The Maiden’s Defender by E. Elizabeth Watson
Ladies of Scotland #2

Madeline Crawford is a mouse…a mouse that has learned to creep around without incurring the wrath of her father. She is nothing like her stronger sister who appeared in book one of this series. Well, Madeline finds herself as the ward of the king with Lord DeMoreville the man in charge of taking care of her and he is a no good rotten scoundrel…to say the least. On her eighteenth birthday she is out and about enjoying the

I loved "The Maiden's Defender" by E. Elizabeth Watson. Medieval romances are my absolute favorite and I keep hoping they make a comeback. Lady Madeline's evil father has been displaced and she has been taken pseudo hostage by the Scottish King. She has a ward, but lives alone with just two feeble servants in a deserted keep. Madeline is sweet, kind, and very, very naive, she can't read or write and was cowed by her father for most of her life.
Tearlach is Madeline's father's former commander and

This is a new author for me and I am already a big fan. Madeline really transformed into a confident women throughout the book and I could feel the connection between her and Tearlach. I loved to read their interactions. They are one of my favorite fictional couples of 2017.

Tearlach McGregor is the right man to train soldiers how to be ruthless, especially since he can take on a number of men and come out on top in a fight. But the moment he rescues Lady Madeline Crawford, Tearlach begins to wish his life could be different and he could give her the life she deserves including love, family and happiness. Yet, when Madeline is informed she's betrothed to another, there's no way Tearlach can stay only to lose the woman he loves. However, Madeline is determined not to

I love Tearlach. that is the sweetest guy under that tough exterior. How he is with Madeline just has you melt.

Here Madeline is free of the shackles of her father but no hindered by the Lord who the king is having take care of her. He is a horrible cheat. And greedy to boot. But Madeline is grateful just for her freedom and doesn’t say anything. Seeing Tearlach again has her wary but as she gets to know him and she sees how kind and caring he is she falls

Oh I absolutely loved this book. It was the kind of sweet that makes your toothache. Right from the first page I was drawn in and hooked. What was even better was how Madeline grew. She went from being this timid, quiet girl who never spoke up, to this powerful woman who went after what she wanted. Tearlach was the perfect gentleman. He wanted the wee lass right from the start when he was working for her father. I loved watching him struggle with his wants and needs when it came to Madeline. ...more

What does highlander with nothing to his name but his skills to do when the lady he loves is betrothed to another?

I enjoyed this book with its simplicity. The plot is simple and straighforward but the way it is weaved with the character-driven story is seamless. The author really knows where to put the emotional scenes that pulls the reader's heartstring. Its a complete departure from the previous book where I found the characters boring despite their complexity.

Plot: 4/5
Characterisation: 4/5

This is a lovely story, well written and I was intrigued from the beginning, Madeline and Tearlach may have the same problems as many highland stories, but E Elizabeth Watson, has done a good job in making this her own. Getting back to them, their chemistry is wonderful, I couldn't wait to see if they get their HEA and thwart the awful warden.

But being the 4th son of a Scottish lord, Tearlach doesn’t think much of his prospects to win her hand.

Tearlach is a warrior and trains men to be ruthless soldiers. When he rescues the Kings ward his mind turns to a wife and family but sees no chance in being with Madeline. Will he find a way to claim her as his own? I liked this Highlander read. The story is fast-paced with plenty of drama and the chemistry between Tearlach and Madeline is amazing. I was hooked from beginning to end.

I liked this book. The chemistry between Tearlach and Maddie is obvious - to everyone except them. He's admired her from afar for many years, but because of her beastly father he never even tries to speak with her. She notices him, too, but is too cowed to think he'd ever be interested in her. Complicating matters is the fact that she's a noble and he's a guardsman. And then they're separated when her father is imprisoned.

I adored the hero in this book - the tortured, self-sacrificing, honorable, fourth son Tearlach. He loves but will not allow himself to have that which "belongs" to another man, even if that man doesn't deserve the bonnie lass. Author E. Elizabeth Watson does a skillful job of ramping up the sweet agony of unrequited love until our hero unleashes his desire. Great read. Great writing. Great story-telling from Watson. I look forward to many more.

I received this book from net galley for an honest review. Thank you!!

This novel was a nice read. It brings a choice between love and duty, which may people face during this time period. Lady Madeline Crawford is a meek individual due to the upbringing by her father. She never complains or voices her opinions, which frustrated me since I felt she needed to speak up for herself, which she will gradually develop throughout the novel. She becomes a ward of the king due to her father's imprisonment.

Teàrlach MacGregor.... swoon worthy. Man of few words, but manages to win over Lady Madeline. She is living quietly with a few servants awaiting news of a betrothal from the King. She sees herself as weak and slow, but is none of those things. She has a core of steel inside her. Teàrlach sees it and falls in love with her.

Their romance was built up quite well. I enjoyed seeing them at each stage, cheering for them. Letting loose a few tears for them. A very enjoyable historical romance for me.

This was the first time I can remember reading a Medieval Romance and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It features my favorite romance novel guy – a swoon-worthy protective hero. Who doesn’t love a sexy highlander?
Madeline is an uneducated yet smart and strong heroine. She started out as fairly meek and with good reason. Her father was a brute who oppressed her horribly and refused to let her learn to read. She was illiterate through no fault of her own, but she was also inquisitive and highly

I really liked these characters, Tearlach and Madeline. I thought that they made a great pair-ish. I thought that he was the perfect hero, perfect protector and I thought that their relationship was really sweet. The tension was built up perfectly and I thought it really made me feel like I was Madeline, blushing all the

Excellent read! E.Elizabeth Watson’s artistically superb writing draws you right into the story of Tearlach MacGregor and Lady Madeline Crawford. The human condition, strength and weaknesses, are born out through a tale of secret love and the hierarchically societal norms of the times. The reader is taken through all their own emotions of frustrating young love, hardships, heartbreak, and then elation and cheering as the two find their way. These were two of my favorite characters of Ms. Watson’ ...more

It's been a long time since I actually cried while reading a book and felt like my own heart was breaking, that's how powerful the author's words are in this story. You feel every emotion the hero and heroine feel!! I thoroughly and absolutely LOVED this book, could hardly bear to put it down until I was finished reading it. A solid 5 stars and wish I could even give it more!

In 2017, my first two books with Entangled Publishing were released, entitled An Earl for the Archeress, and Maiden's Defender.
