Wow! I was hooked from the start. Telling this tale from different POV's worked really well for me.
It's dated in the 11th century in Ireland. And it is well-researched.

It's about Ronan and his family and the happiness and disasters they all encounter in a short period of time. A moving story.

I would like to thank Jason Donoghue for sending me a free copy. My opinion is my own and unbiased.

3.5 stars round up (4 for originality).
I'd love this to be an audiobook. But my local library had only paperback.

One thing for sure, the idea of the book is quite original. Good approach to see the family dynamics through the eyes of each family member, at the same time letting the events flow.
It was a short and enjoyable read. If some explicit scenes weren't there it would have been a good book for young readers (say, 12+).
I would have loved if there was a bit more insight into historical con

This short book works well on three levels. First, we learn that parents should not give a child an untrained young pony. Second, we see an account of a historical period of great change leading to the formation of a Norman Ireland. Third, we explore the concepts of love, loss and loyalty, with survival the elusive desired outcome.

I admire the depth of research that has gone in to making the life of centuries ago seem everyday. For a further perspective I recommend Morgan Llywelyn's Strongbow a

I enjoyed this novel set in historic Ireland. It is an easy read and the pages just flowed by. The characters are quite believable and I wanted to take sides hoping my favourite would eventually succeed . I would say, give it a go you probably enjoy it as well.

I felt like the synopsis presented me expectations of a grand adventure full of strife and pitfalls. I felt like I got quick blurbs similar to what you would read in a child's reading test. I really was excited to read this book (reading about it, it seemed like everything I love in a book), but I just can't say that I enjoyed it. The character chapters felt as though they repeated the same section of story with very little new information. I felt as if the whole telling was rushed, not very det ...more

An interesting short story, written by an amateur writer. A bit too much sex for my tasting but nevertheless a nice plot and an unusual writing style.

3.5 I liked the way the classic story of of the re-taking of Leinster with the help of Strongbow from the view of the defeated, but had trouble involving myself with the characters.
