This was a nice surprise.
With a generic name like Demon Slayer I expected the worst. However, this creator obviously loves the 90's, and channels a very 90's manga/anime feel. Similar to when I first began reading Yu Yu Hakusho or Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer gives you some fucked up situations but not overly brooding, dark, or moody. So far, this feels like an extremely traditional narrative for this genre.
We start with our poor but honest and hard-working lad. He is in town selling charcoal to buy food for his family; when he returns home they have been horribly murdered by human-eating demons! Sad. He is saved by a passing demon-slayer, who directs him to a grumpy old master on a mountain who will train him to also slay demons. Cue "We Need a Montage" followed by a couple years of training and some tests. Ends in a cliffh ...more

It enrages me that I spend $10 on something I can read in thirty minutes, but that has no bearing on the quality of the work. Some of the artwork is sillier than Goof Troop porn, but I had a good time with this solid demon-slaying manga. Nothing special, but nothing terrible.
I am not totally invested, it was interesting but stuck to a pretty standard form of storyline. I may or may not get around to the next volume.
As the title suggests, Demon Slayer is a painfully generic shonen manga without a single interesting take or idea, told in a very clunky haphazard way. There is no sense of continuity or passing of time (literally months could pass between two panels without any sense of character or story progression), the book is just a scattered set of random events that occur out of nowhere and just because. So this review comes from a perspective who has watched the anime first before the manga. Should you read it even if you've already watched Demon Slayer? Is it worth it?

After watching the first episode of the anime I knew I had to have more of this series and I got super happy seeing there's 26 episodes rather than a mere 13.
Sometime in the course of watching episode 2-3 I knew I'd need to read the manga.
That might not seem like much considering this is Goodreads and all we do here is read
Impressive. Interesting plots and characters. But most importantly, I could see the potential of the series, as in being intriguingly enjoyable, funny and *dramatic.🤞

A very typical shonen manga. Young man faces tragedy, and vows to get revenge. There really isn’t to much in the first volume that will make you go wow. However there is something there. This manga has potential.
A family living in the mountains is attacked by a demon. The only survivor is a young woman who is turning into a demon because she was infected with demon blood. Her brother returns to find the family murdered. He vows to cure his sister and begins his journey towards becoming a demon slayer. There is a lot of sword action, which can be brutal at times, but fans of action comics will enjoy it. Also, the demon lore and the variety of demons is interesting.

3.5 - I’ve seen this around while searching for shonen manga online and probably have had it recommended to me multiple times by a few people. I’ve just recently got around to reading it and I can see why they liked it.
It’s good, just similar to other manga I’ve read. I found it predictable. It’s charming, for sure. I just wish I had came across this earlier in my otaku career. A good description of this would be “bland but trying not be.”

I felt a nostalgic effect especially at Chapter 7. Demon Slayer tells about Tanjiro and her sister Nezuko in order to find out what happens to their family. So touching and my first time I have seen protagonist that was too emotional, respectful and kind like Tanjiro.
Now, I understand why Nezuko has that bamboo in her mouth.

This was... alright? There wasn’t anything amazing in it or anything particularly terrible. There were 2 surprising moments but really that was it.
Nezuko was adorable and Tanjiro was interesting but it was really hard to judge from just this because there’s definitely room for more development which is obviously going to come in the next volumes.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this popular series, and I can see how gripping the first entry is from start to finish. As someone who has never read a manga before, I had no idea what to expect when my friend gifted Demon Slayer to me. It took me some time to get used to reading the book starting at the back and reading from right to left, but that's on me and not the manga itself.

I've already watched the first season of Demon Slayer, but I enjoyed it so much that I really want to revisit it as the manga. I'm so glad I bought this, I love the art style and while it is basically the exact same as the show so far it's been a lot of fun to revisit it.

So, my honest/frank/blunt thoughts on this manga:
I have a very strong love-hate relationship with the story & characters. I love the idea, concept & world in the manga. The characters are very likable, heck I love the demons a lot although they are the antagonists. The way the demons are humanized creates a sense of sympathy that I didn't know I have. Bonus: the art is stunning & the action scenes are amazing.

Oh my gosh, I am so glad I picked up this manga! I was intrigued by images I had seen of the art style so I decided to buy it on a whim. I'm so glad I did! While the story is not necessarily anything new, I like how simple it is. Tanjiro stayed the night in the village down the mountain where he lives, comes home to find his family killed by demons and his only remaining sibling, Nezuko, was turned into one.
