The most detailed guide to the desert mountains of California and Southern Nevada. There is a lifetime of knowledge of these peaks passed onto the reader.

Amazingly comprehensive guide to mountaineering and hiking in the deserts of California and southern Nevada. I've used the information in this book to assist me in climbing numerous desert peaks, and found it to be consistently accurate and helpful without completely eliminating the adventure of finding one's own way in the wild.

Quite simply one of my favorite books, ever. To tag every single summit mentioned in this book would be a lifetime endeavor, albeit not impossible. Zdon is a scientist who spices up his directions with humorous and interesting anecdotes. He does not give the reader/prospective hiker overmuch detail, the implication being that you will use and hone your own skills. He also opens up areas and ranges that you may never have thought of exploring - and when you do, such rewards! This book is the ne plus ultra for SoCal and SoNev desert hikers. A true gem.
