A twenty-one-day challenge is all it takes to get on the path of reversing diabetesSounds unbelievable? It's true.Based on her revolutionary diabetes reversal programme, Dr Nandita Shah, renowned homeopath and founder-director of SHARAN, elaborately breaks down the real cause of diabetes using scientific evidence and intelligently outlines a routine that will not just prevent the disease but also reverse it.By addressing the cause of insulin resistance and lack of insulin, Reversing Diabetes in 21 Days provides a fresh and practical perspective on how to cure diabetes. This book carefully takes into account the Indian context, customs, tastes and thought processes to tailor the best possible step-by-step guide that an average Indian can follow.Interspersed with testimonials, stories and real-life experiences of past participants, this book will show you that type 2 diabetes and many cases of type 1 diabetes are indeed reversible!
Dr. Nandita Shah claims that with a vegan diet made from organic produce, it is possible to get rid of not only diabetes but also lifestyle diseases like high cholesterol and avoid kidney, liver diseases. That is the key idea of this book. While I already avoid processed food, have cut down on sugar and caffeine a lot, and follow the rule of early and sufficient sleep and regular exercise, as a (vegetarian) foodie I will not be switching over to veganism as of now. For me, the recent focus on consulting with a dietician has been to make sure each meal has sufficient proteins and a little amount of fat as well. And I will be sticking to that for now. But, for me the key takeaway from this book is to minimise cooking oil, and switch to organic products as much as possible. P.S.:- If you are interested in the idea, the author has provided recipes and a lot of tools to help you with a smooth transition.
Most of the information and Recipes in this book is already available on the author's website 'Sharan'. Though the scientific evidence presented and the lifestyle changes recommended are very useful, it takes three chapters to get to the main content. Better to check out the website than buy the book.
Dr. Nanditha Shah has also added in some of her vegan views, she also has a very useful diabetic friendly recipe site(Low GI Food) which I regularly use which is a companion site for the book.
Diabetes is exploding worldwide. Many of the health books on the subject indicate that it is a lifestyle disease (especially Type 2) which can be reversed. This is one such, providing good information of how you can cope.
Most of the recent literature has laid the blame on the food we eat (processed) and the lack of exercise. The path to reversal is not easy though. Other than the usual suspect of processed food & meat (as it is inflammatory), this book weighs in heavily against dairy as well. There is a good amount of reasoning for all her recommendations.
Overall, an informative book. It would have been even better if more foods & their impact were discussed.
"Reversing Diabetes in 21 Days" by Nandita Shah is a practical guide to achieving better health through plant-based nutrition. Dr. Shah's holistic approach and simple, science-backed advice offer hope to those struggling with diabetes. An informative and empowering resource for individuals seeking to take control of their health.
