Who would have thought a cover hoe, a starved reader on all things filthy and gritty, a lover of alpha males and taboo stories like me will stumble upon women's fiction and coming of age genre? It has never really occurred to me until I opened our email from Thessa Lim. And I am so glad I did. It was one beautiful journey I get to ride in our beautiful country - Philippines, following a journey of a woman's transition in her personal growth, her relationship with her family and ...more

This is a wonderful story that blossoms the further your read. With stunning background settings. Zara Castillo a very career centred woman and confident travel writer. She puts out to the world a strong independent persona but really nothing is as it first seems.
Matt, her boyfriend is just about the opposite of her as he could get. He is happy with his lot and loves their relationship. Happy to work from the confines of the office and has such a chilled outlook on life in general. But the dista ...more

They're trying hard to hide their relationship, but something forbidden like an office romance couldn't get unnoticed, not with all the prying eyes of everyone they're working with. Zara Castillo found it difficult to balance a lovelife and a career that's just about to take off to greater heights, but she couldn't resist Matt's irresistible charm just the same. A secret weekend getaway in the North, lunches and coffee being taken to the next city outside their office, another field work in the

I really enjoyed Thessa Lim's "Throwing Rules to the Wind (Of Heads & Hearts #2)" even though it's a genre I don't read all the time. I really enjoyed the locale of the book (Manila) and thought it was a great change of pace over cities such as New York or London, and I also liked the two primary characters, Zara Castillo and Matthew Villanueva; they were very believable and realistic. I am going to have to get a copy of "in the Metro" to read as I really enjoy Ms. Lim's writing style. I would r

Initially, I thought that this would just be a plain and simple office romance. And boy I was wrong. And sometimes, it's nice being wrong.
The thing is, this book goes beyond romance. It's about family, friendship, maturity, facing insecurities and growth.
At first, I was not liking Zara at all. I was becoming agitated with all her internal conflicts and issues. I know where she was coming from but there were moments when she was just too much for me. Eventually, as the story progressed, her act ...more

When I first started reading Throwing Rules to the Wind, I thought that this would be solely centered on romance, but boy am I glad that it isn't just about romance! This book encompasses a lot of things, which made me like it even more.
My favorite thing about this book has got to be how Zara turned back to her past not to give excuses nor to wallow herself in self-pity, but to discover herself, learn and grow from all her past mistakes. She did this in order to understand herself, ask for forgi ...more

Title: Throwing Rules To The Wind
Author: Thessa Lim
Release Date: November 17, 2017
ABOUT THE BOOK:
A complicated office romance is not what scrupulous travel writer Zara Castillo has planned for, especially not when her career is finally taking off, but her easygoing colleague Matthew Villanueva is everything she wants in a man. Throwing Rules to the Wind is a hidden gem that you should definitely add to your TBR list A S A P! An intriguing story that captures the beauty of forgiveness, not only for yourself but others as well.
”I’ve just seen enough tragedies to not really believe in happily ever after anymore.”
This book was so much more than what I thought it’d be, and I LOVED that.

I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE AUTHOR IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW.
Throwing Rules to the Wind is the second book in Thessa Lim’s Of Heads and Hearts series which is set here in the Philippines. Although this is a sequel, it can also be read as a stand-alone.
I find office romance stories really enjoyable to read. And even though the intimate relationship between the main characters should be kept a secret, this book did not disappoint.

“You push my boundaries all the time, but there’s a sureness–a constancy about you that draws me in. I’m treading carefully, but you make me want to go full speed ahead.”
When I read on the blurb that this is an ‘office romance’ I thought it would revolve around the whole office flirting and hiding their relationship, but I was wrong. 😳 Family issues, friendship, past relationships, and conquering insecurities were also given a spotlight on this one and I like that. Throwing Rules to the Wind is a delightful sequel to Of Heads and Hearts in the Metro. It is the love story of Zara, one of the four women in the first book. Gripped by a distrust for men as a result of her past, she struggles through a new-found relationship with a co-worker. She undergoes an emotional roller-coaster, experiencing both the joy and the turmoil of being in love. The reader finds herself involved with Zara: empathizing with her when she is tormented by her insecurity; chastising h

Well, I did enjoy this book. Zara was a Little annoying in places due to her neediness in her relationship. She seemed insecure about whether her boyfriend really likes her and projected issues from previous relationships.
As the book unfolds, it becomes clear that although she thinks that her previous relationships have caused her angst that the difficulties actually lie with her dysfunctional family.
Set in Manila, it is a lovely exotic backdrop and I appreciated something of the culture.
