NY Times and USA Today bestselling author Lexi Blake lives in North Texas with her husband, three kids, and the laziest rescue dog in the world. She began writing at a young age, concentrating on plays and journalism. It wasn't until she started writing romance and urban fantasy that she found the stories of her heart. She likes to find humor in the strangest places and believes in happy endings no matter how odd the couple, threesome, or foursome may seem.
Her first novel, Their Virgin Captive: Masters of Ménage, Book 1, was a collaboration with New York Times bestselling author Shayla Black. There are five more books available in the series: Their Virgin's Secret, Their Virgin Concubine, Their Virgin Princess, Their Virgin Hostage, and Their Virgin Secretary. The next book in the series, Their Virgin Mistress, is releasing this April.
In addition to the Masters of Ménage series, she is the author of the Masters and Mercenaries series. There are eight full-length novels and four novellas available now, with more coming in 2015.
In 2013, Lexi also began releasing her urban fantasy series, Thieves. The first five are available now, with Ripper, a spin-off to the series, coming in 2015.
This is the Lexi Blake that I LOVE. I adore getting little glimpses into the lives of some of my favorite couples from Miz Blake's many series (and offshoots). Combine that with some incredibly YUMMY sounded recipes and you have one happy reader (fan).
~My Favorite Of The Short Stories~
Serena's. I LOVED this one because it took place in the town of BLISS the setting of this author's other series under the Sophie Oak moniker. I loved that series, and I loved seeing it connected with the M&M world. Plus I adore Jake and Adam. So win-win.
A close second was Ten and Faith's and Damon's and Penny's
~My Least Favorite Of The Short Stories~
Surprisedly Ian and Charlotte's. Considering how much I LOVE Ian, I thought for sure this one would be my favorite (or very close to it). Oh, it was still good, and I did enjoy it for the most part. I just think it was a bit too silly and over the top for me. Especially the way the girls are portrayed. I get it. They are Ian and Charlotte's kids, BUT they are STILL kids. Young kids at that. So It was a bit eye-rolling that they would be starting fires and shooting people with crossbows. And ya, ya, I know it is meant to be all tongue in cheek funny. As I said, I did enjoy it. But not anywhere close to how much I enjoyed some of the other stories.
~Best Quote Of The Book~
"Serena’s car broke down and then some asshole arrested her, but only because his wife is a huge fan and now they’re going to Misery her."
~A Few Of The Yummy Recipes I Very Much Want To Try~
-- Beef Wellington ( I could eat this ALL day long and for the rest of my life and never get enough of it.) -- Strawberry Pretzel Salad (yummy) -- Sausage Ravioli Alfredo -- Slow Cooker Pizza Chicken -- Stuffed French Toast -- Key Lime Pie
This was a delightful collection of vignettes that lets fan of Lexi Blake catch up with characters mainly from the Masters and Mercenaries series. I say mainly because the author is working on combining two of her series, Masters and Mercenaries with some of her older works written as Sophie Oak. Thus Serena finds Bliss finds her author from the M and M series stuck in Bliss, Colorado, where Sheriff Nathan Wright locks her up in order to let her fans in the mountain community have a chance to meet her. While in Bliss, Serena finds way to deal with her feelings after having a hysterectomy.
Other couples in the book include Ian and Charlie, Faith and Ten, Karina and Derek, Damon and Penny, and most of the Taggart-McKay women in a vigil for their men. Interspersed with the short stories are some really tasty sounding recipes.
All of the stories are sprinkled with Blake's unique mix of pathos and humor. Especially funny are Ian and Charlie's attempt to have a night out and Damon's intent to hire new women for the London team. My only complaint is the order of the stories is not chronological and the final story time frame actually occurs far in the past.
Overall, though, this is a thoroughly enjoyable book, giving us more glimpses into the lives of some of our favorite characters and exploring the nature of being women and having families.
Talk about a book that will make your mouth water in more ways than one!
Lexi Blake and Suzanne Johnson are BACK with another DELICIOUS TREAT! Not only do fans of the talented Lexi Blake get to revisit their FAVORITE characters and find out what sexy and awkward shenanigans they are up to, they get to bask in the deliciousness that is Ms. Johnson’s wonderful recipes!
