Simmer (verb): to stew gently below or just at the boiling point; to be in a state of incipient development

My life was always at a simmer… only stewing, never going anywhere. I was left to fend for myself when it came to affection or love, so I learned to go without.

I refused to let them see how broken and lonely I was; it was much easier to hide behind a false reality. I

If there is anyone who should dislike this book, it’s me. We first met Sara in Rewrite, which is one of my favorites, and she made the lives of characters I love quite the challenge. However, Ms. Rose’s talent knows no end, because she quickly won me over and made me fall in love with Sara. Sara’s motivations become clear early on in Simmer, and we see that there is so much more to her hidden below the surface. This book easily became on of my favorites!

I absolutely love books with older heroines, absolutely!
I know so many couples in real life where a woman is older, and it’s beautiful!
I wish we had more books with this trope!

However I have my pet peeves and this one touched one of those.

Sara Caldwell is a 32 yr. old single mom living in New York trying to make ends meet. She works multiple jobs and still struggles to support herself and her daughter Victoria. She grew up not feeling loved by her own family, and now that she has her own child, she wants to give her everything. Victoria was her entire world, so when she gets an opportunity to provide a better life for her she takes it. Her dre
When I was introduced to Sara in Rewrite I wasn’t her biggest fan so I was prepared not to be won over when I started Simmer. Lo and behold I was converted in a matter of no time. Sara, her strength, character and her unconditional love for her daughter Victoria was something I couldn’t help falling in love with. Her doubts and wanting to do right by Victoria and her daughter’s father Josh was relatable and I could easily imagine her struggles cause Stephanie Rose captured and depicted them so b ...more

When I met Sara, the female protagonist, in a previous novel it is an understatement to say that I did not like her at all and I honestly wasn't sure how the author would make me warm to her. I wasn't sure I'd be invested in her living happy-ever-after, but somehow, along the way of this story, she did. The beginning of SIMMER shows Sara's perspective on all the WHYs of her actions from the previous novel, her struggle in life, her care for her daughter. I understood her motivation and saw her s

I was nearly halfway when I realized this was the continuation of Rewrite from the same writer and I had already met the side characters here as the hero & heroine in Rewrite. However, let me tell you that it won't make any difference if you haven't read Rewrite. I just happened to have read it.

I liked this book much more than Rewrite because Rewrite had some of my pet peeves and also I am not very good at loving second chance romances and Rewrite was a second chance romance.

“Numbers don’t matter, not in time or age. What we have is timeless.”

Oh, oh, oh. You guys, I think Simmer is the perfect title for this book. It has raw, real emotion bubbling below the surface—a constant tension, ache, love that cannot be ignored—and then these moments where it just . . . boils over into all the feels.

Which probably explains why I didn’t want to put this book down. I forced myself to at 1:15am, knowing I’d remember it better, experience it better, love it better if my mind was

I’m SMILING and I can’t stop! I’m so BREATHLESS from the DREAMY story I savored! I still feel butterflies buzzing around me from a book that BEGUILED me. Author Stephanie Rose’s latest sensation, SIMMER, is the EPITOME OF ROMANCE, a love story that SWEPT ME AWAY. Simmer is a friends-to-lovers tale—friends on fire—that touches the heart and MELTS EVERYWHERE.

This story picks up where Rewrite left off, following a jaded heroine and her soulmate of a hero who helps her broken parts become whole. Sar

I've heard such great things about this book but I've got to admit I'm struggling

I don't like the h, she's 32 and blushes and fumbles about like an 18 year old
I usually admire single parent h's who've struggled and sacrificed for their child....but this woman had a ONS and got pregnant. The thing is she had an idea if how to get in touch with the guy she just chose not to because she didn't really know him. That's selfish behavior and one of the things that seriously irks me. When

My heart is full! Drew and Sara’s story is so sweet and passionate. This is my first book by Stephanie Rose. The chemistry between the two characters….taking it slow….you can feel it heating from their first meeting and it’s worth the wait. All of the characters in here have a great connection and friendship; I love how they all consider Victoria’s feelings in this parenting circle and large family. Of course, it has some heartbreaking moments but they make the heartwarming ones all the more spe ...more

Simmer is poignant, passionate, and the kind of slow burn that will have you boiling over with excitement as you devour every last word.

It's no secret that I love Stephanie Rose's books. But what I especially love about Simmer is it's a story about redemption. Sara is a dynamic and complex woman and I am so happy that she was given a voice in this book. She is a headstrong single mom who is more driven than she realizes. And with this kind of mentality, comes many challenges ... especially with

5 sweet and savory stars!

From the moment I read the blurb of this book, I knew I was in for a Stephanie Rose classic. Simmer is the perfect concoction of a sweet and savory romance that sizzles off the page.

The instant Sara and Drew are thrust together, he finds a way to bring out the best in her. Even when she's too jaded to see she possesses the qualities that make her the strong, relatable female character she is. Although they are an unlikely pair, this couple compliments each other better

This is a sweet story of redemption. I understood the plot and liked the premise. Older woman, younger man, lots of complications and lots of angst. A friend to lovers story with characters from a prior story......all sounded wonderful.

