After years spent living with her mother and oppressive grandfather in Athens, Ariadne runs away to her father’s home in Corinth, only to discover the perilous secret that destroyed his marriage: though a Greek of

It’s Afshar’s writing style that really bumped my rating up a star. Her rhythm and meter cause her to be several cuts above the standard, homogenized writing of most Christian Fiction authors. Afshar’s beautiful style is so evocative and has a rawness and a depth that strikes right at the core and is rarely parallel in Christian Fiction. From the first sentence I am irretrievably pulled in, no matter the subject, simply because her style itself is so irresis

If you've ever read Francine Rivers' Mark of the Lion trilogy and have ever wanted to read something else like it, this book has the same feel without all the gladiator games. Ancient Corinth/Athens, underhanded Romans, the early church. Skilled writing.

Beautiful. Moving. Fast paced. All the feels. “The Thief of Corinth” by Tessa Afshar is all these things and more! I took two courses specifically on 1 and 2 Corinthians in college, so my heart has a special place for these books of the Bible. Paul is also one of my favorite Bible characters, so I loved reading about him in this book as well! Ms. Afshar truly makes first-century Corinth come alive! She adds so much detail of the setting and time period that I could vividly picture this bustling ...more

Some novels leave you feeling so full you don’t have room for your own words. For real though, if I could I'd fill this review with only quotes from the book but I'll leave it to you guys to explore ;-)

Tessa Afshar has truly written as a masterpiece! In "Thief of Corinth" we experience a journey not only read through one. I wish I could share all my highlights, insights and moments of tears and laughter for with a spunky heroine, there is a promise for this and much more. I'm impressed by this a

Another beautiful novel by Tessa Afshar.

Thief of Corinth has a different feel to it. While I adored the main character's (Ariadne) spunk from the beginning, in other ways she wasn't the most likeable character. She made bad decisions and at times it was difficult to watch. I shouldn't have worried though as Afshar neatly wrapped up Ariadne's story after a change of heart.

There were a number of little things I adored about this novel: both brothers Theo and Dionysius, the four Claudia sisters, so

An unforgettable love story, a brilliantly fresh heroine of agency and athleticism (I know! I know! athleticism from a female in Biblical fiction... could life be better) and impeccable research find perennial favourite Afshar at the top of her game.

The pitch perfect research and heart for the worlds she captures so brilliantly--with their counterbalance of historical verisimilitude and spiritual resonance is heightened here by Afshar's clear enjoyment.

There is a zest of personality that livens

This book. My heart. It might just be part of my new 'everything is emotional' way of life (honestly, I cry over the smallest thing) but this book touched my heart and made me cry more than once. It's a beautiful, beautiful story of redemption and just YES. I've read two other books by Tessa Afshar (Harvest of Rubies and Harvest of Gold) and she's definitely one of my favorite Christian authors. Fans of Christian fiction set during the first century will not be disappointed.

Tessa Afshar has become an author that I one-hundred percent recommend. I hardly have to wonder anymore if I'll love her books; each new one I read is phenomenal. Thief of Corinth was beautiful. It was deeply emotional, as well as an intriguing, adventurous page-turner.

I'm not sure about her older books (the ones set in the Old Testament) because it has been awhile since I've read them, but Tessa's writing style in her three latest novels is wonderful. It's a little different, but masterful and

This was a terrific read from beginning to end. The characters are thoroughly engaging, the plot unique and intriguing, and a simply wonderful novel.

I really enjoyed this read, the tie in with Biblical characters, and the story as a whole. I don’t give spoilers so the best parts you will just have to find out for yourself!

It’s a tremendous read, and readers won’t be disappointed with the twists and turns of this novel.

Afshar is a beautiful storyteller.
LOVED this story! From the first time she walked on the page to her bittersweet “Hopeful-Ever-After” ending, heroine Ariadne grabbed me, and I could do nothing but follow her on this journey :) She reminded me of some special young people in my life and maybe, in a few small ways, of my own history. Powerful storytelling & beautiful writing! So, so good!!!

Thief of Corinth is an exciting, thoughtful, poignant must-read. For me, Ariadne has become my Bible-times Anne of Green Gables or Jo Mar
I won the kindle version in a Goodreads drawing and I purchased the audible version. Tessa Afshar is an excellent Biblical fiction author. I’ve received an additional blessing listening to her books, as I’ve grown even more intimate with our Lord. The narrator was outstanding as well. Looking forward to many more books by this author.

Ok, confession time. I tend to obtain and then horde Christian books for Advent and Lent. I DO try to always have one religious book on my currently reading list, but they tend to get lost amongst all of the secular books. I love Lent and Advent, because it forces me to focus on Christian books.

However, that means that I end up with literally BOXES and lots of eBooks of Christian books, just languishing, waiting for the "proper time", to be read. This author has been on my radar for a while, I e

You know an author is pretty spectacular when she's able to make you really feel for the main character after having read only 16 pages into a book! That's exactly what Afshar did in Thief of Corinth, the author's most recent Biblical fiction release set in the time of the New Testament.

