“To paraphrase Lao Tzu, knowing others is intelligence; knowing what they’re up to is true wisdom.”
New York author Jay Fitzpatrick majored in architecture, has been Vice President of Gimbels Department Store in New York City, and started Fitzpatrick Design Group, a Retail Design Firm that became Fitzpatrick International Group, designing Shopping Centers and Department Stores globally. Jay is a former Marine Rocket Man-Law Man with combat experience in Vietnam. His specialty was Rockets and Demolitions. He is an avid runner and has run the seven NYC Marathons since its inception in the 70’s. It is obvious that Jay is a man of action and his novels reflect that aspect of his creative mind. THE PATSY is his third novel: his initial novels FEAR ITSELF and BEST SERVED ICY remain popular.
Jay Fitzpatrick could easily transition to being a screenwriter, so well wrought are his examinations and dissections of historic evens as well as his manner of making a story move like a terrifying locomotive headed off the globe into space. Few authors are able to combine time travel concepts with topical global events and in doing so offer ideas/concepts of just where things could possibly go in these precarious and ominous times. Jay does this with aplomb.
The book opens with a Prologue that brings the reader into the mind and actions of Lee Harvey Oswald and places the important implication in the words of Oswald himself. ‘Dallas, Texas November 22-24, 1963 My name is Lee Oswald, not Lee Harvey Oswald. It seems that the newspapers like to add middle names: John Wilkes Booth, James Earl Ray, and Thomas Arthur Vallee. Who? More on Vallee in a minute. In the Marines, they called me Osvaldovich, because of my Marxist leanings, while others called me Ozzie, after the TV show, but my family and friends call me Lee. I’m going to tell you a short story, not the whole story but the whole truth, at least that which can be corroborated. I liked President Kennedy. I even tipped-off the FBI about ‘Plan A’, the Chicago assassination plot to kill the president. Oh, you didn’t hear about that one? On November 1, 1963, in Chicago, the Secret Service detained and questioned two members of a four-man sniper team suspected of planning to assassinate President Kennedy during his visit to Chicago the following day. Two of the team members escaped and one was released after questioning. The fourth team member, Thomas Arthur Vallee, a mentally damaged ex-Marine, worked in a building overlooking Kennedy’s motorcade route. On the day Kennedy was supposed to be in Chicago, November 2, 1963, South Vietnam President Diem and his brother Ngo were assassinated by a Vietnamese Army/CIA backed coup, sanctioned by President Kennedy. Kennedy approved the coup but not the assassination. White House Press Secretary Pierre Salinger announced President Kennedy’s trip to Chicago had been canceled, thanks to my tip. While the two suspected snipers were questioned at the Chicago Secret Service headquarters, only potential assassin scapegoat Thomas Arthur Vallee was arrested. The other two alleged snipers remained at large in Chicago. Only Vallee was ever identified publicly. Had ‘Plan A’ succeeded, the press would have spun the story that Kennedy got what he deserved for sanctioning the Diem coup and assassination; I would probably still be alive but unknown and forgotten, while Thomas Arthur Vallee would be forever remembered as the ‘Lone-Nut Assassin’.
Jay’s complex, immensely entertaining novel follows just that manner of reality testing and adds time travel as possibilities for resolution of current events. As Jay states, ‘This is a satirical time travel political thriller that demonstrates to the world what happens when America is forced to destroy itself to survive.’ His synopsis condenses the many aspects of the plot as well as anyone could summarize; ‘President Tommy Burk has just been re-elected to his second term as POTUS and is looking to establish his legacy. The president, working with NASA plasma physicists and engineers at the Tesla Space Flight Center, have opened doorways into time. The president’s first test is to send time jumpers into the past to find the truth about a crime that has haunted America for fifty-three years. THE PATSY succeeds on many levels and doubtless will become a poplar a novel as it is controversial – a perfect combination for a successful political thriller
I thought The Patsy quite captivating. Jay Fitzpatrick presents a thriller that makes you wonder what this world would be like if you could go back and observe history. President Burke finds a way to send a team back to find out if Lee Harvey Oswald really did shoot President Kennedy, or if he was a pawn. This time travel wasn’t just for an answer about the assassination, but something bigger in the present.
The first time travel was a test, that went horribly wrong and the team was stuck back in time because of a mole in the present. It leaves you wondering if they will send their next team to the future to find out about the warheads that were being sold among the US enemies. Will the mole foil this plan also, and how is he able to travel?
The Patsy is an intriguing novel, following then”current” United States President as he sends time travelers to different periods in time to explore particular events of the past. The story follows a what if premise, as it studies what could have been or where we would be if something hadn’t happened. The time travelers study events to figure out the exact cause or what happened to create one of the events. I have to admit I was kind of mind blown by this book, it may be my first book by Jay Fitzpatrick but it won’t be my last. I loved the mix of present time and history, it added something really unique and interesting to the whole story. All the characters were well portrayed and multidimensional and the story moved smoothly with no hangups or dragging on. I was hooked from start to finish. I really hope to see more from Jay Fitzpatrick soon!