Drew- While this is Sara’s story, Drew, the younger man, stole the story. His careful and slow courtship, his determination in the face of skittishness, and his constant and abiding love for Sara was perfect. While 7 years younger, he was mature and definitely wi

Audiobook Review

This was such a beautiful and delicious slow burn romance! I had already enjoyed Simmer when it was released on ebook, but listening to it on audio took it to a whole new level! Yes, this is an older woman/younger man romance, but it's also so much more. Sara is a complex character and the book focuses just as much on the romance as it does on Sara's journey of healing and moving on from her past. Drew was everything you hope a book boyfriend will be and could not h

When I read a Stephanie Rose book, I expect a swoony, slightly alpha hero. It's her special talent. She makes the guys in her book completely irresistible. What I wasn't expecting was for her to make me fall completely in love with her heroine.

Yes, Sara has bristly. She has rough edges, she's prickly sometimes. But she has her reasons. She's been hurt a lot, she's been unloved for so long, and she's used to be hurt and left behind. But when you let her icy exterior thaw, she becomes thoughtful,

3.5 stars. This was ok. Nothing terrible but nothing great. I found myself skimming and bored at many parts. The H was v likeable but the h was a bit harder to like, especially for the ridiculous hiccup she caused in the relationship just before they finished school. A mediocre read.

5 "Fire and Ice" Stars!!!!

I want to start off by saying that I've claimed Drew Kostas. He's mine! End for story! Don't come at me because I won't play nice. That man is MINE! So now that we have that cleared up, on to my review.

Simmer was intoxicatingly delicious. It brought so many emotions. Likable characters that had me smiling so hard. With a swoontastic Hero that gave me all the damn heart eyes. And a heroine that had me rooting for her

For those Stephanie Rose fans who have read Rewrite and are positive that Sara can not be redeemed: I implore you to read this with an open mind. Because you will get to know a side of this single mom, who has virtually no one in her life. The struggling introvert, who nevertheless does everything and anything she can to make sure that her daughter is provided for, but more importantly, to let her know that she is LOVED. And then you'll meet the man who shows her that, for the first time in her ...more

Simmer is a sweet second chance romance with a slow burn that leaves you aching for more…

Simmer follows the story of Sara and Drew. We first got a glimpse and taste of Sara in Rewrite. And I’ll be honest with you, I wasn’t 100% sure that she would be able to redeem herself. But, if there is one thing I love, it’s when authors prove

I loved this book and what the essence of it was. A strong woman fighting to give her daughter the very best she could. Sara suffered a huge rejection in her life by the two people who always should be by her side. This is the first time I met Sara as I have not read the book where she was i introduced yet. Apparently, she was not the most lovable person but she is in this book. So obviously she has changed for the best. I also loved the setting in this novel. Sara being in culinary school to be ...more

Chelé-----4 The Love of Books
There's something to be said about an author who can make you love a character that you went in despising. Simmer is about Sara and Drew. If you read Rewrite (which you absolutely SHOULD!) Then you know Sara was kind of a witch......with a b.

I absolutely know why Stephanie named this one "Simmer" because that's exactly what Drew and Sara did. The heat between them was palpable! One of my favorite reading experiences is being in my Stephanie Rose bubble. I completely shut the rest of the world do
Angela's Book Addiction
Simmer by Stephanie Rose is a slow burn, single parent, contemporary romance told in dual POV. The main character, Sara, was introduced in the book Rewrite, and from what I understand other characters from that book reappear in this one as well. Simmer is a standalone, so it's not necessary to have read Rewrite first. In fact, this is the first book I've read by the author, and in no way did I feel like I was missing any prior information.

The story follows 32-year-old, single mother

Simmer is simply a five star read. I was so enthralled with the story from the first page.

Sara’s definitely a flawed person. But it’s her flaws that make her such a relatable character. Her fears, her brokenness, the depths of her love for her daughter are all part of her appeal to this reader.

She’s been kicked out of her home when she turns up pregnant from a one night stand and it’s several years later when her one night stand, Josh finds out she’s given birth to their daug

I was so glad to see Sara get her story told! In Rewrite her character has many flaws, but you know there is a story there. The chip on her shoulder she carried most of Josh and Brianna’a story was created for a reason. And in Simmer we get to look past her hard exterior shell and see this lady for who she is. A mother, a provider, and a chef. But she is also is loyal, loving and a lady who deserves to find happiness. When she lets her guard down she loves deeply. So much so, it scares her. Lovi ...more

This is my first book by Stephanie Rose and I am hooked oh yes I am! Loved this story first of all her determination to rise even when her own family turn their back on her, the struggle to survive and with a child, but what I loved the most is that love is possible even when looks impossible, the fact that he’s younger that her is even better! With Drama enough and the characters that complement at perfection the whole story made this book fantastic!

I’ve read three Stephanie Rose books in the past week: Think Twice, Rewrite and Simmer. I think Simmer was my favorite. The things you do for the ones you love... Sara is a wonderful character and I’m soooooo glad she found Drew. Both needed love, but Sara needed to feel she was worthy. They fulfilled so much in each other. Truly a wonderful read.
