Danielle Edwards, heir to the impassioned family business, Edwards Auto, a comprehensive auto facility that does it all and one of the largest auto wholesalers in the U.S., is trying to sort out her life after the deaths of her father, mother, and grandmother in a mysterious plane wreck. Her father, Jacob Edwards, the U.S. Coast Guard hero known as "The Commander" among Coast Guardsmen, and the "Hero of Cozumel" in Mexico, was the target of an early assassination attempt during a pirate attack incident near Cozumel years before. Things don't add up for Jacob's Kings Point Academy roommate, Charles Yeager, who is now the Deputy Director of the FBI in Philadelphia. His search takes him on a hunt for an ominous Russian assassin known as "The Chameleon." Little does the Edwards family know that they have become the target of a syndicated crime king pin who wants something from them that they won't give him and he plans to take it from them. The Good Fight offers a fantastic mix of action, intrigue, syndicated crime, family relations, and romance involving the Coast Guard, FBI, Mexican law enforcement, cartels, smugglers, automobile auction wholesalers, dance teachers, and martial artists.

About the author

Born in Sheridan Wyoming in 1962 near the rustic Big Horn mountain range , to Carl and Helen Hendrickson. Dan went to school in the Sheridan School District graduating from Sheridan High School in 1981. He was an avid participator in boxing, martial arts, wrestling and a little track. His father Carl owned a small eight lane bowling alley that he ran until Dan was 12 years old. Carl also had a masters degree in English and loved to write poetry and plays. Dan picked up on his fathers love for the written word and enrolled in Casper Community College in 1982 majoring in journalism. Although he found that he had an aptitude for investigative reporting he decided that his desires lied in other areas. He went on to do much volunteer Christian ministry work throughout the United States most of his adult life and continues to pursue those endeavors to this day. During that time he gained another degree in Practical Theology and throughout his many ministry assignments worked several secular jobs. Some of his work experience led him to being in law enforcement, security, emergency medical technician, and fire fighting. He also helped run a Martial Arts School where he was a senior instructor. Most notable of his work experience is his auto detailing endeavors. He and his wife Cheryl have owned three different detailing businesses throughout the country the last of which they still run to this day.

The Good Fight by Dan E. Hendrickson is the first novel of a planned trilogy titled the Last Enemy Series, centred around the exploits of the Edwards family. Commander Jacob Edwards, although a Coast Guard hero, was forced to retire after he killed a notorious pirate off the Mexican/US Coast. Commander Edwards had planned all along to leave the Coast Guard and help out in the family business, run by his father Jim, one of the largest vehicle wholesale auction firms in America. After Jacob, his wife and his mother are all tragically killed in a plane crash his daughter Danielle seeks solace and comfort from her maternal grandparents in Texas. What none of the family realises is that nothing in their lives is coincidence. Jim Edwards and his family have been targeted from the beginning by an evil, criminal who seeks to become the biggest money launderer in the US. So begins this fast-paced thriller as Danielle seeks to put the past behind her and start again.

As a debut novel, I found The Good Fight to be an action-packed, explosive adventure, which bodes well for the full series. Like all new authors Dan E. Hendrickson still has things to learn regarding sentence structure, tense and dialogue, but that doesn’t detract from an interesting premise, a twisting plot and some excellent action sequences. Although I figured out the final twist fairly early on, the read was still enjoyable and the authors writing style encouraged a fast read. The characters were a little overdrawn perhaps, especially Jacob Edwards who came across somewhere between Captain America and Superman. That having been said, Danielle, as a lead female character was strong, independent and very tough, but still retained her femininity, which is a credit to the author. I suspect the second and third instalments of this tale will be just as interesting and exciting. It will be fascinating to watch the development of Hendrickson as a writer through the next two sequels. A good start to what promises to be an exciting series.

Fairly well written

I enjoyed the quick pace of the beginning of the book. There were a couple characters near the middle that seemed similar to each other and confused me for a second but sorted itself out in the end. Good job.

The Good Fight was a slow to start book. Once I got to the action I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It took a little time to get into this book. I would recommend it to someone who likes to read gradual action.
