delightful fragrance, and I drew it n and came breathing hard after you. I tasted, and it made me hunger and thirst; you touched me, and I burned to know your peace."
I have read several Sisterchick books but this is by far the best one.Real blood sisters getting to know each other better and one bringing the other to a personal relationship with God. Enjoyed the book will look for more in the series.
I have to appreciate that in this book of the series it was the main character who was doubtful of needing God full time. Mel is a busy mom that like organization and control. I felt connected to her. Then when she and her sister find out that they’ve inherited their uncles beach front property, she has to relinquish. God intervenes in Joana and Melanie’s travel plans more than once and gives the sisters the opportunity to rely fully on him. Joana brings light to how wonderful a personal relationship with God is once you allow yourself to be fully immersed.
Two sisters find out they have inherited property in Mexico. Oh, the adventure they had!
The older sister had a very deep relationship with Jesus, while the younger sister was a planner and organizer. Both sisters cared very much for each other.
We in America do not realize how some people in other countries live. It is good to see this in print.
I have 3 sisters and this book was so interesting to me. I am enjoying the Sisterchicks Books so much!
This time two sisters experience the contrasting lives of luxury cruising and Mexican small-town living. It is an everything-that-can-go-wrong-will-go-wrong book, so I didn’t end it with the same wanderlust as usual, but it does have some wonderful moments.
Another great message about God’s desire to have a close relationship with us and the dreams He has planned for our lives. Suitable for all readers. Expect lots of good use of scripture and lots of the two main characters just talking.
Fun book. Join siblings Melanie and Joann as they take an unexpected cruise to Mexico. After finding out their late Uncle named them as beneficiaries to his beachfront property they go to check it out. Sharing a ride with a stuffed marlin is just one of their adventures. Jump in and join in the fun. Quick read
A great read as always. Not my favorite, but still good. I could relate some to the characters. I wouldn't have handled the crazy in the story as well as the characters though. I did appreciate the theme of gratefulness. I wouldn't reread it or own it but I would recommend it. Especially if you already like the author and are midlife.
I really enjoyed the first two books in this series. This book; however, was really just boring. Oddly, it didn't feel right that the main characters were actually sisters. I think I'll put this series on hold for now.
This is a light wholesome easy read book. It came at a perfect time for me as it was very different from the last few books I have read, changed things up for me a little bit. I listened to the audio version read by the author. She did a good job.
This was my least favorite of the first three sisterchick novels largely because the author didn't place much emphasis on the location at all. I learned nothing new about Mexico. She didn't peak my interest about Mexico. The story could have literally happened anywhere.
I didn't like this as much as the other ones. The one sister doubted God most of the time and was annoyed by her sister that pushed so hard for her to follow God's plan. Used to both characters following what God's plan is.
I love the Sisterchick books! If you’re looking for something light to read that reminds you to return to the Creator who made you, these are great books. The plot isn’t complex and they are pretty predictable, but sometimes that’s just what you need!
Third book in the Sisterchicks series. I loved these books for the light read, the feel good vibes, the friendships, and the vacations. Just a nice way to be transported somewhere else without much drama.
I love all of this series but this one was very funny and sweet with it being about sisters. If you need something light and fun that is still thought provoking and edifying then this is the book for you!
Another wonderful Sisterchick book. Each one is so colorful, heartfelt, and adventurous. And, so realistic that sometimes I wonder if the characters and adventures didn’t really happen. On to Book #4.
I felt whisked away in to a land I never knew I needed. This was soooo fun, thought provoking, laugh inducing and an all around a jewel. After this book I have tried so many of this authors other works but none came close to the love I have for this one. ❤️
Overly sweet tale about two sisters. Not much depth. But uplifting and delightful characters with the ending you want. Takes place partially on a cruise ship - I chose it for my light cruise ship reading.
I loved this one! I loved how lovely their inheritance was and the surprise that awaited them. I laughed cried and had all the feels. It's a fun quick read.
