Book Review by Journalist, Hilarie Stelfox, published in Huddersfield Daily Examiner

"I was hooked from the first few pages – and mightily relieved to discover that it is extraordinarily well written by someone with a finely-tuned sense of humour. In fact, it’s every bit as good as any fiction for the young I’ve read in recent years, including the novels of JK Rowling and Eoin Colfer. As well as being a natural storyteller, Jo never patronises her readers, an attribute that will endear her to tee

Recommends it for: People of all ages with a dark sense of humour, who love a fairy tale
I found this a real page turner; it may be officially YA, for twelve or over – but it is not a book with an appeal restricted to a particular age group, It is laugh-out-loud funny, intriguing and sad in turns.

After a lifetime of reading fantasy novels this one has me so excited. While some of the content seems familiar enough, with faeries, sword fights, love, loss etc etc, it is so refreshingly different in it's execution that I could not stop smiling (or reading!). Jo Danilo weaves a world that you can touch, taste, feel and unfortunately, in the case of Ivor the Innkeeper, smell. You become so entwined in this world that the fate of the main characters and even the sub characters is all consuming. ...more

Recommends it for: everyone
I LOVED this book so much. The characters are fabulous and Jo Danilo's imagination is amazing. She writes beautifully and is a new JK Rowling in the making. This book is every bit as good as the Harry Potters. I love the little notes she puts at the bottom of the pages -- so funny and very witty. Christina is an amazing heroine.

Jo writes stories for Young Adults and Children. Though she considers herself a Yorkshire lass, she now lives in the Far North of New Zealand - decidedly more tropical than the north of England. She likes nothing better than a whole, uninterrupted day of writing, which she generally gets on her birthday. Hurray for birthdays!
