**Read at the author's request. Received a copy of the Kindle version of this novel in exchange for an honest review**

Every so often, a book slides across my desk with a concept that utterly fascinates me. Trevor D'Silva's Fateful Decisions is one of those books. The idea of a book following one person through the inevitable consequences of decisions both large and small... That alone pulled me in. I read the sample to get a feel for the author's writing style, and paused - but the concept, and

I liked “Fateful Decisions”, written by Trevor D’Silva, who I believe is a highly talented and intelligent writer. This historical fiction story begins in 1946 with Rachel and her son anxiously waiting for a soldier returning from the war on ship, then as Rachel waits, she flashes back to 1915 where she is on board the Lusitania just before the torpedo hits it which makes a very exciting start to this very fast moving and intriguing story.

The story takes you through many historical times. Rachel

Get ready to be surprised. Mr. D'Silva took historical facts and wrote a very interesting and true in human nature novel. I don't want to give away any spoilers--so I won't say a lot here. I'm looking forward to his second novel. He has a unique style -- it's refreshing and I think he has a long second career ahead of him. He may be an engineer, but he has an incredible writing ability as well. ...more

"I have a feeling that your life will be in turmoil if you get involved with these men."

Rachel Williams should have listened. She should have turned around, walked away and never looked back. But, there was something endlessly fascinating about those Long Island boys.

It was hard to watch your best friend marry the woman you love. Rudolph "Rudy" Holzmann was so sure that Rachel would choose to marry him, but no. Why would she? Fred Johnson had everything — money, position, hotels. However, Rachel

Fateful Decisions by Trevor D'Silva is a historical novel set against the backdrop of WWI in 1915. The novel explores the ills of the time and readers will be interested to notice the place of women in the early part of the 20th century and social issues resulting from the war. We meet Rachel Williams, a very interesting and charming woman, aboard the RMS Lusitania, bound for England. She meets Fredrick “Fred” Johnson and Rudolph “Rudy” Holzmann, two friends who both take a great interest in her ...more

As I began to read this book seemed to be very plainly written, almost simple. After a few dozen pages I appreciated the writing style and how the different plots of the story were weaving back and forth. A beautiful tapestry was being built before my eyes with glowing threads of joy and dark threads of tragedy skillfully filling the warp and woof.
It is no mystery why this book has won accolades. They are well deserved. I love how the author brought so many important events into the story, it br

I finished! Fateful Decisions follows the life of a woman named Rachel as she survives the sinking of the Lusitania and follows her all the way to the end of WWII. A lot happens in Rachel's life and each event leads to the next with characters lives intersecting and connections made across the many years and countries.

Rachel meets two men on the Lusitania, who end up making different impacts on her life, for good or bad. She ends up marrying one of them and a sequence of events occurs which pul

Great historical fiction with unique tales of Pearl Harbor and France during WW II

I read the 2017 edition of "Fateful Decisions." It is quite a far-flung mystery novel and reminds me of an outline of a James Michener book, "The Source", but about 800 pages shorter. I got a little confused in one part with a lot of characters interacting together, but this was later cleared up at the end as part of the mystery.

My favorite character was the French woman, Catherine, who was part of the French resis

A truly remarkable historical fiction novel. Got caught up in the story from the very word go. The characters are well developed, and the author has done an excellent job of weaving history into fiction. Looking forward to reading more of the author’s novels.

I read Fateful Decisions, at the request of the author, Trevor D'Silva, and I am so glad I did. This sweeping story of two generations covers the life of a young woman, Rachel Williams, who survives the sinking of the Lusitania, then goes on to marry and become the heiress to a hotel empire. Fans of historical fiction will find Rachel’s story completely captivating as she and her children live through major events in history, and as the author takes you through the United States and war-torn Eur ...more
