A little ice cream truck tells the reader about his day as his driver Lou takes him all over the city to deliver ice cream to happy children. With a fun and simple rhyme scheme and great pictures this book appeals to both toddler and preschool age children. The binding is sturdy and the heavy pages will stand up to some serious use by a library audience. Each page begins the new rhyme again with the same refrain “I’m a Little Ice Cream Truck” which is perfect to encourage participation in both l ...more

I read this for my ice cream/summer storytime this week. I like how the book fits well with the tune "I'm a Little Teapot" as then the book can be sung. I also like that the ice cream truck got to go so many places and there's diverse representation in people. However, the book is a little long, especially if the idea is to sing it aloud. It may be tedious for some readers to sit through it.

For: fans of ice cream; readers looking for a book they can sing.

Possible red flags: some readers may find

This is a durable picture book. The pages are heavier than a regular picture book, but not like a board book. Big colorful pictures, and lots of things to point at. Every page starts with "I'm a little ice Cream truck" and the rhymes are short and obvious. This i

This book tells the tale of what an ice cream truck does and where it goes. The pictures are diverse and bright and beautiful. The text rhymes and could easily be sung to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot." It's a great group read aloud, although it gets a little long so paper clipping a few pages together many not be a bad idea for your younger audiences. ...more

It is great to see how the owner of an ice cream truck makes the most of his job choice. The book is full of suggestions as to how the owner of the truck makes money and brings joy to so many people including himself. The truck is colorful and the story relates to how many places the ice cream truck can go to make people happy.

A fun little book that is the perfect length, size, and tone for my 1-3 year-olds in playtime. The sing-songy rhyme scheme is cute but not obnoxious; illustrations are large and colorful; narrative is simple, brief, and fun.

Very cute book that is fun to read out loud and to look at. My 3 year old enjoyed the diversity of ice cream treats portrayed and I enjoyed the diversity of people throughout; we both liked the color scheme.

Fans of transportation books and ice cream trucks will LOVE this. I shuddered the entire time I read this far too long book (seriously, cut it by 5 pages at least!). It's super cute, but horrendous. My 3-year-old would love this, but I was secretly appalled.

I like this book, perhaps because of the ice cream. And perhaps its jingly tune. We would always order ice cream fudge on the endpapers because it was sort of our tradition, except for the board book that we got. The only one that doesn't have that is the board book one. ...more
