Alainn and Killian fight to keep their loving, passionate relationship alive. But as Alainn delves deeper into her magical abilities, she uncovers a demon, a coven of wrathful witches, and a past lover...all intent on keeping her and Killian apart.
A Witch's Life is set in sixteenth century Ireland, an undoubtedly enticing and mystical time and place, yet wrought with misfortune and upheaval. In this fascinating tale of undying love and enchanting fantasy, Alainn and Killian encounter numerous benevolent spirits and vengeful, dark supernatural entities.
I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!
This novel continues Alainn and Killian's story. Both are suffering from the tragic loss of their son. Alainn blames herself and distances herself from Killian. Alainn believes Killian's former lover who is currently staying at the castle had something to do with harming their son. Alainn will not return until Killian has her removed. Alainn senses get evil from this woman. Killian loves Alainn and gives her the space she needs. However, he realizes they are both hurt by this and they need to overcome it together. You see the characters fight, argue, and love. Their love is strong and it will need to be that way to face the demon that torments Alainn and other supernatural creatures. Alainn is developing her magical abilities and is afraid to conceive another child, which greatly upsets Killian. Alainn and Killian are both jealous people, Alainn jealous of his former lovers and Killian of how the men look at his wife. This are issues they need to overcome, which is challenging for them. When Killian agrees to go to England to see the king, he takes Alainn with him, fearful of what could happen if she is left alone. The king plays his own games with the Irish, which causes frustration among them, but they do not wish to anger the king for he could easily see them arrested and hanged. However, when Killian refuses to do something for the king, Alainn will do anything to save him, but Killian wants her to stay safe. However, both are stubborn and what price will be paid to save the one you love?
I've much enjoyed this series. I wish the last two books were not cliff hangers but I'm too far in to the series to give up. I'm hoping they will finally get their happily ever after
I didn't not expect it to be any less amazing then what it was! Another thrilling extension to Alaine and Killian's story. Wonderful cannot wait to read on!
Good Magical romance, with suspense, heartache, humor, overall good world building, action and adventure. Keeps main characters throughout the entire series and introduces some new ones has well. Very well made fantasy with mystical creatures
I loved the book, even though it is the fifth book in the series, it was easy to understand and follow. I will have to now read the others. All the magical elements are fantastic in the story.
An addictive witchy tale teeming with Celtic mythology and magical elements.
“I am presently most displeased with the entire male gender and sure it would take little inducement on your part to cause me to use this weapon to lop off your head this night. So be gone with you, for I don’t care to be in your company! You cause me great suspicion!” “I cause you suspicion? You’re the one doin’ the whole Lizzie Borden routine!”
A Witch’s Life is the fifth installment in Leigh Ann Edwards’ bewitching Irish Witch series and continues Alainn’s and Killian’s story. The Irish Witch series is a magical romantic paranormal fantasy set in sixteenth century Ireland/England featuring witches, a swoony hero and evil forces! The primary characters’ epic love story is for the ages. This book picks up right where the prior book, A Chieftain’s Wife, ended.
I cannot imagine jumping into this series at any point other than the beginning. The characters, romance and the danger element have been chronologically evolving since the first book. So, please do yourself a favor, and read this series in order. The good news is that the storyline and characters are utterly addictive and greatly entertaining. My advice is to grab them all and binge on them through a cold or rainy weekend. If you dislike cliffhanger endings, wait until mid-2018 when the last book is near release to start your book orgy!
As this segment opens, it’s 1537 and Alainn and Killian are still each reeling from the tragic loss of their son. They are dealing with their marital issues and have re-united after being torn asunder at the end of the last book. Alain senses evil from Killain’s former lover and steadfastly believes that she was a player in their newborn’s demise while Killain does not want to evict her from their abode without proof of her treachery. Alainn does not want to become pregnant again which hurts Killain, who needs a heir and wants to have a child with her. All the while, the demon is still stalking Alainn. As if these matters are not enough to deal with, Killian – because he is an influential Irish chieftain - is needed in London. Killain does not want to be apart from Alainn. Against his better judgment, Killain makes the decision to take Alainn with him, making her promise not to use witchcraft while there. At this point, Irish/English sixteenth century political instability figures prominently. Alainn’s and Killain’s love is strong and their chemistry is sizzling. They are also both extremely stubborn. Will their love prevail over the hardships and adversities that wreak havoc with their lives?