There is no better pairing than a good book and delicious, mouth-watering food, and MASTER BITS & MERCENARY BITES - Girls Night gives us that PERFECT COMBINATION!
You will LAUGH. You will definitely CRY. Your smile will grow bigger with each turn of the page. I can’t even tell you how much I crave this concept, pairing recipes with short stories. It works so well and with Lexi and Suzanne behind the well, I expect no less than absolute GREATNESS!
I can’t let you go without the ridiculousness that is Ian Taggart! You are welcome!
“The only thing that could be worse is if one of my precious babies marries a vegan. What the fuck is almond milk, Charlie? Nuts don’t have breasts. They don’t have breasts.”
5 Star reviews of Master Bits & Mercenary Bites - Girls Night In by Lexi Blake and Suzanne M. Johnson
What’s better than sharing a great meal with loved ones and good friends? Not a whole lot I’m thinking, so to me this was a total winner from the start. Master Bits & Mercenary Bites: Girls Night In is filled with short stories about our favourite couples from the Master & Mercenaries series along with some truly spectacular mouth-watering and inspiring recipes which will leave you begging for more. Often when you are reading one of the books from either this or the Topped series, you will find yourself imagining the dishes that are mentioned Throughout the books the culinary delights are often mentioned in passing and many readers, me included have asked Lexi Blake for the “secrets” to these dishes; this book is the result. This book is a great mix of stories and easy to follow recipes that might well inspire your own Master & Mercenary experience, I know I am certainly going to have a go at some of these recipes. This was a great combining of two of my passions, cooking and the highly successful Masters and Mercenary series. Way to go Lexi Blake and Suzanne Johnson; I loved that this book focused on the women from the series, all smart, feisty and capable women and I would be happy to be any one of them.
What goes better with a night out than great FOOD??!!
Fans of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries Series get a sneak peek into the chaotic lives of their favorite characters during the trying times of having children. Get ready for shenanigans that will keep you laughing, warm family moments, plans devised for a little rendezvous time, and the chaos that follows!!
Adding to the plot is the amazing recipes that Suzanne Johnson has paired with the short stories!! It’s a match made in McKay-Taggart heaven!!! Another plus….there are several recipes that I already cook in my home, so the familiarity of the southern cooking style to the menu is a hit with this cook!!
Get ready for the treat of all treats when catching a glimpse at Charlotte and Ian’s household!! From the insane antics of the girls to the sweet terms of endearment between the two characters, you will not be able to help loving these characters just a little bit more. Javi & Jules make a quick appearance for fans of At Your Service! Faith and Ten also give fans of the series a little sneak peek into their life at home. Adding to a great collection of short stories!!
As a fan of all things homemade in the kitchen and the McKay-Taggart clan, I can certainly say that Lexi Blake has given us one of the most creative ways to present short stories!! A true compliment to the originality of the characters and the author!!
I loved getting to revisit the M&M series! My favorite was Damon and Penny’s She’s the Boss. Catty conversations made me wish for a cat fight, but Penny has the last laugh so it all worked out well. And Ian and Charlotte’s Rough Night was a catastrophe of hysteric proportions. Oh! And the recipes.. simple and comforting. I can’t wait to give a few others a whirl in the kitchen, but can say I loved the Bacon Ranch Cheeseball! Quick, easy, and quite tasty!
I'm still laughing after finishing this one last night, these short catch-ups are some of my favorites, they just make this series come even more to life and leave me wanting more.
