This is the book I have been waiting most of my life for!

I watched The Lost Boys at a very influential age and it basically influenced, well, practically everything about me! I got into horror, I started growing my hair and listening to rock, I started following actors' careers more closely, I became OBSESSED with vampires and sought out every comic, novel and movie I could lay my hands on. The Lost Boys is easily my favourite movie of all time. Cool, funny, entertaining, horrific and downright just plain ol' FUN!

Whilst a moderate hit upon release, the film didn't start earning Warner Bros the revenue until it arrived on rental VHS. It is now a bonafide cult classic and rightfully so!

So why has it taken 30 years for a single celebration book to be released?

Blade Runner, The Shining, Star Wars, Dune, A Clockwork Orange, etc, numerous books have been released celebrating those cult classics but for our 'Boys', nothing, nada, zip.

Till now.

With this timely 30th anniversary release, Paul Davis' Lost In The Shadows is simultaneously a Making Of and a celebration tome worthy of adoration!

With BRAND NEW extensive interviews with the surviving cast and crew (conducted by the author himself) and over 400 never-before-seen photos, artwork, promotional material, make up tests and design sketches, this is mandatory reading for any casual fan and for the obsessives among us, absolutely ESSENTIAL READING!

From the exceptional front cover art (commissioned exclusively for this book) and high quality glossy pages to the gorgeous graphic design and awesome photos within, this book could be THE most prized book in my possession.

The Lost Boys is one of my all-time favourite movies so I really enjoyed reading about the cast and crews experiences while making this cult classic. I now have an even greater appreciation of it and will view it in a different way the next time I watch it (and that will be soon).

Probably the most expensive book I’ve EVER bought! EVER!!! Thanks to you - seller on Ebay. I’m sure your wallet was VERY happy that I bought this from you…

Anyhow, was the book worth the high price? If you’re a fan of vampires, movie-makeup, movie-making or, well… The Lost Boys, then yes. It is.

It really goes through the process of how a movie is made from the absolute start where the first screenwriters get the first idea up until the finished movie.

The fact that this is written before many of those involved in the movie died, the amount of interviews is down right AMAZING! This writer has gotten a hold of pretty much everyone. And it seems as if all of them had good memories from working on this movie. (Except the scene where they hang upside down… or the contact lenses made of glass… If you’ve seen the movie, you know.)

So the writing was very good. I think I just caught one typo (despite english not being my first language), which is pretty good from a book like this I’d say. And the amount of photos in full colour is just staggering. There never was a behind the scenes vid for The Lost Boys (a damn shame!), but this is even better. Because I can just sit and study every single detail in every photo! (Did you know the buttons on the vampire David’s coat are not buttons but watchfaces?)

There are just so many little details that they put in this movie, everything having a thought behind it, and…. I never knew.

I just fell in love with this story with the really REALLY sexy cool vampires that were also scary as F. I guess all the work and detail everyone put into it created this soul the movie has. Pretty much everyone in the book praises Joel Schumacher, the director. But I’d say if it hadn’t been this particular group of people working with the movie, if just one had been missing? It wouldn’t have been the cult-classic it is today.

And now if you’ll excuse me… I have a movie to watch.

Cry, little sister (Thou shall not fall)
Come, come to your brother (Thou shall not die)
Unchain me, sister (Thou shall not fear)
Love is with your brother (Thou shall not kill)

Perfect if you're either a big horror fan, interested in how films are made, or obviously a fan of the movie. I wish there were a bit juicer stories but it was a solid making of.

I have been a massive fan of the movie "The Lost Boys" since I was 13 years old in 1987 and first saw this movie at a theater on Catalina Island. The movie was amazing and has been one of my all-time favorite movies since that time. When I heard about this book a few years, I so wanted to get a copy, but it sold out super fast. Happily for the movie's 35th anniversary, a paperback version has been released. I immediately got into a bidding war on eBay to get a copy of this book as it seems to be a United Kingdom publication and doesn't seem widely available in the United States. I was beyond thrilled I won and I've absolutely devoured the book.

I wanted to give this book 5 stars because of the great interviews from a wide range of people who made and starred in this movie and page after page of never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photographs, but all the typos drove me nuts. There were words incorrectly spelled, an overabundance of commas and semi-colons, omitted words in sentences, and extra words in sentences. I so wish there had been a better editing job done. That being said, I learned so much about the making of this movie I've loved since I was a teenager. I loved hearing from all of the actors including those who sadly passed away within the last few years. The only person I missed hearing from was Dianne Wiest. I wish she had participated in this book.

Overall, I'm happy to finally own this book. It will have a special place on my bookshelf and in my "The Lost Boys" collection.

Instant favorite.
This was a surprisingly great book. Especially if you're a fan of fashion, design, writing, vampires, horror, or of the 80s, this book had a bit of everything.

I learned so much about The Lost Boys and then I had to immediately rewatch the movie. And I was able to notice some of the details that I hadn't paid attention to before. It solidified my appreciation and everything it inspired that came afterwards.

This was a fantastic scrapbook for a fan and it deserves a full review, but will have to wait until I have the time.

Small rambles before I forget:

I wish they would do a reprint. Honestly, I believe that if they did & then sold them at any large fan gathering (like Dragoncon or Monster-con) those copies would sell like pizza!

I'm so happy that I managed to snag one—still was ridiculously expensive for a paperback but considering it's out of print, the price for the information was worth it.
