I almost asked myself, why isn’t everyone an influencer? But I already knew the answer to that: Because being an influencer is hard.

Everyone is an "Influencer" nowadays but are they really? You look on their feed and think "I can do this!" but can you? Honestly, it is exhausting how many "influencers" we have out there trying to make it "big". In Influencer Brittany Hennessy gives us play by play look into the world of influencers and what you can do to step your game up. While she offers prac

4.5 Easy to read, easy directions and written in understandable terms. Woot Woot ! becoming an influencer is a dream that I and many others have, getting there is not a natural thing. This is a new world and Ms. Hennessy walks us through it gently explaining each step with clear detailing. The relationships building, the contacts, the followers, all of it. I think any vlogger, blogger, online seller, online reviewer, social networker, would find great help between these covers. The book is well ...more

Although the book focuses a lot on digital influencers in the beauty, fashion and style industries, it shares valuable insights on how to navigate the brand development and business management hurdles of being an online personality (or just an everyday social media user). With the sort of experience she has had, Brittany certainly knows what she's talking about and I give her credit for taking the initiative to share that knowledge with anyone willing to read about it.

I saw the book Influencer, on a fellow book blogger's website. The review was so good that you could say I was 'influenced," by the blogger to purchase it! I am not a social media "influencer" in the sense that Hennessey is writing about; however, I am a book blogger and indie author. As a writer, I know just how important it is to take control of one's social media image. Although Hennesy's book is targeted toward lifestyle, fashion, parenting, travel, and beauty bloggers, she had lots of grea ...more

As a book blogger, vlogger and author, I was interested to see what Influencer had to offer in terms of advice on building my platform. Although this book is aimed more at those looking to broker partnerships with brands, it still has some useful advice and ideas on increasing followers and interactions, and getting your voice heard over the noise that is social media. I closed the book with a few new ideas on how to present content on my various channels, and between Hennessy's tips and comment ...more

Brittany spoke at a PW Tech Connect panel that I attended on behalf of the publishing company I work for, Familius. We are currently trying to grow our influencer marketing campaigns. Brittany’s book gave me great insight on the work that goes into building a personal brand and creating content. It is certainly one of the most comprehensive descriptions of the business of influencing that I’ve ever seen! This book will help me bring back key notes to my company about the specific benefits and st ...more

First, for the bad. I thought this would be a lot different than what it was in many ways.

The title promises that you will learn to build your brand on Social Media. It does not tell you that it focuses primarily on Instagram and talks about virtually no other platform. It does not say that if you have less than 100,000 Instagram followers, and especially if you have less than 25,000 followers, you will not be able to use any of these tactics. It does not help you figure out how to get to even

Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media by Brittany Hennessy won’t be for everyone but if you are active on social media – or are even just interested in how big-time social media moguls make it work behind the scenes – you’ll find lots of valuable takeaways here. An “influencer” in this case is someone who has a large and dedicated following on social media; significant enough to be able to make money or even live off of their content creation. There is a lot of focu

In this age of digital media, influencer marketing has become a lucrative business and a viable, potentially well-paying career option for many. Into this world, Brittany Hennessey - a marketer talent agent has penned this book: a how-to guide of sorts to becoming and maximising earnings as an influencer.

Key Takeaways

In the digital space, an influencer is a person with social currency with high levels of engagement and will propel his or her followers to act in a particular way; mostly to make purchases.

Although the label "influencer" has developed a negative connotation over the last couple of years, no one can dispute that it is a lucrative income stream. Based on her experience as the first-ever Senior Director of Influencer Strategy and Talent Partnerships at Hearst Magazines Digital Media, Brittany Henn

Brittany Hennessy does a great job on writing a book about that targets Instagram as the platform to promote your work. Appropriately titled, Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media this book makes you understand the strategies behind the Insta-popularity/lifestyle.

4.5 stars - This is a great guide for what to and not to do in order to get your blog or vlog well-positioned for brand partnerships. It's not about how to build an audience, but how to orchestrate things so that you are attractive to companies who wish to create a mutually beneficial relationship with you based on the audience you've already attracted.