The heroine, Ariadne, is a teen at the beginning of this novel, and Draco is a man her grandfather has arranged for her to marry. Ariadne walks in on Draco right after he had brutally had his way with a slave gir

Thief of Corinth is a read that I just didn't want to put down. The plot never slows. I also like the way Paul's teachings were woven into the story. At the end, I wanted more adventures and for the story to continue on.

I have not read a lot of Biblical Fiction. It isn't my first choice of genre to reach for. I have read a book by Mesu Andrews and Connilyn Cossette and have mixed feelings about the writing. But the Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar's cover looked amazing. Then I read the synopsis and figured it might be something I would enjoy reading. I'm glad that I did. With the Thief of Corinth, I finished the entire novel in one day.

Redemption and Restoration There is a reason that Tessa Afshar is one of my favorite Christian authors. She pens Biblical fiction with consummate skill and keen insight, and “Thief of Corinth” is no exception. The ancient world of first-century Corinth springs to vivid life and offers readers a tour of the culture and people residing there. Despite this antiquated setting, Afshar draws many parallels between Corinth and the modern world. The issue of women’s rights—or acute lack thereof—features ...more

Tessa Afshar's Thief of Corinth is a rich treat. Thought provoking, action-packed, and filled with memorable, well fleshed out characters, Thief of Corinth delivers a fascinating tale of an athletic woman once suppressed by society.
Adrianne flees a brutal engagement (and I do mean brutal) and escapes with her adopted brother/friend Theo to reconnect with a long-lost father, Galenos. There, she discovers her aging father has a terrible secret. He is the Thief of Corinth and he can no longer keep

Thief of Corinth is set in the New Testament and Tessa will transport you back to those days. When reading you will forget you are in the 21st century and be back in Biblical days. You will smell the rich scent (yep good and bad), feel the heat, taste the sand, find yourself fleeing the dangers of our young heroine. The research is rich in history, scenery and even though the story isn't part of the Bible it is set in those times and the plot is rich in plot, characters and I had a hard time set ...more

Tessa Afshar never fails this devoted reader! I devoured Thief of Corinth. The spunky, clever, bright, though-so-damaged-by-life heroine had my heart from page one. Ms. Afshar writes a heroine in which we can all see ourselves, if even just a little. Ariadne leads a life of grand adventure which is actually forced upon her due to circumstances beyond her control. She doesn’t shirk or run from disaster, but bravely attempts to forge from her disasters a stronger, more powerful woman. In the midst ...more

I enjoy books that also teach me about history or society, while I am reading for pleasure. Thief of Corinth certainly fulfills both goals. Neighbors Dionysius, Justus, Theodotus, and Ariadne grew up together as family and neighbors, but with quite different personalities, abilities, interests, and goals. They are bi-lingual, speaking both Greek and Latin because they live in Corinth, a major business city during the early Roman Empire.
Thief of Corinth surprised me at each plot twist. Although

Thief of Corinth by Tessa Afshar is a book that gifted me with entertainment, a message to ponder, and enough tension to keep my attention all the way through. Set in the ancient city of Corinth, Afshar delighted me with witty dialogue, multi-faceted characters, and a sense of adventure. Having read her previous books, I knew I was in for a treat with this one. And while I felt this book carried a more lighthearted tone that the previous ones, I was in no way short changed. In fact, I think the ...more

I loved the adventure in this story. Airadne is so upset with way things are going living with her mother and grandfather she runs away to find her father. The adventures begin when Airadne finds out the secret of her father and why her mother and father are no longer together. Her father she finds out is a thief. Now some light is coming to why her mother is not with her father anymore. Kind of a Robin Hood story. Lot's of adventure and great characters.

I loved this very different book of fiction. This is a very interesting time period. I have never read a book based in Corinth and enjoyed learning a bit about it. I loved the character of Ariadne and how strong she is. It had to be hard to choose to do something different than most other women. I enjoyed her journey of discovery along with all of her friends. I did not want to stop reading this story. I hope to read many more of Tessa Afshar’s books. I received a copy of this book from the auth ...more

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I have read by Tessa Afshar, but Thief of Corinth is my new favorite! Reading this book was like stepping back in time to first-century Corinth, accompanied by Ariadne, a bold young woman who had run away from Athens to her father’s home there.
Set in a time when Christianity was new, this beautifully written story is full of adventure, rich in historical detail, and full of plot twists that made it hard to put down. I especially loved how the Apostle Paul was

Some things haven't changed in two thousand years. Even back then divorce and broken homes caused pain and heartache. I read with deep interest the story of Ariadne. Unhappy in Athens, she runs away from her mother and grandfather to be with her father in Corinth. There she discovers that her father has a secret which caused her parents divorce. It wasn't long until Ariadne was also caught up in a life of crime. Life isn't fulfilling for Ariadne until she meets the Apostle Paul. After she accept ...more
