Great Jobs for Foreign Language Majors serves a dual-purpose: first, it covers a variety of general job search information (such as cover letters, resumes, and the follow-up call); second, it explores major sectors and some job titles within those sectors in which foreign language majors may find employment. A lengthy list of additional resources is included at the end.

Overall, I was a bit disappointed with the degree of usefulness. For starters, the first section on resumes and cover letters is about a third (~65 pages) of the book. If I needed help with a resume, I'd get a book on resumes. I understand including that sort of information, but it felt not only excessive given the title of the book, but it screamed "copy & paste" from any other book out of the series.

The second half was better. The authors covered the major careers paths typically taken, and included information such as education requirements, sample job ads, typical environments, and salary information as available. The downside was that each chapter seemed excruciatingly long, and the way each chapter was broken down seemed rather choppy. Especially towards the end reading became a difficult and slow process.

I read this book in conjunction with "Great Jobs for English Majors" and found it helpful in streamlining my resume and adding relevant information I wouldn't have otherwise found to help me in my linguistics job search.
