Hayley Carter is ready, willing and able to make her mark on the world, starting at the non-profit organization she has just been hired at. Like a whirly-gig on steroids she is ready to take Washington D.C. on and come out on top, and trust me, she is ready, armed with a cause near to her heart, a self-help regime that promises to re-create her as a woman in charge of both her personal and professional lives. Look out, world, Hayley is getting better every day!

Too bad her human frailties and Mu

If you can forgive a football phrase when reviewing a book featuring a baseball player, to me this really was a book of two halves. The first half was fine, but I was struggling to connect to the characters a bit, so although I was enjoying what I was reading, I just know the author normally does better.

And then in the second half, well last third (do any sports have thirds?) suddenly everything clicked into place, courtesy of one live sporting fixture where I may have started to understand bas

I make no secret of being a huge fan of Aven Ellis’ work her hockey novels are superb and as quite an unusual Brit who loves hockey I always get completely absorbed into them. Squeeze Play is Aven’s first venture into another sport, one I’m clueless about, Baseball. But not one to be put off by her ignorance I dove in head first and I’m so pleased I did.

Hayley is a girl after my own heart, with a one-track mind on her career she has no interes

DNF. Just a bit boring and I didn’t care for the heroine. She came off as pretentious and not relatable. Also the story and writing were excessive. It’s great that she meets someone “quirky” and “unique” like her who also is interested about the things apparently no one else thinks of (I rolled my eyes at these points) like why earl grey is called earl grey. And she was like “this is crazy no guys my age are like this and I’m not attracted to any guys my age either he’s so special”. Blegh I just ...more

Cute, but lacking something

This book was good in a cute sense. The meet cute was fun, but for most of the book, everything was too easy. It never seemed real. The conflict, when it came, blew up quickly and was quickly resolved. I can’t believe I’m complaining about a fiction book not seeming real enough, but it kept bothering me and pulling me out of the story.

Also, while I can totally relate to feeling like I need to be perfect at everything, the book started to feel “preachy” after a while.

Sweet story that was a little too perfect and cheesy for me. There was a bit of conflict in the last 10% which ended within about 3 pages.
I liked the cherry blossom 🌸 scene. And all the early dating scenes really.

After graduating from college Hayley starts her first job at a non-profit organization. She's very proud and is ready to participate in the professional environment of Washington DC. Her brother needed a lot of extra attention and care when he was growing up and as a result Hayley lived her school years in the shadows, but now it's time for her to shine. That doesn't go completely according to plan though. On her first day at work she stops at a coffee shop and accidentally spills her ice coffee ...more

This book is another Aven classic. I’m a baseball girl and while I love her hockey books, I’m so glad she decided to write a baseball series. The only thing that bummed me out was thinking that I will never meet my baseball player in a coffee shop! The characters had depth and I loved the relationships portrayed. I also enjoy getting to see a glimpse into the relationship the next book in the series follows! Squeeze Play is a home run!
First baseball book by Aven! you won't want to miss it!

Cherry Blossom

She meets him in a coffee shop after spilling coffee on him. He's a baseball star in DC. The perfect time of the year and a perfect couple.
This was super sweet and cute. I really liked the first half of the book, esp how the MC's first met. I also liked that the MC's had their own insecurities and issues and nothing ever got too angsty. In fact, I could totally relate to Hayley's need to get everything perfect. But man! The cheese-level towards the second half of the book became WAY too corny and sappy for me. So much so, that I was kinda cringing as I was reading the conversations between Hayley and Brody. The super sugariness of ...more

The story revolves around two people who meet and it's love at first sight. Their problems arise when each of them feels unworthy of the other. Brody is a professional baseball player which Hayley is a Georgetown graduate and works as a nonprofit organizer. Two different worlds but can love overcome the barriers? Good characters presented with down-to-earth feelings. The theme is "love conquers all".

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews Thank you to Aven for both my copy of this book and for organising this tour. If you have read Aven's books before you know that she has a few hockey series as well as contemporary romances. This book is a brand new series for Aven and a new sport too, in Baseball.

I'm not into sports and I don't know anything about Baseball but that didn't affect my enjoyment of this story one bit.

The story follows Hayley as she embarks on her first job s

I've absolutely loved reading "Squeeze Play". Brody and Hayley are definitely some of my favourite Aven characters to date. Their witty, flirty dynamic is addictive and I fell in love with them right from the start. Although this book is unmistakably an Aven Ellis novel, something about it made it feel new and '"fresh". Aven Ellis' writing is strong and confident and it translates beautifully into these character'

I am a strong, confident girl. So this book had me wanting to smack the female character almost every page. The story was cute though and filled my need for a quick brainless read.

