Shepherd writes with such a vintage but yet fresh style. Frankly, he is one of my favorite authors currently working in the horror genre. His stories have such pulse-pounding suspense that if you are not enjoying your time reading his work, you may have to check to see if you are human.

First of all, I want to say thank you to Rob for supplying me with an audiobook version of this story.

This story follows a man Peter who acquires an AI household supercomputer. I love the science-fictional elements of the story. Honestly, a lot of it seemed very realistic. I could honestly see things similar to this occurring in the future. I do not want to spoil anything for you so that you can enjoy the experience for yourself.

Syfy horror at its best. I land at 4.5 stars for this one. 💪

Very unique. Not a concept I have read before. Also one of my worse nightmares... computers coming alive and taking over the worse in a sense. Eerie!

This kindle e-book novella is from my Kindle Unlimited account stand alone book.

She is a robotic system managing a house for a single man 🚹. She keeps ordering stuff to change into a human. It happens!

I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of fantasy world 🌎 adventure thriller novels 👍🔰. 2025 👒😉

Rob Shepherd explores something in “My Name Is Human” that we all see happening before our eyes, yet we are not preventing it. In fact we as a society seem to be embracing it. That is technology taking over the world.

Since the beginning, mankind has relied on some shape of technology, and with time, technology has improved and advanced, and it continues to move forward.

Bottom line, technology is in-deed taking over the world.

In the short novelette, My Name is Human, Rob Shepherd explores what happens when a man is lonely. So lonely to the point where he purchases a special kind of computer that is basically advertised as having a soul. Can a computer have a soul? Or is a computer only as smart as the person controlling it.

Once the new computer comes, our main character realizes he got more than he signed up for. The computer has a mind of it’s own, and maybe it’s own soul. The system begins to control the surroundings, and even names itself. Update after update, the computer is getting closer and closer to a living being.

Eventually the story takes a turn and summons it’s inner Clive Barker Hellraiser feel by collecting flesh of others in order to create it’s body.

The ending is a bit twisted. It doesn’t exactly go in the direction that you think its about to.

Rob Shepherd does a great job making you squirm as you read it, as you realize how close to home some of this is hitting. And then it makes you start to look around, and get a bit paranoid wondering which machines in your own home have a mind of their own, sitting, waiting for their time to strike.

The writing style is savage and intense at times, passionate in a way this new computer system makes you think it just want to be human, so it can feel emotion and feel the touch of another person. The concept is quite gripping.
