Alright, before I started this book, I had high hopes for it. The second I had read the summary, I was hooked. I really love thrillers, but they are often all the same and rather involves police research than the actual murders, or the murderers themselves. Furthermore, I have been disappointed by this type of books before, because most of the time, they are very 'serious', adult books and it is usually heavy and dull, as if a book could not be realistic AND interesting at the same time.

But this
I loved the cover I thought it was very eye catching. What I liked about the cover is it looked a murderer on the loose with a rifle. You could tell instantly it's going to be one of those gruesome stories. Once I received my book looking at it more closely, I could see a church and wondered what the connection was. So apart from the cover that grabbed my attention, the next thing that I particularly liked was the church theme as my daughter goes to church every Sunday. So I'm very familiar with ...more

This was an incredibly dark thriller that addressed classic themes of revenge and human sin. Told from multiple perspectives, the narrative moved along quite quickly. At first, this story read like a traditional thriller, but readers should be aware that there were some supernatural horror elements in the later half of the narrative.

This story certainly contained some dark subject matter. I felt that the topic of sexual abuse was sensitively handled in a way that tried to minimize the

Chris Miller does it again. Every chapter of this book flew by very quickly because it was a joy to read. I read this one fast because it was enjoyable and trust me other books out there require the patience of a saint to finish reading.
From the beginning, we are hooked by the character of Sophie Fields who is briefly described but burned into our imagination in a deeply haunting description.
Is anything real? That's the question A Murder of Saints poses to the read

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:

Spoiler alert!

Well, first of all, it's really 3.5 stars overall.

I have ambiguous feelings towards the book. On the one hand, it has a really involving and somehow emotionally moving criminal plot - the revenge of a man on people responsible for his sister's suicide and the moral dillemmas the investigation into the killings poses for the leading detective. On the other hand... well, that's just it, that's the problem I have with the boo

In the town of Longview, a secret is kept. A secret that would split the church if ever its sickening deeds came to light. And from those deeds, the actions that would follow, a monster is born.
Chris Miller has penned an amazing, fast-paced story that will have you turning pages faster than your fingers can move. A Murder of Saints is part revenge, part darkness versus light. It truly does give the reader a lesser of two evils choice.

Twenty years ago, 12 yo Sophie Fields jumped off the roof of her home. She and several other kids accused a prominent church member of molestation. The church elders paid off most of the families. The two families that took the church to court were belittled and ostracized...and lost the case. Sophie’s mother collapsed and died and her father committed suicide. 15 yo Charlie was left an orphan and placed in foster care. Present day...Charlie Fields is back and seeking revenge on the men who dest ...more

I enjoyed this book even though it was a little darker and more grotesque than i had expected. Trauma, demons, revenge and redemption are a part of all our lives and this book through many characters perspectives deals with these very issues. In this well written, very descriptive first novel by Chris Miller, the reader is taken on a wild ride of death at the hands of a very tormented and saddened individual.
The lead character and detective, Harry, is someone you can feel for and root for all t

I am not a horror fan and this book at the edge of horror for me. There are some gruesome scenes as well as demons (which are not my favorite). However, the story is strong and the characters are pretty well developed. The main character, Detective Harry Fletcher is haunted by an old case and the “one” that got away. With a new partner, a strong Christian who does not hesitate to show his beliefs, Harry deals with a killer trying to right a wrong as well as Harry’s own questioning and loss of hi ...more

"Monsters are created. And they're created by monsters."

A fast paced suspense thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Chris Miller made an unforgettable tale with his spine chilling suspense combined with hatred, revenge, and faith. Then the ending just blindsided me. You will never see that coming. I look forward to more spine-chilling tales from Chris Miller.

This book immediately grabbed my attention. The definition of a thriller! I couldn't stop turning the pages from the very beginning. You feel connected to the character, I love being in the head of a psychopath. And this book puts you there. You feel what he feels, you feel the anxiousness, and even though he is a psychopath, I caught myself empathizing with him. I wanted justice for little Sophie! It is gruesome! I love it! If you like an edge of your seat can't stop reading it thriller, this b ...more

I thought the premise of the book was better than the execution unfortunately. I think a large part of it was that the narration was not to my liking. The other part of the problem was at around 5 hours left in the book. It took a hard left which in and of itself was not bad... if the book had started out with hints of this change I could have dealt with it, but it was a tale of two books and it didn't come together for me. Yeah I know that reads weird but I don't know how else to state it.

Audible:This was a very good book.A brother sees his sister and family distroyed by church decon pedophiles. It haunts him until he hatches a plan.It may not be all his own,but it is a plan.My big problem with this is the old'the atheist will come around' attitude. It would be nice to see him stick to his beliefs once in awhile.Tim Halligan was a fine narrator.“I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.” ...more

Wow. What a book! Very rarely do I find a book that I want to stay up all night reading -- literally -- and it has been a very long time since I've come across one. This was it. AND THE ENDING!!!!! I loved this book! I couldn't put it down the entire day until i finished it. This book has it all. Corrupted religion, deep-set evil in humanity, multiple psychopaths and plenty of gore and lots of surprises. I really thought I knew where this book was going, and then half way through it takes a crazy turn and things get even more intriguing. And the ending will rock you. This is just an all around amazing book. ...more

Miller has delivered a dark, brutal, and gritty offering with AMOS. My jaw dropped a few times during key scenes where our anti-hero truly shocked me. I thought this was a great read, and an excellent debut. Bravo!

After the blurb mentioned molestation, I was a bit wary because it’s one of the few subjects that I find distasteful. However I found it to be only a small part of the story, and it was done very tactfully, and without too much detail.

The action and horror had good detail, fast paced and hard to put down, a very enjoyable read.

This is the first book I have read of by Chris Miller, but it will not be my last.

If you can get through the gore of this book it is very suspenseful. I really did enjoy reading it, but I could have done without some of the graphic details. Being raised Catholic as a child it intrigued me.

This book was good. Well written and had just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting!
I am still considering upping my stars(from 3 to 4) on the review, especially since I didn't give it more for personal reasons. It is so well written that portions of it were hard to read. So, do I give it more stars and a higher review because it did it's job in making the reader uncomfortable? The characters were well drawn. I could not only see them, but I found them likeable, or remarkably un-likeab

A Murder of Saints is a story about a family torn apart by people they and their community trusted and believed in. The tragic tale of this family hangs heavy on the mind of two individuals that oppose each other throughout the story. It's also a story of renewal in the belief of a higher power and looking at the world through positives and not negatives.
Chris Miller is an exceptional and gifted writer! There were twists and turns I did not expect. Just when I thought the story was going to wrap

A Murder of Saints is a revenge tale that moves like a runaway train destroying everything in its path. This story is a great combination of horror and action with compelling characters and a frenetic pace. There is just enough supernatural elements added in to take this story to a higher level. All of the characters have their flaws and that helps make them realistic and interesting. This novel deals with the issues of religion and what must be done when church leaders commit unspeakable crimes ...more