This was a really good book with some really good recipes in it. This book was filled with short stories with some of the couples from this series. Ian and his wife Charlie are my favorite couple in the " Masters and Mercenaries " series they have three kids twin girls who are little terrors and son and they just want one night out. At home babysitting is Michael Malone and Boomer when one of the girls shoots Boomer with a crossbow and they have to leave a play party but not before Ian falls and hurt himself. Faith and Ten gets Hopes ashes and Faith is not handling the death of her sister to well and Ten knows just how to handle it with a trip to the dungeon. Serena who is dealing with the fact that she had complications after she had her baby and can't have any more and she thinks that both kids are Adams and she doesn't want to hurt Jakes feelings. Penny who is married to Damon deals with her insecurities and when Damon has to hire some female's most of the women are bitchy or there for the wrong reason. The girls all deal with the fact that all of their men are out in the field Mia and Case are going to have a baby and she is afraid of losing him the way she did her birth parents. This was a good read this book was well written like all of Lexi's books with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next Masters and Mercenaries book.
Master Bits & Mercenary Bites is a delicious book! It had recipes that seemed easy enough for me to do and short stories about the girls in the Masters and Mercenaries series. When I read At Your Service I was wondering who this Suzanne person was, because she was popping up at Topped and I had no idea what the author wanted to do with that character. As it turns out she is a real person who collaborated with Lexi Blake. The recipes are hers and I hope they are good. I haven't had the chance yet to try one of them, but I have kept some I liked that I might try them in the future.
The rest of the book is a collection of short stories about some of the couples we know and love. Each one is filled with love and Serena's made me cry. I haven't read her story yet but after this, her story has moved up on my TBR. We also get to experience the scene with Ian, Charlotte and the chair from their point of view. If you have read At Your Service you will know what I mean. Their story cracked me up. Their twins are amazing and they give me hope for a series with all the children from the couples. They will lead the team and the enemies are going to be doomed before they realize what happened to them. Ian and Charlotte's story had some tenderness in it too and I loved that story because of it.
Actually, all the stories showed how much each person loves their other half despite the difficulties each day brings to them. They don't have the perfect marriages, but their love is enough. You don't have to read these stories because you will miss something from the series, but I think you should read this book because each little story adds something to the lives of the people we know and love. They are sweet and when I think of them I have a warm feeling in my mind.
So many emotions, I don't even know where to begin. Faith and Ten had me in so many tears, they broke my heart and I wanted to give them great big hugs. Catching up with everyone was great, and I forgot how much I missed Damon and Penny, hiding away across the pond. And Ian's disdain for us Canadians, LOL!
But the one, the best, the thing that had me in tears, that had me actually laughing out loud, and remembering the best place, the happy place that I go to, was Serena in Bliss. The crossovers have begun and I am over the moon excited. I was wondering what the Bliss and Siren's timeline was going to be, and seeing that it was frozen until we are picking it up again has me overjoyed. Happy tears, sad tears, and heart-swelling moments happen to Serena in Bliss, and I loved every moment
That last chapter though, the ritual and moments that are happening while the world is being saved yet again, that made the book, and I am choked up remembering it
Lexi wrote another amazing installment, giving us moments with characters that live and breath in her mind, and we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to peek inside and see what is happening!
I have to admit I’m a bit behind on the Masters and Mercenaries series, but that didn’t prohibit my absolute enjoyment of Master Bits & Mercenary Bites—Girls Night. I had a blast catching up with Charlie and Ian, Faith and Ten, Karina and Derek, and the wild and crazy people Serena ran into in Bliss, Colorado. I loved how all the girls rallied together and supported each other while the McKay-Taggart team was out on a special op. Each story was just a snack—a quick nosh to brighten up the afternoon.
And those recipes. Damn, I can’t wait to try them out! There are so many options—appetizers, main courses, desserts and drinks. There’s something for every appetite!
Fun, sexy, smart and sassy—describes both the food and the stories contained in Master Bits & Mercenary Bites—Girls Night. ~ Missy, 4.5 stars
I do love getting some more stories from this world. When an author creates a world that has me craving more it’s a treat to get these small tastes of what’s going on in their world.
I don’t mind the stuff about food but I quickly got to the real treats
Loved this series! I loved getting another glimpse into their lives. I enjoyed seeing the couples and how they still make the time to connect even though life gets in the way. It was many little slices of the lives for the Master and Mercenaries/Topped couples. Charlie and Ian Taggart and Serena, Adam and Jacob are some of my favorite characters from this series. It was fun and heartbreaking to see into their lives again.
