This time Suzanne and Jake are invited to a swanky overnight party in this city. There they spend the night locked in an unfinished towering building with one floor at the top completed and a monster security system to keep them locked in during a nightmare of an ice storm and power outage. There Suzanne learns more about each of her book club buddies and their husbands. One of the husbands is killed by someone at the party, but who is it.
I really loved how this story takes us out of Suzanne's normal small town world and gives us a new cast of characters to learn about. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. I would like to see more adventures away from home and the regular cast of characters. This reminds me of how Jessica Fletcher would have interesting trips that turned into murder investigations.

I actually kind of liked this one. More so because of the potential rather than actual execution. Suzanne and Jake are trapped in a building with a murderer. It's totally unrealistic (they can't exit the building because the power is out and the locks are all locked because I'm sure that's not against fire code or my question, how can a lock stay locked when it's powered by power when there is no power).
Suzanne is such an awful person. I'm waiting for her comeuppance. She might finally get in in the form of her book club finally seeing who she really is. Suzanne has taken extravagant gifts from them and advice and time and friendship and what the heck does she offer in return? Accusations, rudeness, disrespect, and no kindness shown at all.
Let's see what happens when she treats her "friends" so badly?

Time to pull out the out-of-town boilerplate again.
An invitation to a weekend party at a swanky new high rise. Bad Weather. Building staff sent home. A power outage. No cell phone service. High security bulletproof and shatterproof windows with no backup power to unlock them. Almost everyone has a reason to want the host to be dead. Suzanne whipping up breakfast like a magician pulling a rabbit out of his hat.
All you have to do is change the characters around a bit and you have the same situation as at least 4 other out-of-town trips. Suzanne and Jake really need to quit taking trips were psychotic strangers are hanging out in desolate areas.

Most of the series' regular characters were missing with the exception of a few brief exchanges in the beginning of the book . The main part of the book took place within a 24-hour period, which was a bit unusual. Formulaic plot that has been done before, nothing particularly new about the concept. But it was a Donut Shop Mystery, and I enjoy the series, so it was worth the read to keep up with the characters.

It reminded me of a big game of clue... I still guessed the suspect wrong but I enjoyed another of Jessica Beck’s cozy go to mysteries. Looking forward to the next!