Influencer is the how to guide to become a heavy hitter in the Instagram/Facebook/YouTube sphere by having an active blogging/vlogging and positing life with common sense business strategies that are relevant for today’s youth going into this market. No fluff here. This book is a concrete instruction manual for someone wanting to become an Instagram influencer, with a clear focus on female fashion writers. Take beautiful photos, build a following, and then carve out a portion of your feed for sponsored posts that allow you to try out expensive stuff and make money.

Obviously the short length of the book required the omission of a lot of generic Instagram advice: how to get more followers, choose hashtags and filters, get a great image, etc -

A very insightful book about how to start your own business as a true Influencer for brands or causes. Britanny takes you to step by step in the process of how to start your business, define your service, build your portfolio, how to contact clients, partners and create a business proposal.

One of my favorite parts of the book were the **Don't be that girl** stories and tips she shares about very big mistakes that lead to not get hired, lose great deals with big companies and lose a lot of money

On point guidance that includes the brand perspective. I've worked on the brand side, seeking talent and directly coaching influencers who are looking for partnerships. Too many times, I've seen 'how to' books written by the influencers themselves and while some of them are quite good, it's invaluable to understand how the other side, the Brand, views these relationships. The book was a very easy read, and while most of the influencers were the elite, the information is good for any level. Sampl ...more

I absolutely loved this book for the many tips, tricks and honest information. The information is toped up with influencer insights: real influencers talking about their experiences. Damn! Such amazing knowledge being shared. It is literally as if you bought a $200 ticket to a massive influencer convention and got to hear 50 key note speakers – but then in a $15 book.

Is this worth a buy? Yes. Bloggers should definitely add this book to their collection.

Brittany Hennessy wrote a straight-forward “blueprint” on the business of Influencer Marketing that covers creative, legal, & business topics. It is a great resource for anyone interested in becoming an influencer or simply curious about what it takes to be one.

The book opened my eyes to how much work & business savvy being an Influencer requires. I suggest reading the book from beginning to end, but I recommend starting with the Conclusion as it outlines 3 mantras & tasks that can

The focus of this book is on the ins and outs of how to build your brand from the ground up in order to commercialize it (i.e. make a business out of it). Hennessy mostly gives advice geared toward fashion, travel, and lifestyles bloggers, since that's the industry she works in, but the advice could be applied to other industries as well. It's a great primer if you're really wanting to turn your account into a business down the line - there are sections about the importance of creating quality c ...more

Borrowed this because my company is doing a marketing push and WOW influencers are way less organic than I thought (at least in the US, in Singapore I don't think they're as organised, although it is earning money). It deals primarily with content influencers, not people who just happen to make money documenting their lives, so it covers only one half of the influencer sphere, but it does give a good overview of how these people approach brands/what brands should look for when looking for influe ...more

This book is full of practical insights and tips in how to a successful influencer. The sample influencers in this book are women in their respective field but the advices are applicable to men influencers as well.

The book is engaging to read and will really resonate to those who are in the content marketing business already. If you are new blogger, vlogger etc., this book can help you know the things you need as you become successful.

I guess as a very micro influencer who isn't really looking to make influencing a full time job, this book isn't really for me. I thought it would be more about building up presence and social media - but it basically tells you as a super small influencer to follow people with less followers than you so they follow you back, but I guess I'm just not in to growing that way. I just didn't love all the tips personally; but, I guess it would work for people with bigger audiences and reach.

An approachable guide for anyone who wants to become an influencer. Also good for learning the behind-the-scenes work that leads to beautiful Instagram images and Pinterest pins, and engaging videos on YouTube, etc. Brittany Hennessy writes in a casual but straightforward style. The glossary in the back is helpful to interpret the jargon of the field. Also a good choice for young professionals to learn about building positive relationships in the workplace.

This book is good especially if you're new in starting off as a blogger, vlogger, YouTuber, etc. Some of the information in the book were useful for me, but I already knew most of them, so I had to skim through a lot of the book. All in all, if you want to know the basics of becoming an influencer, this book may be a good resource. But the truth is that "success" won't come over night. It will take TIME.
