Moonlight And Midtown

Rate this book
“Mixes cherished fantasy classics with modern magic and moxie” – Foreword

After battling werewolves and evil aunties, Bryar Rose is ready to enjoy her new life. No more crazy aunties. Her curse is toast. And Bry’s new man, Knox, is literally a dream come true. Best of all, Bry will soon attend a regular high school. Forget those sketchy tutors! To get ready, Bry is dedicating the rest of her summer to some serious back-to-school shopping with her best friend, Elle. It’s a blast, except for one

Mysterious strangers are following Bry across Manhattan.

All these stalkers have oddly familiar scents and an uncanny ability to slip into the shadows whenever Bry tries to confront them. Even worse, their presence is making Knox act crazy with a capital C.

“Bauer’s unique voice blends magical fantasy, swooning romance, and a bucketful of teenage sass.” – Booklist

But Bry’s having none of it. Enough of her life has already been ruined by secrets. With Elle’s help, Bry plans to confront these strangers, find out what they want, and send them packing. Trouble is, the truth about their identity won’t be so easy to manage, especially when Bry finds out how these stalkers could change her future with Knox…and not for the better.

Perfect for readers who love young adult books, gamma guys, contemporary fantasy, fairy tales, satire/comedy, paranormal romance, fairies, magic users, shapeshifters, and coming of age stories.

*You can read my review of Book #1 Wolves and Roses here*

Moonlight and Midtown was a ton of fun and the perfect way to see what our favorite characters were up to. Ultimately we got to watch Bryar and Elle's shopping extravaganza and oh my gosh, it was action packed and a little bit crazy lol. But we also got to learn more about the world that they lived in and watch Bryar and Knox start to find their place in life. This novella was a quick, lighthearted read that left me feeling even more excited for the next book in this series!

Nyxa takes a half step backward. “I command you to leave my presence.” But her words come out as a half whisper.
Nyxa is afraid.
As well she should be.
Knox and I share a quick look. There’s no need to speak. We both know what we want to do.

I loved getting a peak into Bryar's struggles, since she learned what she was. But the poor girl couldn't catch a break and her wolf was uncontrollable. Thankfully she had Elle, her bestie, who was ready to take her on a shopping trip since she kept destroying her clothes every time she shifted. And speaking of Elle, we also got to see Alex, a warlock and Knox's best friend. The interaction between Elle and Alex was a lot of fun and I need to find out more about Elle's past and why that hinders them from being together. They're so fabulous together! See, I need that next book now lol.
Right here, this moment. This is what I like so much about being with Knox. He understands me like no one else ever has.

But my favorite in this series? Knox. He was as seductive as ever. And I loved what a good friend he had become to Bryar. They worked together so well. I mean, yes he was her mate, but still, I loved the way they meshed. It warmed my heart how Knox would help Byrar out and that he was always by her side. Even though he had his own struggles......
His ice-blue eyes lock with mine as he twirls us around. “Say it again.”
My face turns about three shades of red. “Mate.”

Just like the first book in this series, this novella was beyond adorable. So if you loved Wolves and Roses, definitely give this one a try. It was a super quick read and it was a ton of fun. I loved every minute of it!

Bryar Rose is adjusting to her new life now that she can shift. Shifting is the big problem, especially when her wolf pushes her to shift at the most inconvenient of times. This pushes Knox, Bry’s boyfried, to drastic measure to help Bry control her wolf.

Bry also goes on a shopping adventure to find the perfect outfit, a magical outfit, that will stay with her while shifting since she is exploding all her clothes. You never thought shopping was a dangerous adventure until you go with Bryar Rose.

I enjoyed Moonlight and Midtown but I had no connection to the characters and I believe its because this is not a stand alone read. Maybe if I read Wolves and Roses, I would of been more invested in a shopping trip and tangle with an evil fairy queen. From the synopsis, this is my kind of series. I would like the opportunity to read book 1 and see how I feel about 1.5 before I had to rate it... it stands now its 3.5 for me.

I received this ARC copy of Moonlight and Midtown from Monster House Books LLC. This is my honest and voluntary review. b>Moonlight and Midtown is set for publication May 27,

This is a bridge novella that takes place immediately after book 1 and leads you into book 2 of the Magicorum series. I highly recommend you read the first book before this one because this is a lighter read and so much happened in book one.

