A well written overview of the institutional changes in the urban structure of Rome during the papacy of Alexander VII. A lot of the Rome we see today has to do with the changes that he made. One of the major problems they had to deal with was the terrible traffic caused by the dramatic increase in usage of the carriage. The carriage had become a status symbol and were becoming larger and difficult to get through the narrow and winding streets, not to mention the parking problems. Apparently this is not a new problem created by cars.