Jay Fitzpatrick’s, “The Patsy,” is a fantastic look at the loss of one of the United States of America’s greatest leaders and how it could have all been one giant charade. The current president of the United States is searching for the truth and with new technology from a slew of research, the hunt begins to determine if John F. Kennedy was truly murdered by Lee Harvey Oswald. I love the science fiction aspect being applied to a historically questioned conspiracy that is prevalent in regular, everyday society. The way Fitzpatrick goes about creating the whole scenario and then looking at future potential problems for the United States, where the president tries to prevent the onslaught of a terrorist attack that would lead into a potential for World War III to occur. It is such a crazy slew of events that occur and they are so well connected and feel so realistic, that it makes the novel hard to put down!
I was completely and utterly blown away by this book! I could not believe how good it was from the beginning to the very end. I really enjoy this political/mystery/conspiracy theories genre but was a bit afraid of the time travel addition in the plotline but I was sold on it. It’s a great idea, generating a lot of interesting plotlines and opening many subjects up to discussion. It was a premise brilliantly used. This is my first book from Jay Fitzpatrick but it won’t be my last. The creative premise and the solid plotlines combined with the action sequences and the many twists gave way to one of my favorite book of 2017. The characters are very good, relatable and multi-layered. The dialogues are a delight, beautifully executed. There is some very good writing job here, reminiscing some of the best in the genre. Make sure to give it a go and I’m sure you won’t regret it.
This novel by Jay Fitzpatrick is a unique story that tells the tale of Tommy Burk, the current United States president, who sends time travelers to certain areas in the past and future to figure out previous historical mysteries and future events that have affected/will affect the country. One time period Burk sends his time travelers to is the 1960s in order to figure out what really happened with John F. Kennedy’s assassination. Burk also sends the time travelers into the future to find out what future attacks might occur in the country and what they can do in the present to stop them from actually happening. Fitzpatrick’s book is incredibly unique and thrilling. His writing style is engrossing which will make it difficult to put the book down. This is a great novel for those interested in thrillers and politics to check out and is also perfect for those looking for a creative read.
The Patsy by Jay Fitzpatrick is a time travel book mixed with politics that attempts to solve one the biggest mysteries of the modern age, did Lee Harvey Oswald really kill JFK? Or was he just a patsy? With the current President Burk looking into to solving this mystery among others, the use of time travel comes into play. New technology may just provide the answer. There is a great mix here of science, politics, government overreach and conspiracy theories. Burk sends time travelers here and there to try and solve previous historical events but also events in the future, which may help and prevent another World War. Well written characters figure prominently in the story, which is written with a healthy dose of satire and humor. While not a plausible premise, the author has managed to make the concept of time travel interesting, especially within the historical and political context.
If you like political thrillers mixed with a splash of time travel, you will thoroughly enjoy The Patsy by Jay Fitzpatrick. Although fictional, it seems ripped right out of yesterday’s, today's and tomorrow’s headlines. Quite believable, and that's what will keep you up at night reading chapter after chapter. The revelations of the JFK assassination are unspeakable. The reality about what may happen with North Korea is terrifying. The Patsy is filled with: satire, suspense, action, time travel, truth, humor, and amusing well-developed characters. I had trouble putting it down. I never guessed the ending, but when it came I almost cried. Headline: Riveting-Shocking. Hold on for a ride ripped right out of Yesterday’s, today’s and tomorrow’s headlines.
The Patsy is a rich political novel centered around the President of America. What makes the book unique is the use of time travel in a strictly political setting. The story starts with Lee Oswald and his day at the JFK killing. It shows how Oswald was allowed to bleed to death even when he was surrounded by people. The book while being fiction, raises much questions and awareness into the political world and shows how politicians twist facts to serve their own ends. In fact, many of the topics which are making headlines today have found place inside this mesmerizing tale and I found myself being impressed by the author's genius and his wide research. The book is worth reading if nothing else than to stimulate your minds and to question things rather than to accept them at face value.
This is a one of a kind story presented to the reader in an exciting and gripping fashion. The president of the United States has a team of time travelers that are used to explore the past and future in order to prevent anything bad from happening in the present. From the Kennedy assassination to the terror attacks, this journey keeps you on the edge waiting for the next twist is this amazing story. The author is very creative and descriptive in the characters and presentation of this story to the readers. I found myself unable to put down the story and engaged in finding out what happens in the end. Great story that I would recommend to everyone. This is hands down one of my favorites.
Wow this book was not what I expected! I though time traveling politics was a little far-fetched but the story drew me right in. This is a fast-paced, exciting, nerve wracking, emotional whirlwind of a story as the President opens doors never before opened - leaving many to deal with the consequences of a man trying to leave behind some sort of legacy tied to his name. The ending was a surprise, so be prepared. The events and characters are not far off from today's news, so the story will resonate with many and make you think of the "what-ifs." A great, fast read that many will enjoy - particularly if you like time-travel stories.
A thrilling, creative and thoughtful story with the theme of time travel to be used as benefits in politics. The idea is unique, so that it is a big plus and it grabs the attention from start to end. It’s the story of a President who wants to use time travel only to find the truth so he can fix the history but then has to deal with its impacts. The message is quite simple if we had known the facts, can we prevent the war or destruction? We suffer based on paths we choose? The plot is a blend of science-Twist of time travel and Politics – corruption. Quite Interesting!