Bryar is fresh into her shifter powers and is trying quickly to learn how to control her wolf but is failing miserably. She and Elle have moved into a townhouse owned by Le Charme and now her boyfriend Knox, an alpha wolf, and Alec Le Charme are their neighbors. Bryar is about to start regular school and is going to a mixer to meet other Magicorum students who will also be attending. The corrupt Magicorum instructors are gone. The problem is her wolf overtakes her so frequently she is running out of clothes to wear.

Bryar comes off to me much younger than she did in book one. I don't know why but it's been hard to overlook. I loved the first book so much though I had to see where the author went with this novella.

She decides to go to the underground Fae shops and see if there is anything they can do about her clothing issues. The girls continue to play pranks on the guys and they always retaliate. Alec comes off as more of a prankster than Knox though. Knox seems like the most mature of the group to me. He does a lot to teach Bryar about her wolf until he starts acting out of control. Bryar starts feeling uneasy like someone is following her and with Knox off his game she has to figure out what to do.

This book was cute with enough intrigue and foreshadowing to make me excited to read the next book that comes out this fall!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

New to me author Ms. Bauer intrigues me. I generally avoid YA because in the past ten years, it tends to have such a toxic reader/reviewer/author environment. It saddens me because sometimes, there are gems like this little story that I would pass up and miss. This novella is intriguing as it hints of a tie ins to fairy tales I've enjoyed reading.

In this one, the focus is on Bryar Rose who is based off the sleeping beauty template. I have not read the first book in this series and now I'm thinking of going back to find it. It is interesting to learn about how fae, shifter and witches intermingle in this world. Lucky Bryar is an intersection of all three and that makes for some challenging times.

The characters in this story are young and yet they behave older than I would have thought. Specifically, Bryar's mate Knox seems to be pretty mature. It is nice to see young adults who genuinely like each other. They work together and protect each other.

This story is also fun in that it isn't serious. There are a couple of serious moments, but there are also some very funny ones. I loved the fae sheep. That part was hilarious and I can't stop giggling about it. I think they stole the show because not only are they adorable but also vicious little buggers. Recommended for readers who enjoy young adult genre with snarky inner wolf voices.

This a novella set in The Fairy Tales of The Magicorum series, and takes place four weeks after Wolves and Roses. Bry's needs help train  her wolf  as in last book the spell that was put on Bry was released, all her magic was returned, and so was her Wolf much to her shock.
Unfortunately all her clothes and furniture is ruined. So all she wants is some new clothes and learn to control her wolf.
Knox is the one to help with the inner wolf, but a girl needs her girlfriend to go shopping.
This is an entertaining novella of Bry and Elle shopping. Bryer Rose needs Knox to help control her wolf. This is an entertaining peek into the lives of Knox and Bry, with some help for Alec and Elle. Even in a novella Christina draws in with practice ease and wets my appetite until the next book

Review:
I recieved this book from NetGalley for review.

This was a really enjoyable novella. I really like these characters, and the world it's set in. I wish it was longer, but the second book is coming out soon(ish) so I'm not too bummed that it's short.

I can't wait to read more of this series.

I enjoyed the first book a lot more, but this one isn't bad. Didn't grab me as much as I would have liked, though that's more to do with the plot and not the characters. I still liked them a lot, especially Knox.

Also, I loved this: "Surprisingly enough, it's really cool to find out you have knights, even if they made up the title themselves and tell you about it while naked and covering their junk with bras."

Rather looking forward to book 2 when it comes out!

It's only a novella, but I did enjoy it, although some parts I did find myself thinking it was a bit cheesy but that was my personal opinion.

Loved this fun little jaunt back into the Magicorum world! Especially loved Bryar Rose having some girl time with her bestie, Elle (who by the way, is my favorite character.)

The idea of shifters with wardrobe issues is simply the best, and I love Bauer's ability to craft a practical problem with a supernatural solution. The sidebar charas are fun, and OMG, and Abe and Hollywood--could I love these two goofballs more? Also good to see Nyxa make a return.

Super fun and snarky! Not to miss!

The gang is back on another fun and crazy adventure. Here Bryar and her bestie are trying to buy Bry clothes. What happens when a werewolf goes clothes shopping in the stores run by fairies and one in particular was the fairy queen? Well you can only imagine the trouble they get into.