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from A Witch’s Life:
“We cannot permit ourselves to live our lives in fear of what may happen or we’d not care to leave our beds each day. Though at the moment that would suit me entirely fine!” he chuckled and held her close. --- “I love you, Killian O’Brien. Every inch of you from your thick brown hair to your large warrior’s feet, and a good many inches in between.” --- “Are you awake then, Lainna?” he whispered gently against her ear. “Aye, well, if I wasn’t already awake I soon would be with you pokin’ me with your diddler!”
One of my favorite scenes involved a challenge. I can’t wait to see it played! “I have shared physical relations with other women, but, I have only made love to one woman, Lainna. For ‘tis truth you are the only woman I have made love to. Now that I know what it is to be with a woman I love more than life, I would not trade that for beddin’ a hundred women a day. I am your man, Alainn. Only yours!” “You have not loved me twelve times in one day?” she pouted prettily. “Is that a challenge?” He smiled as he walked toward her and dared to bend over to kiss her. “Aye, perhaps it is at that!”
As with the prior books, A Witch’s Life ends with a cliffhanger – though, thankfully, it doesn’t feel as cruel as the closing of the prior book as I’ve not lost sleep over this latest one. Have I mentioned how much I detest cliffhangers? That said, I must be a glutton for punishment for I’m thoroughly enjoying this series. I can’t seem to get enough of well-written witchy tales teeming with Celtic mythology and magical elements. I just wish the next books would come quickly and am hoping, hoping, hoping that Alainn and Killian will find their HEA when all is said and done.
This is the fifth book in the series by this talented author. The book picks up in the life of Alainn and a Killian and the struggles to find each other again in the sorrow and heartbreak they both feel in the loss of their son. The road back together is often difficult with many challenges as it is in anyone’s world who has had such a loss. The writer shows us through her words the way both Alainn and Killian work with each other to find the love that they share. This book shows us more of both characters flaws and how each one accepts the other. I have read all of the books in this series and love how the characters have grown so much, it makes you have to remind yourself this is a young couple dealing with not so typical issues. This instalment of The Irish Witch series will leave you laughing out loud at times and sobbing at others while being welcomed back into Ireland and Alainn and Killian world. I’m looking forward to the next instalment !
A Witch's Life is book 5 of the Irish Witch series by Leigh Ann Edwards. Alain is now a married grown woman who has endure hardship and sorrow. Much of this story deals with that, along with the martial problems that Alainn and Killian have. The sixteenth century Irish/English political instability do nothing to help these two.
While I enjoyed A Witch's Life, which is aptly named since the reader is shown several aspects of Alainn’s life, not just her marriage, it did not tie together as well as the others. There were events, one in particular that did not seem to be necessary to the story.
Like the books before this, it has the same main characters, so they chronologically follow each other. Ms. Edwards tries to give the backstory when it is necessary. However, it is my recommendation that the books be read in order to enhance the understanding as well as the enjoyment of this book. The story also ends with a major wait-and-see cliffhanger. I am interested in what happens next.
4.5 Stars An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley.
A Witch´s Life by Leigh Ann Edwards is a story I have waited a long time for. I wanted to read more about Alainn and Killian and their new life together as man and wife. It´s a nice story if you like fantasy and mystery. A Witch's Life is set in sixteenth century Ireland and is filled with fairies and magic. So if you like that, and a lot of romance, then you will be happy that you picked up this book. It´s part of "The Irish Witch Series" and this is book 5.
Ms. Edwards provides excellent character development. While I'm not always certain where the story is going, I am always intrigued that the characters are real, and true to who they are. She also offers intriguing glances into what's possible.
