If you're looking for an adorable children's book with a unique and charming set of characters, set within a bit of a fantasy world, and full of wonderful life lessons, look no further than Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13 by B. Roman. I downloaded this book shortly before the holidays, but only just found the time to read it last night as I was going through my Kindle Reader.

Alicia, a 10-year-old girl, accompanies her mother to the department store to select a new lamp for

Please read about "Alicia...." in my book's description, and enjoy my latest blog post, "Reaching for the White Light," which explains how the book was inspired. I think there are many "teachable" moments for kids and parents alike, told with a light touch. Reviews most welcome.

Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13, by Barbara Roman, while a children’s book, is simply one of those stories that awakens the imagination and dreams within all of us. Alicia, a young girl, finds herself in a magical place, amidst used and forgotten light bulbs, all of them aspiring to be transformed into stars in the sky. It’s a story about believing in oneself – something we should engender in every child’s mind, and for that matter, every adult too. Well-written, with ...more

Rarely does an uplifting story for children seem equally adequate for adults, but 'Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory Thirteen' touched my heart this holiday season on many levels. As fate would have it, I read it on Christmas Eve and our responsorial psalm in church was about the great light which came upon the Earth, on this day!

But don’t worry, even though it’s about lights and light-bulbs, this isn’t a religious book at all. It’s a story about characters like Flood, Three-way

“And you will be stars today as soon as you believe you are ready.’

Barbara Roman writes children’s books using that name for both ALICIA AND THE LIGHT BULB PEOPLE IN STAR FACTORY 13 and HUBERT IN HEAVEN. For her Young Adult fantasy series THE MOON SINGER TRILOGY and her suspense novel WHATEVER BECAME OF SIN? she opts for the moniker B. Roman. But no matter the multiple nom de plumes, her writing is elegant and rich in visual delights and ideas, in this book brought into very fine focus by

Barbara Roman’s children’s book, “Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13”, is a truly unusual and enchanting little story. I really liked the whole premise of burned out light bulbs going to a magical place to be rejuvenated and remodeled into the very stars that we see in our own sky. What a creative idea! Plus, I feel like it gives a subtle message about the importance of recycling, but without being obvious about it. I really enjoyed the main character, ten-year-old Alicia. I ...more

Walker's Department Store. Alicia (10) was listening to the Christmas carols & admiring all the holiday gifts.
Furniture Dept. Her mother suggested Alice buy a new lamp for her room.
They have personality mother replied.
What happens when light bulbs burn out?
Alicia had to stop to glance at the huge glittery-white Christmas tree that was all decorated with tinsel & ornaments.

Suddenly the Christmas tree turned into a golden door.
Alicia stepped into the elevator as it began to move.

'Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13' by Barbara Roman, illustrated by Vladimir Cebu, is a sweet and heartwarming story about the beauty of getting to know how ideas shape our lives. When Alicia is magically transported from a department store to Star Factory 13, she begins to learn about all of the different light bulbs and their purposes in the grand scheme of life, as well as the night sky. The fact that she nor the lightbulbs can leave until they are "ready" presents the ...more

Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13 by Barbara Roman.

If anyone had ever told me that I would become emotionally attached to a light bulb, I would have laughed out loud. However, after finishing reading the endearing little tale of Alicia and her trip to Star Factory 13 I found myself filling up!

This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of a motley group of disused light bulbs who are undergoing a transitional stage. They need to build up their confidence and believe in

A charming little story suitable for reading to young children or for older children who can read it themselves, perhaps tucked snugly in bed waiting for mother to turn off the lights. The 13th Floor takes on a different meaning when it leads to a magical room in which used lightbulbs prepare themselves to be stars! Alicia chooses her own lamp at last, and it’s a wondrous lamp and a remarkable lamp that any little girl would treasure forever.
This is a Christmas tale by Barbara Roman, a children

What really happens to burned out light bulb? Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13 will captivate the reader in this charming story about the fantastical journey light bulbs take.

Star Factory 13 is a truly magical place; a place where the discarded Light Bulb People go to school to learn to accept themselves for their individual attributes and find the courage to complete their journey. Alicia encourages them and helps them start their journeys, while learning some life lessons

This is a magical, enchanting story I believe would be good for all ages, but especially young teens. It is almost Christmas, Alicia is getting to pick out a lamp for her room when she discovers magic and learns a little about life along the way. The author writes an amazing tale that shines with an interesting story and a few beautiful illustrations that children and those young at heart will find mesmerizing.

Leave Your Failures Behind

A story that teaches how much our negative personal opinion can stunt how well we do today. The goal is to look past our failures and press on, growing from those disappointments.
