The plot thickens... More details are revealed about the conspiracies and the conspirators. Anirudhar has more prominence in this book and we get to see what his role is in all of this. We also get to learn more about Vanathi and her motivations. I must say though, if we're comparing Vanathi and Poonkuzhali, I would most definitely be on Team Poonkuzhali 100% of the time. There were, however, a few translating errors (grammar, typo, etc) which should have been weeded out with proper editing. The ...more

Ponniyin Selvan 3 ( கொலை வாள்) is one awesome journey which ended too soon, but happy that I am left with two more books of the Ponniyin Selvan series.
ArulMozhivarmar is people's King and that is what Kalki tries to convey, through a  storyline which ends up in a rumour that the Chola  Prince Arulmozhi is dead even before he became the King. Even when Aadita Karikala was the crowned Prince, how much was Arulmozhi loved by the people and was hated by those who wanted to seize the Chola Throne is

Ponniyin Selvan Part - 3

I have loved this series. The third book in Kalkii's exciting Ponniyin selvan series, The Killer Sword reveals aspects of the characters which have not been seen before. Again it made me to grab the next part of the book. Too good narrations.. Ponniyin Selvan (Arul mozhi) is the perfect example of how the leader should be. Its really unbelievable how the author has maintained the suspense throughout the book. Awesome.. It is no easy joke to write a story chapter by chapte

What an epic book... such an amazing journey like other books of this series. So many new conspiracy and counter conspiracy.
It is definitely a page turner and if you have interest in history then you will find it very difficult to put it down. The author gives you vivid description of the ancient Tamil nation, politics and culture. Its really unbelievable how the author has maintained the suspense throughout the book. The book has an excellent and interesting story-line and has strong and well

The third part takes you deeper into the complicated plot that follows our heroes on their adventure. Lot of plot lines converge and new characters introduced (and how!).

Mighty coincidences that seem to suggest the other characters also seem to recognize that our hero (a brave messenger) is the actual hero of the book and confide in him. Vandhiyathevan and Nambi become spies. Romance blooms and the depth of the characters come to the fore.

Somewhat slower and more reliance on good fortune in thi

Fantastic - my favourite book in the series so far. The plot itself does not move forward as much in this one, but it's much more layered with a terrific mix of character evolution, humour and sub-plots. ...more

What a book it is... such a wonderful journey like other books of the story. But as usual this book has definitely new conspiracy and counter conspiracy and anti conspiracy. The story is definitely taking some shape. Enjoyed reading it.

But it is a quick read, I completed this book in 2 days.

Just finished the Ponniyin Selvan series. Phew! what a series! 2000+ pages 😓about the Chola dynasty. Amazing writing and the story is full of intrigue and mystery. If the translation is this good, I wonder how good the Tamil literature would be. The description of the places is literally so good, I am really hoping to travel to Tanjore and Sri Lanka and the complete route. The character building and the world building is excellent literally makes you time travel. My favourite character is the fl ...more

This book that this novel definitely deserves the credit of being magnum opus in Tamil literature. I was addicted to this book of series since it was entertaining, engrossing and styled adeptly glamorizing a variety of suspense and mystery. It reflects the history lively with flavored romanticism and portraying the required virtues of the Chozha Emperors that are to be followed by the leaders of our land at present and in future as well.

I've been listening to an abridged version of the series in Tamizh while also reading the English translation. While I absolutely loved Book 3, I'm knocking a star off for the borderline ostentatious writing in this translation. The story is dramatic enough without the prose trying to be unnecessarily extravagant and distracting. ...more

Completed reading 3rd part in one day . Though I am a slow reader, completed first three parts just in four days which I never did for any other books. Each chapter urges to go next, could not give rest to eyes. When eyes are closed still I am living in Chola period. This book should be banned, made me like a addict. Trying to give a break before starting next part, hopefully.

It is a beautiful novel, on the Chola empire of Tamilnadu. Set in 10th century, in the green lush and beautiful lands of Thanjavu, Kodiyakkarai and Srilanka; this is a wonderfully written story. Has a lot of characters and each sketch is beautiful and perfect. The story line has many twists and turns. Hard to keep it down, once you start reading it.

Despite the coincidences adding up (rather multiplying improbabilities) in order to drive the action, the core plot of royal/family intrigue and (mostly) realistic relationships between characters still keeps the novel interesting and engaging.

Plots are slowly converging. Female characters have a lot of prominence in this book.
The love and admiration people have for ponniyin Selvan is beautifully captured.
Looking forward to the next 2 books in the series

Even translated this whole series of Ponniyan Selvan gets a 4.5 for plot, odd & diverse character development, and a sense of humor throughout! This is a -- in occidental comparison a chivalrous romance novel a la style de Dumas, but is set in the 10-11th century Southern India and has all the components of court/country intrigue, interior heart plots of vengeance and love, and lush scenery -- novel by Kalki a 20th century master of story telling & reformer of identity for Tamil Nadu & Tamils af ...more