Highly recommend reading this series if you haven't yet...
Lexi Blake and Suzanne Johnson are back again for another delicious savory treat to be devoured in a sitting! So many yummy stories to sink our teeth into that I craved more (as always)! In Master Bits and Mercenary Bites - Girls Night, Lexi passionately writes on the struggles, both physically and mentally, of what our favorite McKay-Taggert female characters battle with. Not only the uphill battle of marriage and kids, but the inner struggle of communication, love, and desire with your love. Most of all, Lexi wholeheartedly writes on girlfriends, how each of the MT females are family, sisters and will always have their backs for each other.
Out of all the stories, I am in love with Ian and Charlotte’s tale. You see a glimpse of the story in Javi & Jules book At Your Service, but to fully divulge and see the aftermath, know what’s said between The Taggert’s was down to earth, natural and honestly, humorous as ever with Ian’s witty remarks. We all knew on some level that Ian’s kids were going to grow up and be well trained agents and this small tale fully shows it! Charlie has a hard time overcoming control as a mother, but our macho, Dominant Ian pulls her back.
“It’s a Taggert world. My baby girls are princesses, but there’s only one queen, Charlie.”
Beautifully written, showcasing that the woman of the MT world love their men unconditionally. Never veering off, always worshiping hungrily after their husbands/Doms no matter what life throws at them.
Another story that had my heart in tight hold with so much power and emotion is Faith and Ten’s. “Her sister had ruined Theo Taggert’s life. How could they stand to look at her.” We finally are able to know what lurks deep in the mind of Faith. The multiple stories that followed Hope McDonald (her sister) and her experiments, we never knew Faith’s opinions, thoughts and emotions. Ten the ever-loving husband lures her emotions out only to reveal the earth shattering development. Their love truly knows no bounds!
5 Stars for every word, every emotion and let’s not forget all the amazing food you can cook up while you venture back into the land of McKay-Taggert, but this time with the females... the sisterhood! Utter Perfection by the creative and talented Lexi Blake!

4 stars. This was a fun, little extra addition to the Masters and Mercenaries series! This book is full of super yummy recipes and short stories featuring some of our favorite past couples.
Now, I'm not much of a cook. In my house, my hubby does most of the cooking for our family. But I admit that the recipes in this book are really tempting. If I am not brave enough to try them myself, I am definitely going to beg my hubby to try them. The recipes sound really delicious and not difficult at all.
The stories were so much fun. I liked seeing the couples a few years down the road from when they first started their relationships. These are great slices of everyday life, after the first initial bloom has worn off, with the added stress of jobs and a kid or two. It is obvious these couples still really love each other and their relationships have only grown deeper. It was sweet and sexy to see how they kept the magic alive in their relationships in different ways. Included are stories featuring Jesse and Phoebe, Ian and Charlotte, Derek and Karina, Faith and Ten, Serena taking a trip to Bliss, Penelope and Damon, and a girls night in with the whole gang. All of the stories had elements of humor, sassiness, sexiness and sweetness. They were at times emotional and they show that not everything always works out the way you plan or want. But that's life, with all of it's ups and downs. The whole Mckay-Taggart gang has proven that they are strong and that they are a family who loves and supports each other. I also loved the element of strong female friendship in the stories too. It was awesome to see how kickass these strong women they were at balancing motherhood, tough jobs and marriage.
Overall, this was a really fun, entertaining read. Delicious-looking recipes and sweet and sexy stories. A perfect blend of yummy goodness! I love this series and look forward to more from the McKay-Taggart gang and Ms. Blake!
