I love the cover of this debut!

In this mystery/suspense/romance novel, I enjoyed the treasure hunt that Kat was on. Although readers don't meet Clayton that set up the treasure hunt, we get to know he was a good man from what hear about him.

The mystery of what contaminated the mountain stream was interesting as well. The romance had some bright spots but mostly fell flat for me.

Overall, a debut that shows a writer with promise ahead.

My gratitude to the author for a complimentary copy of the nov

I very highly recommend this debut novel of Sara L. Foust.
A great read full of twists and turns that will make u want to finish this awesome book!!
She has done a fabulous job of drawing me into the book and making me feel like I was really there!!
I also liked how she put God in the story too.
God didn't leave us. We generally leave Him.
I also noticed that a certain verse from Revelations was used in here. I ran across the same verse in another book and I thought how odd was this?
I enjoyed meeti

Sara Foust's debut novel is a fast-paced romantic suspense novel set in the east Tennessee mountains, a setting the reader will feel immersed in from start to finish. The main characters' slow burn for each other is handled exquisitely. The complications of the plot keep you wanting to find out what happens next and "who done it" in every chapter, and the ending is just and up lifting. Really enjoyed it!

Really enjoyed this story...will be back when I have more time for an in-depth review! And I'm back now...
Callum's Compass by Sara L. Faust is well-plotted and a page-turner. I quickly came to care about Kat Williams and Ryan Jenkins as they struggled with survivor's guilt. Both felt responsible for their loved one's death.

I really enjoyed the treasure hunt aspect of the story and was rooting for Kat when her family dismissed her interest in finding the treasure. Faust did a good job with the tw

It is very hard to believe that this is Sara L. Foust's debut novel.  I have read many a novel by an author who has published scads of books that were not as well written an interesting as this one was.

With a word in the book's description like "gruesome", I did hesitate before reading this book.  I am not a fan of violent books or those that are gory.  I am so glad that I didn't skip over this book.  The genre is certainly Suspense, but the story was not gruesome or gory.  I would consider it t

This debut novel from author, Sara Foust, is an action-packed mystery that tackles issues of loss and loving again. With the help of wildlife officer, Ryan, can she follow the clues left for her, solve the mystery in the woods, and stay out of danger? As the pieces come together, this puzzle looks nothing like e ...more

This is Sara L. Foust's debut novel. I recommend having a box of tissues near by. I have dry eyes & I needed them. I read the book in two sittings.

Kat's brother died as a child and she has always blamed herself & felt like her family blamed her too. When a friend died she is left clues to a treasure. She knows its her friend's way to get her out of the past. Ryan's fiancee was murdered and some way Kat's treasure hunt & clues to the murder merge together. He blames himself for his fiancee's deat

Sara Foust's debut novel was a well written story of suspenseful adventure with a little romance written in. It was hard to believe that this was her first foray into being published. It is a page turner that draws the reader in to the mountains of Tennessee. Her main characters have that certain sizzle that the reader finds intriguing and wanting to see where they will lead us. Don't let the terms 'Gruesome" and "murdered" turn you away. Each facet of the story brings us deeper into the reason ...more

Callum's Compass is exciting and fast paced with surprising plot twists, and just the right amount of romance. The story is set in the Mountains of East Tennessee, and Sara describes the area in a way that made me homesick for the mountains, and made me want to go hiking in the woods and exploring the streams. I loved the characters and the interactions they had with each other, and I really enjoyed the little twists I didn't see coming, that continually surprised me throughout the book. Sara he ...more

When Kat's neighbor dies, he leaves evidence of a treasure hunt along with a disgruntled son. In her job as a wildlife biologist, she stumbles on a drug ring. The story weaves from the present, to the past and the guilt she feels over the death of her brother Callum, to her love with Ryan, another wildlife biologist who must conquer his own demons.

The book has it all: love, mystery, suspense.

For me, even better, it takes place in East Tennessee and I loved seeing the geographical locations near

I thoroughly enjoyed this captivating, well-written book, with themes of “soul-crushing” guilt, blame, struggling to forgive and especially forgiving one’s own self, being freed from the past, and realizing that God does care & love us, “scars and all’. I loved these lines: “God has given each of us different, unique talents according to His will. He gave us different abilities because He knew we would face different struggles, and He loves us enough to equip us well for the tasks He saw coming ...more

Sara Foust's love of God and nature shines through in this inspirational romantic suspense novel. Though this is not my typical genre to read, I found it very enjoyable and fulfilling. Her plot twists and hooked chapter-endings kept me turning pages. Kat and Ryan are likeable characters and easy to relate to. I loved watching their friendship develop into respect and eventually love. I especially liked the spiritual element woven into the story and how the characters grew in their walk with the ...more

Overall: 4.3 stars

Cover: 5 stars
Plot: 5 stars
Suspense-building: 4.8 stars
Romance: 4 stars
Characters: 4 stars
Logic: 3 stars

I couldn’t follow the logic behind the clues. Example: the watch mentions going north; concluded that must be a message that applies to their specific situation. Not sure how they made that conclusion.

Also, the sermon was a paragraph long? It was his first one, but still...

This book had me hooked from page 1. It was full of adventure, suspense, twists and turns, and a little bit of romance. As I started to read this book I just had to keep reading to see what was going to happen next. I wish I could have stayed up all night to read this book from cover to cover! What a great story! Callum’s Compass explores forgiveness from both sides - forgiving yourself, and forgiving those who have wronged or hurt you. Kat and Ryan had me hooked from the beginning, and the growth they exhibited as the book progressed was a delight. Action, romance, and all that you could want in a good novel is found in Callum’s Compass!

showing the problems they were dealing with and their faith in God. The ending brought the story to a very good ending.

How difficult it must be to recover when a tragedy strikes in a family! This story included murder, death, adventure, a bit of fantasy, friendship, romance and danger in it. I liked the main characters - Kat and Ryan very much and I thought Clayton was a wonderful friend to Kat. I would like to read more books by this author.

A very entertaining read

I really enjoyed this storyline. The only reason for the four stars was that I felt it was a little stilted in places, almost disjointed, but I think overall, it was a very good book, and I would read more from this author!

This story sucked me in and I had trouble putting it down. I only gave it four stars because I never figured out why they couldn't go to the police half the time. And her story of how she was saved was missing several important parts, which disappointed me.

The journey Sara L. Faust took me on in East Tennessee Mountains was a remarkable journey filled with highs and lows. Kat and Ryan’s connection throughout this tale gave way to unexpected twists and turns in the present and into their past hurts of losing someone dear. Callus, Kat’s brother, had a compass that Kat had kept which was instrumental for Kat to stay focus on the task before her with moments of intense action that could cost her life from someone who was seeking revenge. Faust wrote a ...more

A hit from Sara Foust!

Kat Williams’ best friend and neighbor passed away, but not before leaving her a “treasure map.” She opened up to very few people, but her elderly neighbor had been one person she could trust.

As Kat starts searching for the “treasure” she encounters multiple incidents and threats on her life. She also encounters a young wildlife agent, Ryan Jenkins, who is investigating some strange happenings.

Kat and Ryan have more than just their investigations in common. Kat had lost he

This debut novel pulled me in from the first page and the story moves along at a fast pace. The unique storyline of this romantic suspense is interesting and had me turning pages and not wanting to lay the book down. The characters are complex and I especially find the hero, Ryan, to be very appealing, though he does have his secrets and regrets. There are a couple of places where the story was a little hard to follow and the writing needs to be smoothed out, but it isn’t enough to be totally di ...more
