Following a girl called Emilie as she digs through her family history and inadvertently falls back in time to 1913, I’ve dubbed this one as a less dense version of Outlander – but Canadian. Although, come to think of it, you do still get a Scottish guy, so…

Reading this on a train journey home, I found myself whisked into a history I hadn’t previously seen much of. It’s not often you find books set in Canada, and it made a nice change compared to the u

In my opinion, Calgary has a new and bright shining star. Author Renee Veillet's debut novel is a richly engaging time travel novel. Set in Alberta (past and present), Renee has done her research to bring Alberta and Calgary to life in a bygone era. Perfectly paced and beautifully descriptive. I loved passages in the books that are staying with me. Lines like "a childhood stolen with a father's last breath" are so evocative of a time when death came early in so many families. A captivating read. The story moves along at a quick and exciting pace with descriptive writing that brings to life its characters so very well, making for a page-turning adventure.

I found particularly interesting the turn of twentieth century (1913) Alberta homesteading setting and the lifestyle details. I think younger readers would find this glimpse of historical period of value and worthy of discussion.

I loved the ending (despite needing a minute or two to realise that I loved the ending).

I don't know how to rate this book. It was sold to me as a shorter, ya Outlander set in Canada. It was that but simpler; Outlander is much more intricate. However, there were also a couple misprints and as someone who is reading to procrastinate grading papers, they jumped out at me. Then, as I got toward the end, I realized it wasn't a stand-alone book and my mind went - noooo! I have fallen out of reading series, but I do want to know what happens from here...

Great book! The story moved at at a quick pace which made it hard to put down. I loved the historical facts and trivia which made me feel like I got a lot more out of the book than an entertaining escape into another time. Great ending to lead into the next book!!

A wonderful debut novel about time travel and life in Canada in the early 1900's. Fast-paced and engaging with great characters! Can't wait to read the next book in the series!

I tried very hard to enjoy this novel but I struggled with the story. One of my favourite genres is Historical Fiction, and I was thrilled to be reading about my beloved Alberta. One of my least faves is romance....and Harlequin-type Romance. I found a few too many flaws in the story to believe it.

This story is about time traveling back to Calgary in 1913 so it was interesting but a bit simplistic