It’s no secret that I love Lexi Blake! I have since the very beginning. Not only have I been a huge fan from the start of one of my favorite series of all times, Masters and Mercenaries, but I was also a huge fan of her alter ego, Sophie Oak, (And that’s when I didn’t know they were one in the same!) I also loved the last combination cookbook and Slice of life vignettes that Lexi came out with. There were not only some very cool stories, but I’ve found some yummy new favorites for my recipe file. This time around, Master Bits and Mercenary Bites:Girls Night, has some amazingly tummy rumbling new recipes that I’m totally stoked to try out! Coconut Shrimp, Spinach and Artichoke Dip, Tiramisu, Stuffed French Toast, and OMG Key Lime cake!!! I swear I’m ready to start in right now! Plus, the stories were just fabulous! Jessie and Phoebe spend a night with Adam, Jake, and Serena’s kids as Jake and Adam run off to Bliss, Colorado to save Serena from the nudists! And Serena ends up in a jail cell in Bliss and finds herself surrounded by the craziness of the citizens of Bliss! There are all sorts of fun shorts in this book along with gastronomic delights! It’s worth every penny and more!
Master Bits & Mercenary Bites; Girls Night by Lexi Blake and Suzan M. Johnson.
Master Bits & Mercenary Bites; Girls Night is a wonderful collection of short stories following the MacKay/Taggart family women with a handful of oh-so-delicious recipes.
I absolutely loved the short stories because we were able to see what the MacKay/Taggart families were up to ever since their stories were told. From time to time we see them appear in the Master and Mercenary series produced by Lexi Blake, but there’s nothing better than actually getting a snip-it of their lives now. Even if their planned dates turn disastrous. I would have been completely satisfied with the short stories, but to be honest, I really look forward to trying out the recipes that are produced in this collection. I mean, they sound DE-LIC-IOUS!
I highly recommend reading Master Bits & Mercenary Bites; Girls Night! I mean, who wouldn’t want to know what’s going on with the MacKay/Taggart family? A crazy person, that’s who. (haha)
Tempting Sexy Thoughts **ARC for an Honest Review**
2.5 stars These were marginally better than the other short stories.
I have to say, I love Ian and Charlotte in the series but the short story in this collection made me dislike their little family. Their kids were complete brats and the parents were proud. They're the type who go to parent interviews and are told that their kids bully other children but the parents only see them as their special little snowflakes. UGH. The kids can be feisty but please stop writing them as horrible bullies in the making. That's not something to be proud of.
Ten's and Faith's story was nice but it was kind of a mish-mash of Liam/Avery's and Sean/Grace's story from the first short story collection.
I skim read the stories with the Topped characters because so far I haven't loved that series.
I liked Serena's story and Damon/Pen's story.
The girl's night story was good because we got a few perspectives. I could have gone without Charlotte's and Serena's since we already got their stories but they were nice to read too.
Excellent recipes and excellent storyline catching up with the family and what is happening with each other starting with Faith,Ten and Grant Smith how talking about it doesn't work it's better magic as they only way they know . The gift of acceptance and accepting what Faith family secrets has put the rest of the teammates through makes Faith anxious but in true style with love and support they are able to succeed. Charlotte and Ian and the girls and boys and Bud absolutely hilarious love this pair and very witty and the banter between them also the reference to football. Same with Katrina and detective inspector. Phoebe and Jessie and their families of caos which is hilarious. Tiffany and Sebastian fun and games and Penny and Damon Knight love the storyline very funny and wish I was a fly on the wall for that. The sisterhood is all for one and one for all helping each other through the hard times and the brotherhood the same. The theme tune welcome to the jungle sums them up completely. Master Bits & Mercenary Bites ~Girls Night is filled with short, quick McKay-Taggart stories and some very delicious recipes. I loved catching up with the clan. Each story is intertwined providing a personal POV of their fears, struggles and happiness. There are so many HEAs I was left feeling all gushy inside. There are plenty of surprises as well.
There was one story that pulled the most on my heart strings. Serena Dean-Miles reveals her painful secret that had me in tears. After an almost ticket she finds herself in a small town named Bliss that has her heading straight for a heartfelt reunion.
Bliss happens to be another series by Sophie Oak (aka Lexi Blake) that I'm going to dive into next. I loved how the two stories were incorporated.
I enjoyed all the shorties! I can never get enough of the McKay-Taggart clan with the new addition of the Miles-Dean, Weston and Murdoch Investigative Firm team. Yup, I see a future spin off. 5 Stars
I am a huge fan of the Masters and Mercenary series and it was good to get a look at what all the characters are up to. Lexi Blake and Suzanne M. Johnson did one kick a@@ job with this book.
