This was a nice surprise.
With a generic name like Demon Slayer I expected the worst. However, this creator obviously loves the 90's, and channels a very 90's manga/anime feel. Similar to when I first began reading Yu Yu Hakusho or Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer gives you some fucked up situations but not overly brooding, dark, or moody. Sure, our main hero gets to witness his whole family murdered and now has to take care of his sister who is now a demon, while learning to become a warrior, a de ...more

So far, this feels like an extremely traditional narrative for this genre.
We start with our poor but honest and hard-working lad. He is in town selling charcoal to buy food for his family; when he returns home they have been horribly murdered by human-eating demons! Sad. He is saved by a passing demon-slayer, who directs him to a grumpy old master on a mountain who will train him to also slay demons. Cue "We Need a Montage" followed by a couple years of training and some tests. Ends in a cliffh ...more

As the title suggests, Demon Slayer is a painfully generic shonen manga without a single interesting take or idea, told in a very clunky haphazard way. There is no sense of continuity or passing of time (literally months could pass between two panels without any sense of character or story progression), the book is just a scattered set of random events that occur out of nowhere and just because. This janky and disjointed style of storytelling also gives the book a bizarre comedic feel despite go

So this review comes from a perspective who has watched the anime first before the manga. Should you read it even if you've already watched Demon Slayer? Is it worth it?
Kimetsu No Yaiba starts great. Volume one sets everything: Tanjirou's mission, expositions about demons and demon slayers, the trainings and final challenges. It is a by-the-book shounen manga that follows all the beats of a tried and tested "coming of age" outline, but done very awesomely by Koyoharu Gotouge.

marked it as to-read

After watching the first episode of the anime I knew I had to have more of this series and I got super happy seeing there's 26 episodes rather than a mere 13.
Sometime in the course of watching episode 2-3 I knew I'd need to read the manga.
That might not seem like much considering this is Goodreads and all we do here is read
A family living in the mountains is attacked by a demon. The only survivor is a young woman who is turning into a demon because she was infected with demon blood. Her brother returns to find the family murdered. He vows to cure his sister and begins his journey towards becoming a demon slayer. There is a lot of sword action, which can be brutal at times, but fans of action comics will enjoy it. Also, the demon lore and the variety of demons is interesting.

On paper, this is the kind of manga I should really like, but for some reason, it just didn't do much for me.
It's the story of a boy whose family is killed by demons and whose sister has been turned into a demon. He runs into a demon slayer who tells him to join their ranks if he wants to find a way to change his sister back.
I think the reason this doesn't speak to me the way I thought it would was the characters. One volume in, nothing makes the characters stand out from any other shounen chara ...more

3.5 - I’ve seen this around while searching for shonen manga online and probably have had it recommended to me multiple times by a few people. I’ve just recently got around to reading it and I can see why they liked it.
It’s good, just similar to other manga I’ve read. I found it predictable. It’s charming, for sure. I just wish I had came across this earlier in my otaku career. A good description of this would be “bland but trying not be.”

I felt a nostalgic effect especially at Chapter 7. Demon Slayer tells about Tanjiro and her sister Nezuko in order to find out what happens to their family. So touching and my first time I have seen protagonist that was too emotional, respectful and kind like Tanjiro.
Now, I understand why Nezuko has that bamboo in her mouth.
On to next chapters.

Kimetsu no Yaiba has a fairly conventional origin story for a demon slayer - Tanjiro's family gets killed by demons, and so he learns to be a demon slayer. This first volume is about his backstory, as a charcoal seller, with his family living at on the mountain and his finding all of them dead when he returns from a trip to the market in the town - with the exception of one of his little sisters, who turns into a demon. Another demon slayer tries to kill her, but seeing him protect her and vice

鬼滅の刃 or Demon Slayer is an interesting book, although it's pretty short. The protagonist, which falls under the category of the protagonist being perceived as being "bad" by everyone. The protagonist struggles with his goal (by a lot of people not trusting him (for him being perceived as being bad).

Everybody and their grandmothers have talked about Demon Slayer the past couple of months, saying how amazing it is. And, up until now, I never had the desire to pick it up. However, I felt like it was finally time to see what all the hype was about. With all the low expectations I had going in, I could not be more impressed with this manga. Shonen manga is this magical space where anything can happen if you try hard enough. It's cool and dandy. And for some reason, I was recently looking into it again, what the genre can offer, since my departure 5 years ago.
Demon Slayer is the "new" top shit ever. It is because the adaptation is stunning and really well made. That is a good thing but I wanted to see the source material and I think that I got what I expected. Overhyped shonen story, which is still good - but the beginning is as alw ...more

This was... alright? There wasn’t anything amazing in it or anything particularly terrible. There were 2 surprising moments but really that was it.
Nezuko was adorable and Tanjiro was interesting but it was really hard to judge from just this because there’s definitely room for more development which is obviously going to come in the next volumes.
The writing style was kind of odd, although I did appreciate that was because it was a translation. Still, the diary-style writing in 2 of the chapters ...more

I’ve been hearing a lot about this popular series, and I can see how gripping the first entry is from start to finish. Young charcoal seller Tanjiro returns home from his job only to tragically find his family slaughtered by the hands of a demon, with his sister Nezuka as the only survivor but her wounds have now made her a demon too. Now his goals are to save his sister and find the demon to avenge his family, and he will go through tremendous training in order to become a “demon slayer”. An am

I'm going to be honest, I'm not sure how to review this so I'll just keep it short.
As someone who has never read a manga before, I had no idea what to expect when my friend gifted Demon Slayer to me. It took me some time to get used to reading the book starting at the back and reading from right to left, but that's on me and not the manga itself.
Like I said, I don't know how to review something like this since I've never read one before. I did like the storyline and art so I'll give it 5 stars. ...more

I've already watched the first season of Demon Slayer, but I enjoyed it so much that I really want to revisit it as the manga. I'm so glad I bought this, I love the art style and while it is basically the exact same as the show so far it's been a lot of fun to revisit it.

So, my honest/frank/blunt thoughts on this manga:
I have a very strong love-hate relationship with the story & characters. I love the idea, concept & world in the manga. The characters are very likable, heck I love the demons a lot although they are the antagonists. The way the demons are humanized creates a sense of sympathy that I didn't know I have. Bonus: the art is stunning & the action scenes are amazing.

Oh my gosh, I am so glad I picked up this manga! I was intrigued by images I had seen of the art style so I decided to buy it on a whim. I'm so glad I did! While the story is not necessarily anything new, I like how simple it is. Tanjiro stayed the night in the village down the mountain where he lives, comes home to find his family killed by demons and his only remaining sibling, Nezuko, was turned into one. I love how the bleak art style enhances the dread and despair in certain scenes, like wh