The story is fun and flirtatious. Elle has never been one to back down from things and neither has Bry so these two get into all sorts of hijinks just buying clothes. Clothes that Bry won’t destroy with her wolfie ways. I love the different characters in the stores and how the stores are not what they seem on the outside but on the inside are wild and crazy. The fabrics and magic infused in the clothing is nuts and fun.

The story isn’t all fun in the shops where her and Elle get in trouble though. WE see Bryar’s struggle in coming to terms and being who she is now. We see her and Knox trying to find their footing in their new world and with each other. the two are great together but are new and figuring things out along the way. Then we have Elle and Alec who are fighting their attraction but are so fun and flirty with each other and we have some crazy times there as well.

This is a quick, quirky and fun read that keeps you laughing, smiling and on your toes but also gets you a little more insight on these four and where they are and how they are doing.

A fun novella featuring an unusual shopping day in Manhattan with Bryar Rose and Elle--don't call me Cinderella---which inevitably ends up combining fun and mayhem. Did I mention Knox is in this one too? He is. Don't miss this bridge novella between WOLVES AND ROSES and SHIFTERS AND GLYPHS.

Moonlight and Midtown by Christina Bauer is a fun but quick novella in the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series that draws readers back into this magical world of mischief and adventure.

Having battled zombies, werewolves and evil aunties, Bryar Rose is ready for the next stage in her life which includes learning the ins and outs of her new werewolf side and spending time with her man Knox. Oh, and best of all, she’ll also be starting at a regular school soon. If only she could find clothing that doesn’t shred the moment she transforms into her wolf? Enter a fae shopping spree to find indestructible clothes and soon Bryar and Elle find themselves caught in the middle of a fight against some fairies and in way over their head. How will Bryar get out of her latest mess?

Taking place between books 1 and 2, Moonlight and Midtown is an enjoyable look into Bryar Rose’s life that allows readers to discover how our heroine is adjusting to life now that her werewolf nature has been released. Short and easy, Moonlight and Midtown sees Bryar, Elle, Knox and Alec back along with two new characters; hilariously adorable and hopeless werewolves Abe and Hollywood, who just want to be helpful.

Definitely a must read for fans of the series, Moonlight and Midtown is a quaint read and is a great way to tide yourself over until the next full length novel in the series releases.

Rating: 5 Stars

This is a quick novella read that follows the events of Wolves and Roses and how things were left off. Bryar Rose is ready to enjoy her new life away from her evil aunties and her curse. She has a new man, who is literally her dream guy, and about to attend a regular school with her bestie. Sounds great. Accept her wolf side takes some effort to get used to and it has ruined her wardrobe. Oh and there are some sketchy things happening in the city and with magic as a whole. Her life is far from boring.

I liked the little insight to follow up with these characters. Bryar, Knox, Elle, and Alec are great fun. I liked that Bry wasn’t instantly okay with and good at all this power that she uncovered. She has to learn to handle it and that also means ruining some clothing along the way. But hey perfect reason for a shopping trip with the bestie. We get to see some more bonding with Bry and Knox which is always fun because Knox is pretty awesome with her and he tough exterior and soft center only for her. This really was a novella so not a ton to say just that it gives some depth to the characters in the aftermath both fun and not so fun moments as well as building up more of the world and the issues they face. I can’t wait for the next full book set to come out later this year, Shifters and Glyphs.

In this book you will get to see how Bryar Rose is adjusting to her new life, now that she knows that she is a shifter and holds more magic than her mate... Who we found out was Knox in the last book. However, the wolf is having a much harder time with always waiting to come out to play at the most random of times. She is learning how to control her wolf and is still trying to figure out why she is so powerful and what that means for her and her friends.

This is a novella that takes place right after book one and you get to go on an adventure with Bryar and Knox as well as an adventure with Elle to the Fairy shopping stores for some much-needed magical clothes that will not get ruined when Bryar shifts.

I loved the shopping trip and getting to see how the fairies work in their world and I really loved Bryar wolf and how she really wanted to eat the sheep.

You can read this book as a stand alone but remember it's just a novella, so it's just a little something more for the readers to have before the next book.