I love the way Lexi Blake start every story of with recipes, made me want to try some of them in the future. I freaking love these characters so much that when I realize that we get to have a little taste of them again my mouth watered and my attention was brought right to attention.
This book is filled with laughter, especially Char and Ian’s story, omg, the story that they tell about their kids will leave you with a smile on your face. Then we have one story that will leave all choked up because we get to see this person try to still move on from a very painful past. In a nut shell, we get a glimpse into now lives of characters that we loved. We get to see them in a different light and that in itself is something to behold.
You have to read all the other books before you read this one. This book references many of the previous books.
When Serena ended up in Bliss, CO I laughed so hard. That place is crazy and I wish I could live there. I'd even take the chance of it being the most dangerous place to live. The only confusing thing is I thought everyone in Lexi Blake's series kind of knew each other. So when Serena was in Bliss and was pulled over, Nate arrests her.
My favorite story was about the McKay/Taggart women. The story and gave the view of what the McKay/Taggart women go through when their men are on a mission.
Love, Love , Love this book! This is such a treat for any Lexi Blake fan. I loved the first cook book for the stories and the amazing recipes! What is amazing is that the recipes are just as good as the stories! These stories let us catch up with the women of the Master and Mercenary world and a great preview for Bliss! This book is steamy and funny, touching and suspenseful and will give you a glimpse into the world of the ladies. I read all the stories in one sitting and started it as soon as it landed on my kindle. This book is a must for any cooking fan and Lexi Blake fan!
As usual my only complaint about Lexi Blake's short stories is that I want more!!!! I love how the plot lines in this selection run into each other, it's literally laugh out loud humorous. The recipes in this one are a bit disappointing. There are a few I will probably try, but most of them are a bit "red neck shortcut" for my tastes. When I cook, I want to cook, not pull low quality pre-prepared foods out of a container and smoosh them together. However, that's a personal preference and I bet a lot of these will go over well.
The women of the M&M series are highlighted in this wonderful book that once again tells their stories and gives us quick and fun recipes to enjoy. These fun, sarcastic, sexy women have to hold the fort down when it comes to their men and kids and these short stories also give us a glimpse of their inner thoughts and fears. One of my favorite characters, Grace, has a beautiful story that may have you reaching for the tissue. A great addition to the series as we learn more about the women who stand by their men in all sorts of situations.
I loved these short stories. We got to revisit many of my favorite couples from the MT family and see how their lives have changed. One story made me cry a bit, but it was because I felt like many women could relate to the story. I haven’t tried any of the recipes in here yet, but some of them sound really good. Definitely recommend this for those who have fallen in love with this crazy MT family like I have.
I had so much fun reading this. It is definitely delicious in more ways than one. I loved the sexy short stories. I enjoyed catching up with couples from other stories in the series. It was so great seeing them again and seeing where they are now. I also loved the recipes and I can't wait to try some of them out. They all sound absolutely mouthwatering. I definitely hope we get more from these two.
All my favorite couples from M&T PLUS yummy sounding recipes?! I’m SO there!!! And there’s a bacon ranch cheese ball which made my mouth water! More than the M&T men, if that’s actually possible! So if you make that recipe, please PM me and send some my way. I’ll love you forever!
I love when authors of any genre write sort of a check-in with their couples, especially when it’s a series like this that you can’t completely say goodbye to all the characters.
Loved them all but as usual it was Ian and Charlie that I loved the most, laughed so much during their story. Now that I have finished I have to start all over again. I really love the way the stories are linked with the ending relating to Brody and Steph's book which I have just finished 're reading. I have now started buying the series in audio book and need the rest to be recorded as soon as possible. My favourite set of books.
I loved this book! Snippets of life from the McKay-Taggart crew. It was funny, sweet and hot as expected. And the recipes were a great extra. To understand these characters fully you should read the entire Masters and Mercenaries series. These writers know how to pull you into a story so you lose all sense of time and become emotionally invested. Keep this series going, it is one of the best!!
