Don’t hate me for this guys…

….but this is a review of an unfinished book. I know, I know…it’s all very dismal.

I am forgoing my own synopsis of this book for my review, as the plot above gives all the information that is needed to read this story. Though I did not end up finishing this book, it doesn’t mean it’s the most terrible thing that has ever hit a book

This captivating YA novel gives us angels, demons, and even a half angel/half human Nephilim from the Book of Genesis. The action begins immediately in the prologue with a car fire that takes the lives of little Grace Fortune’s parents, and continues in chapter one when gunfire erupts in the high school cafeteria as Grace is celebrating her sixteenth birthday. Unlike some of her classmates, Grace is once again spared from death with the help of her guardian angel and tall, handsome Jared, the sc ...more

I’m not sure where to start with this one. A fantastic concept I’m a sucker of grey areas and fallen angels so the concept hooked me right away. The problem I had was the way it was written. I couldn’t really connect with the characters so it was hard to care about what happened to them and the story was just a little too fast paced and unrealistic in the interactions and reactions of the characters at times. There was just something missing with the story and characters for me.

Gina Detwiler’s distinguishes herself as she captures the mystique of spiritual warfare. Forlorn isn’t just a coming of age novel as Grace Fortune chooses which path she travels. She is unique as she knows the song of the angels and hears the voice of her Guardian. Jared Lorn introduces her to a world of demons and angels. She sees the results of these heavenly creatures, but cannot see them. She is already on the demons’ radar when she steps out without listening to those who can see both world ...more

This is not your typical fallen angel love story. Yes it does have to deal with fallen angels and teen love, but it also has a really nice christianity side added into it as well. When I first started reading the book I was a little confused about who was speaking because the chapters switch between the main character Grace and her guardian angel. But once I figured out who was talking it was great! I really enjoyed this book and the main character Grace definitely surprised me with how compassi ...more

Grace Fortune lives with her aunt and uncle in Buffalo, New York, and attends The Buffalo Arts Academy. She's got her group of friends and then walks in Jared Lorn.

"He was looking right at me, his eyes like lasers. I think I stopped breathing. There was something behind those eyes, something unnerving, as if he knew things about me that he shouldn't know or didn't want to know. Then he looked away."

Grace and her school are attacked by a fellow classmate. "We are taken completely by

Gina Detwiler is a new author to me, and I was looking forward to reading and reviewing her books since I got the opportunity to do so.

There is a passage in Genesis that talks about the sons of God coming into the daughters of men and children were borne of those unions. Much has been theorized and said about what that could mean. Many Bible scholars believe it was angels who were the sons of God. This author took that approach, and is not the first to come up with bein

Grace has had a lot of bad luck so far in her 17 years, but little does she know that she has a guardian angel who has been saving her over and over. And it all started when she was in a car accident with her parents. Grace was the only survivor, and there was no humanly way she should have survived that accident.

Now, she has just survived another incident when a student comes to school with a gun and starts shooti

This story is about a girl named Grace, who learns that a boy at her school is a Nephilim when he stops a former student from killing lots of kids with a gun. Grace’s life is turned on its head as she tries to cope with the reality of angels and demons being real. Her guardian angel does his best to protect her when things get more and more dangerous.
This is one of those stories that is hard to define. There is a lot of religion in this book, but its not what I would call religious. There

I was very intrigued by the idea of this book. It was classified as "YA Christian Fantasy". That's a new one for me. I wasn't sure what to expect. Most of the "Christian" fiction I have read has been incredibly preachy. This... Was not. This was actually very enjoyable! In a nutshell- half demon (or, rather, fallen angel) boy falls in love with mortal girl and they decide to kill his dad to break the curse of his birth. There is lots of praying, lots of angels and demons and talk of God's will, ...more
How I adored reading about the angels and Nephilim along with the humans and demons in this book!! When Grace spared from death again in high school this time, it's with the help of her guardian angel and the delightfully tall, handsome Jared, school’s mysterious loner.

Grace then learns who she's really dealing with: Jared, the 150-year-old child of a fallen angel, cursed by God. They then continue on the roller coaster that tests their friendship, love, and romance as they are put in danger, h

Overall, I really liked this book. I enjoy well-written paranormal romances, and this one is no exception. There was a good balance between the building of the relationships and advancing the overall story. The details given to set the scene were well thought out, giving enough to picture the scene without distracting the reader with too many details.

The main negatives in my opinion were s

With a name of Grace Fortune, you would think that she has luck and is a graceful example of beauty. But Grace is pursued by bad luck where ever she goes, an orphan, a school shooting survivor, and so on. Grace catches the attention of her secret crush, Jared Lorn, but she could never have foreseen the world he will introduce her to. A hybrid angel/demon, Jared is older than he looks and strives to protect Grace from the demons she unknowingly attracts. Together Jared and Grace set out to confro ...more

Angels and demons. A supernatural mystery

This is a great storyline with angels, demons, guardian angels, and even a nephilim which is a half human half angel spawn. As the story starts, Grace is sixteen years old and in an arts academy with her group of friends and a love of music. Derrick takes revenge in the form of being a school shooter and grace sings to distract him then he is killed by the mysterious Jared Lorn. This story is fast paced and well written with a cast of good characters th

I won this YA book from a GoodReads giveaway and I thought it had a interesting and fun storyline filled with Angels, Demons and half human/half angel beings. The characters are well represented and they take you on a captivating adventure that has you turning the page until the end! The author kinda of wrapped it up really quick at the end....lots going on that I honestly could have used a few more chapters to really get into the exciting ending. Overall thought, I would highly recommend this b ...more

One part supernatural thriller, one part YA romance, Forlorn tells a solid and satisfying story of the tragic problems of young people, presenting solutions in a religious manner that works with the story's world and feels more a part of a great war than heavy handed pandering.

Thrilling adventure story of a teenage girl and the spiritual battle the angels and demons have over her and her friends. This book may have been written for teens, but as an adult, I loved it. Excellent book!

If you're into Angels and Demons this is the book for you. This story is about Grace Fortune and Jared Lorn. Grace goes through something tragic when she was very young and if not for her Guardian Angel she would have been dead. As a result of her interaction with her Guardian she is able to hear the Angel's Song. This comes in handy when the school is attacked at lunch time, because of this she gets to know Jared Lorn who turns out to be more than just the hot mysterious guy at school. Together ...more

Meh. I am honestly not sure how I feel about this. I want to like it, and I sort of do… but I also hate it. The writing is well done for a YA (except the characters) and the imagery is beautiful, but the plot and themes are played out, dated, and stale. I do enjoy paranormal romances (mostly Christine Feehan) and so I did have really high hopes for this novel. I am sad to say that I was disappointed and just meh. To be honest it felt a little more like a guide book than an actual work of fiction ...more
