I, Ninfa Artemis: Her Autobiography

Rate this book
The book is entitled “I, Ninfa Artemis”. The story is true. It’s a captivating hypnotic heroic novel. Writing is in my soul and sets me free. My name is Ninfa Artemis (from Portugal). Ninfa is a Portuguese word and means nymph. The book is already finished and translated to English. I hired a Portuguese-American translator from New York City. She has an English degree and bachelor’s in Theater. I’m truly happy when I write, including at this very moment as I type these words to you. My motto in life is: “Where there is a will, there is a way”. The book is mainly based on this. The novel is set in Portugal and London. It involves music (since I’m also a singer and songwriter), psychics, prophecies, love, betrayal, forgiveness (even of those who knew exactly the harm they were inflicting), disappointments, challenges, heartaches, obsessions, hopes and the ways I found to get through, no matter how impossible it seemed. Usually you are a famous singer first, then you write your book telling your story.... First, I will tell my story. The book has five chapters. P.S. Chapter 5 (has poems) refers to a time before I knew I would one day record my own songs (which only happened in 2004). In 2000, in the midst of my heartache, I found an anchor to remain alive by writing poems. None of them rhyme. The feelings they conjure also don’t rhyme with a calm mind. From the deepness of the void that my heart fell into, to my strong spirit of survival that led me to an unknown battlefield, these poems build an amazing story. Simple words, deep meanings and a strong print out of the soul.

I'd rather forget everything I saw or read. I know just about anybody can get published anymore. This "book" was..what?? don't know who might like this, A book of drivel with riveting poems/writing like this: “I had a coffee, I’m unbearable, I forgot that caffeine affects me, It’s night, Dawn, The caffeine keeps me awake, What should I do to entertain myself?!”

amazing stuff eh?

Fast Forward OMG

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway.

For me “I, Ninfa Artemis” was a very refreshing reading experience. The book feels alive and kind of artistic.

Why, you might ask. First, the chapters are not chronological. Then, we don’t find the same writing style throughout the book. The author uses the first person perspective, dialogues and mails to express herself. Even though the book has more than 500 pages, the changes in style keep it interesting. For instance, during the telephone call with a friend the author talks about her experience, sometimes there are follow up questions from the friend, then out of the blue they talk about what they are eating/drinking at the moment, then they drift off to topics such as religion. I really liked that.

The way the book is written makes it easier to relate to the author. I learned from the book that it is up to everyone themselves how best to explore their live to the fullest. The author saw that and decided she wanted more from her life than what she had already achieved. She talks about the ups and downs of her becoming an artist, what else she still would like to achieve and what she has achieved so far.

In the book we find her poems (though not all of them made it into the book, if I understood it correctly) and explanations for her songs. If you want to know more, look up her name on the internet. You can find her music on youtube. She has a very pleasant and powerful voice.

I won this book and decided to take it with me on vacation expecting to be a good read. With a description like "It’s a captivating hypnotic heroic novel" I was looking forward to sinking into a good book while on my flights. Instead of finding a captivating and hypnotic novel, I found a book about nothing, constant repeating herself about nothing. Her attempts at a recording career, her bizarre rants about nothing and emails to a semi-famous Portugese singer again about nothing.

I kept reading hoping to find some substance to this book but sadly I read it through only to wonder...what the heck did I just waste my time on? Thankfully I brought a second book along to read on the flights back home.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway, this is my tiny review

I really tried to get into it, I really tried. I decided to start reading this during my birthday weekend (last weekend) and then again throughout this week. Every time I tried to just throw myself in I would get distracted. It wasn't enough to hold my attention.

I can see how someone else might like it, it just wasn't my thing. I'm putting it in my DNF pile and moving on

A strange book and the style in which it is written is a little difficult to follow. I found it hard to read and disjointed. Ninfa sounds like and interesting woman with a great urge to succeed in the music world. She didn't seem to have a lot of faith in herself and those she came into contact with but she always kept trying. I'm really not into poetry so I find her poems very odd.

This book was interesting to me because of the candid look at the culture of her world through her eyes. I have been to both Portugal and he United Kingdom and I am always curious about the everyday lives of the society of the places I visit. It was a candid look into her life.

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway and I wish that I had anything positive to say about it.

It took me forever to read, and seemed a bit worse every time I picked it back up.

I don't know what was going on here, but I'm definitely not about it at all.

Hotel Artemis, despite a kind of shrug of a plot, has character - and characters - to spare, and though much of it is an affectation, it's too fun write it all off as "steampunk." I would have been happier with the book since my time is limited and my Kindle is old.
