I am not a fan

I am not a fan. The actual words of the Lord's prayer are simple. I learned the prayer as a small child. It gave Jesus's example and recommendation of how to speak to God. It has comforted me, thrilled me and amazed me. It was sung at my wedding and at my husband's funeral. It is words for the ages and needs no dumbing down.

It surprises me that I give a 2 rating to a Sally Lloyd-Jones book, but I didn't care for the text. In Found (Psalm 23) the vernacular much more closely followed the actual Scripture, but I'm not sure if read Loved without know it was phrased from The Lord's Prayer that I would realize that. Maybe that is deficiency in me. As always, Jago's illustration are interesting to explore. ...more

The actual Lord's prayer in the Bible is beautiful and precise....this is anything but. Better for children to learn the truth as it is clearly taught from God's Word than to have it so muddled as it is here. I am not a fan of "dumbing-down" easily understood plain English for children. If one were to take the Bible, read to their children and communicate the teachings, there would be no need for such nonsense. ...more

I love Sally Lloyd-Jones’ The Jesus Storybook Bible. This book takes the Lord’s Prayer, which is included in there, and expands the illustrations to a full-length board book. The illustrations, of a group of children going on a forest adventure, are sweet, but the way she translated the Psalm is almost too simplified and not recognizable to the original Biblical text.

More good stuff from Sally Lloyd-Jones. But Found: Psalm 23 is better in my opinion. ...more

It’s a great book, not just for kids, but adults, too. The wordings of the book is simple for kids to understand, but also makes it relatable because it reflects how we speak with and to each other nowadays. The illustrations are fantastic and eye catching. It’s just like the books I had when I was little and got me hooked on reading. Easy five stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer in language that little children can grasp.

I really like the way Sally Lloyd-Jones rephrased this. I think many adults would benefit from this paraphrase. It makes it very easy to understand and apply to life. The illustrations are sweet too. Highly recommended to Christian families, Sunday schools, and Christian schools.

Nice pictures but the text is a poor representation of the Model Prayer. As one other reader noted if you didn't know ahead of time that it was supposedly based on the model prayer- you would have a hard time knowing it. ...more

I typically love this author’s works but was disappointed with this. It did no favors to either the Lord’s Prayer or the children to whom this book may be read instead of the actual Lord’s Prayer. I would’ve given it an even lower rating if it weren’t for the gorgeous illustrations.

4 stars for the illustrations  This book is a paraphrase of the Lord's Prayer in language that little kids can understand. It was nice to read and think differently about what the words we're used to actually mean. ...more

This is more like a prayer for little kids.
This is religious story, designed for little once.
It has really gorgeous illustrations.

Couldn’t wait to get my copy in the mail! The dynamic duo have done it again! Beautiful adaptation of the Lord’s prayer that is simple enough for children, poignant enough for adults.