Bry is ready to finally attend a regular high school after years with the evil aunties. Or is she? She is still having trouble controlling her wolf and with the general public getting picture happy, the last thing she needs is to un-shift in the nude. Now Bry has a group of strangers following her around town and her best friend Elle is willing to help her confront them. Can Bry determine who these strangers are? Will the answers uncovered change how she looks at her future?

Moonlight and Midtown is an in-between novella from the Fairy Tales of the Magicorum series. This book is just a tease of what may be awaiting us when the second novel comes out. Bauer does spend a little bit of time recounting events from the first novel, but quickly the new story unfolds and readers will be pleased with the outcome. There are magical creatures, an adventure and even some romantic tension mixed in. A fun read for those who enjoyed the first book.

I received an arc of this book in exchange of an honest review.
If you are hooked on the first book in this series, Wolves and Roses, and you just can't wait for the second installment, then this novella is for you!

Moonlight and Midtown is definitely a great bridge between the two books that can satisfy your cravings in meeting our amazing kick-ass characters in Magicorum again after the initial release. Yes, it is short but not to worry, it is still packed with all kinds of crazy action and adventures, so crazy in fact that I lost track of the plot structure at some point (hence why I'm giving it a 4/5), but still extremely intriguing that just keeps you from putting the book down.

Overall, I still have no doubts on Cristina Bauer's skill in her writing style and in creating amazing characters, so yes recommended. Although you definitely need to read the first book if you don't want to feel lost.

This Novella takes place after the first book and is meant to bridge the gap between Book 1 and 2. I thought this short story was very cute and fun and does a good job of taking us down from book1 and setting us up for book2.

Watching Briar Rose try to keep her inner wolf in check through out the story was a great and entertaining idea because, of course, after having been locked up all of Briar's life her wolfy side is bound to be a lot stir crazy and we get to see her and her friends deal with this situation in sometimes comical ways. I enjoyed getting to see Knox, Alec, and Elle again as well as minor supporting characters. My only complaint is that there is a bit of information repetition that I thought could be cut back on.

I give Moonlight and Midtown 3 Stars.

Moonlight and Midtown was a fun, lighthearted read. Overall, the story is mostly fluff, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

However, I was rather confused as I read through it, because the story didn’t match the synopsis. There certainly weren’t any “mysterious strangers…following Bry across Manhattan.” NOTE: The Goodreads synopsis isn't correct, I'm referring to the synopsis on Amazon.

I also feel as though I got cheated out of an important part of the story at the end. I won’t share any spoilers, but I wish the book had continued for another half hour or so of story time.

In general, though, Moonlight and Midtown was enjoyable.

This is more novella length than novel. It's Very short. The heroine just learned she's a werewolf with all three kinds of magic this universe has. She's having trouble controlling her wolf which means she has become obsessed with the worry of flashing her naked self at the world. So she's going shopping with her best friend, the fae, in the faery stores, for an indestructible outfit. (Just one? But okay, fine.) She fights with the fae queen she's encountered before, channels her fae magic, and accepts her werewolf boyfriend as her mate. And starts a pack. I guess that's a spoiler. All this before school starts again. Cute, but short. I liked it.

I received this free ARC from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Bry and Elle are on a mission. But as usual, their mission is a bit risky...and dangerous. But that has never stopped these two in the past, so it's no different now.

When things get a bit hairy, though, Bry has to see if she has the ability to get herself out of her situation.

This was a great novella! It gave me just enough of Bry's story that made me want more! But it also satisfied my hunger for this series. I cannot wait for the next book to come, so I can devour that one as well!

Set four weeks after the last book, Bryar Rose is somewhat adjusting to her new form. But being a werewolf is tearing her room, and her wardrobe apart, quite literally. She's been locking herself in her apartment, so she doesn't hurt anyone when she shifts. This book is very short, and satisfied my need to know more about the series well.

A fun fast read.
This story is focused on the inconvenience of transforming into a werewolf and back.
Bryar Rose has to adapt and control her inner wolf that has been dormant by a magic spell.
Her wolf form has shredded all her clothes while transforming, so her best friend Elle takes her to a shopping trip at the fairy stores that sales indestructible garments but the price might be to high.

At the end of book 1, things had to happen before she turned 18, and it ends with her 18th birthday, but at the beginning of book 2 she just turned 17…

Also, this book is much shorter - the high page count comes from aaaaaaallll of the “extras” before and after the actual story. Hoping book 3 gives more story & less vignette.