As an Avid fan of Aven’s writing and a lover of all things romance and sports I was so excited when she decided to move into the world of baseball and if there could be a triple homerun, she hit it with this one. It is by far my favorite baseball romance book ever.
This book was like my dream story from when I was growing up. Being from Michigan I am and will always be a Detroit Tigers fan. I grew up sharing a room with my sister, dreams of meeting that swoon worthy player (In my world it was La

Ave Ellis is back with a new book! This one is rather special, because (for once) she stepped away from hockey and created a story around baseball.

This is obviously very exciting and I have to say I see baseball differently now, in a positive way.

The story follows Hayley Carter, who wants to start a career and finally found a great job. She is from DC and lives with her friend Katie.

I'm a huge fan of Aven Ellis and every single book of hers and have read them all multiple times, but I have to say this is my all time favorite. I couldn't stop laughing out loud with the scenes she set up and the witty remarks. We all have those friends in our lives that make us say the most inappropriate comments at the wrong times well welcome to Hayley and of course the hot guy she had just seen heard the entire conversation. So of course she was embarrassed who wouldn't be ?! But what happ ...more

I have loved all of Aven Ellis' hockey contemporary romance books, and I am so happy that she decided to branch out and write a baseball themed series. Baseball is another one of my passions and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed Squeeze Play!

The characters were so endearing and lovable. I totally fell for Brody! He was relatable, down to earth, and sweet. I liked that he didn't feel like he had to have appear a certain way or acquire certain possessions just because he was a sports star. Yes,

The only sport I love to watch it Football. However, Aven Ellis has made me think twice about hockey and now baseball. I absolutely love the hockey players that she writes about. The stories are just swoon worthy. Now we can add baseball to the list. I am like Hayley in that I really don't pay attention to the game. It's not my favorite sport to watch but with a character like Brody I would totally change my mind. I just might attend more Diamondback games and do some butt watching. I've not rea ...more

Aven Ellis has hit the ball out of the park with this book! I’ve been one of her readers for a few years, and this is by far her best book yet. It features Brody, a pro ball player with a bit of an edge, and Hayley, a determined-to-be-successful, but very awkward college graduate. Between the awkward situations Hayley puts herself in, and her sweet interactions with Brody, Hayley had become my all time favourite Aven Ellis heroine. Brody is by far become my new book boyfriend. Squeeze Play is the first book in the Washington Soaring Eagles series. Hayley has just gotten her dream job at a non-profit organization. On her way to work she stops for coffee and meets Brody, the new catcher for the Washington Soaring Eagles.

The book has plenty of laughs as Hayley and Brody navigate through their relationship, their jobs, and their families. I related to Hayley because, like her, I know virtually nothing about baseball. It was entertaining watching her trying to learn every

Such a sweet love story!

This was super sweet love story of two people finding each other when they least expected and working through some deep seeded issues that were holding them back from being their best selves. Being from Northern Virginia and growing up visiting DC frequently as a youth and now through adulthood, I just loved the setting of this story. In addition to this, the book mentioned Mambo Sauce which is a band I've seen live many times as twenty-something year old living in the ar

This book is a different sport for an author known for her hockey players. Squeeze Play is about Hayley and Brody. Hayley is fresh out of college and looking to take on the world. This leads to both of them questioning what they thought they wanted in their love life’s.

Another awesome read by Aven

Hayley just graduated from college and landed her dream job, Brody is a pro baseball player who just got traded to DC from Miami.. One run-in (literally) gets them talking about anything and everything .. Hayley is smitten with Brody but has no clue he is a professional athlete. sports aren't her thing...

What happens when the insecurities of both of them start coming out? Can they be each other's rock and make it work?

I can't wait for more in this series..

This is the first book in Aven Ellis' new series based on the Soaring Eagles baseball team. From the very first chapter, this book had me laughing. It is definitely Aven's most hilarious book to date. That cafe scene I will be remembering for quite some time.
This is a great book about overcoming your own insecurities and how you view yourself isn't necessarily how others do.
Hopefully AJ & Katie will be the next book in the series.
Just wonderful!!

Aven is back with a new book and a new sport! Squeeze Play is a baseball romance set in Washington DC.

Hayley has just gotten her dream job working for a dyslexia focused non-profit in DC. She has no time for romance, especially boys her age-they are too immature and unfocused.

Brody is the catcher for the Washington Soaring Eagles. All his life he's been compared to his twin Brady and led to believe all he is is a dumb jock.

After a super embarrassing yet hilarious encounter at a coffee shop Brody