In this story, Alainn works through her grief, which is definitely felt by the reader. As I knew her in the previous books, her character grows and changes as one must following the death of a child. At the same time, Killian is working through his own grief and wants desperately to heal his wife. The story is real.
Danhoul is the wild card in the story. We have glimpses of who he is, but it almost feels like he's a secret agent of the gods. And that makes the story exciting.
I'm looking forward to the next story in the series.
Alainn and Killian fight to keep their loving, passionate relationship alive. But as Alainn delves deeper into her magical abilities, she uncovers a demon, a coven of wrathful witches, and a past lover…all intent on keeping her and Killian apart. This was a good story, but I didn’t know when I started it that it was the 5th in a series and they should all be read in order. Because of that, I was a bit lost. However, the characters were well written, and displayed very human traits, which I liked. I would like to go back and read the entire series. I recommend. **I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Not as well written as the other books in the series, in fact, I almost stopped reading it several times. It was OK, but not a book I want to recommend. In fact, you can finish the series with book 4 without missing anything of importance. I think I may buy and try book 6 but will sleep on it tonight before deciding.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
A Witch's Life is the latest installment in the Irish Witch series. This book centers on a few concepts from the prior books - Alainn and Killian dealing with the aftermath of the loss of their newborn son, Alainn trying to cope with Killian's betrayal with Ciara, and Alainn using her powers to battle gods and other fantastical creatures out to get her and those closest to her. I've only read the first two books in the series and found this one was only marginally better than the other two. Alainn and Killian both came across as gullible, sex crazed characters in this one. Alainn was too forgiving. Killian was a major masochistic jerk in this one. There was a bit more magic and fantasy, but the approach taken to these aspects of the book didn't seem to fit with the rest of the book. It was a strange hybrid of fantasy and historical fiction that just didn't mesh well which, for me, made the flow a bit awkward.
This was a much better book than the last. The trauma and emotions felt so deep and you really feel for the young couple. They’ve been through the absolute wringer but still love each other so much. I enjoyed the take of King Henry the VIII’s London and England as it’s pretty much how I imagine it. On to the next book.
Favourite quotes include: Could it truly be considered a place to spend eternity a beautiful beyond... a heaven, without such ardent physical love?”
“Aye, well, if I wasn’t already awake I soon would be with you pokin’ me with your diddler!”
I received this ebook from library thing for a honest review. This is the 5th book in this series and being as I have not read the first 4 I was way lost. with that being said it was a good read. Not something I am use to reading because it is written in a different century and also in English terms and wordings. It is a love story between a witch and a chaiflin. They are trying to work through the loss of their newborn son along with him having dealings with England and their king. the ending will leave you hanging and begging for the next book.
I voluntarily read a advanced reader's copy of this book
The Witch's Life by Leigh Ann Edwards. This book is book five in the Irish Witch series. This isn't my usual type of book and I haven't read the other books in the series but decided to give it a try. It just wasn't for me. If you enjoy fantasy and mystery this book is for you. I would start at the beginning of the series with The Farrier's Daughter.
These books are captivating, I couldn't put them down. There had all the magical creatures of myths, plus the good fighting the evil demon's. Lots of passionate loving, but the the 2 who have this great love are often so jealous, in my own experience if you truly love someone, you trust them totally. The only thing I didn't like, is the cliffhangers at the end of each book, I just hope these finish properly in the last book of the series.
A Witch's Life is the 5th book in the series of the Irish Witch Series. This is the first book in the series that I read which makes it a hard read for me. This is no way implies that Leigh Ann Edwards is not a good story teller, she is. We are shown the main character Alainn's life, good and bad. I would definately suggest to read this series in order. I received this book from Librarything readers giveaway for an honest review.
I received a copy of A Witch's Life by Leigh Ann Edwards from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was intrigued by the summary and really wanted to like this novel, but the storyline could have been pulled together better and the characters developed better.
Part Fantasy, part steamy romance, Thalgor's Witch brings a story that will keep you turning the page well into the night. With a wonderful cast of intense characters. this is a great book for those looking for a change of pace from strictly romance. Loved it!!!
