Neo took the lead on this one. Mr. Monkey has been practicing a new trick and has it down pat, almost. When he is inviting to show off the trick to the local school, he jumps at the opportunity. Beginning the trek, he discovers that it is more of an adventure than he might have supposed. From a car to travels by foot, through sun and snow, and even an encounter with a few teachers at the school, Mr. Monkey is faced with a full assembly and no supplies for his trick. What shall he do? First sentence: Mr. Monkey learns a trick. Almost. He tries it again. And again. And again! He gets it! Now he's ready to put on a show!

Premise/plot: Mr. Monkey has been invited by a school librarian to visit the school. It's a good thing he's just learned a new trick. But performing a trick and learning a trick aren't quite the same thing. So many unexpected things happen--even before he arrives at the school. What kind of show will Mr. Monkey put on for the students?!

Once again Mr. Monkey sets out on an adventure. This time he has a juggling trick that he plans to show the children at the local school. But things go downhill immediately when he smashes his car with a cow, then gets caught in a snow storm. None of these things stop Mr. Monkey of course, but they do make it difficult to get to the school. When he finally arrives things continue to go wrong. Will Mr. Monkey find a way to perform his trick anyway? I laughed my way through this one. It's full of ...more

In the second book, Mr. Monkey visits school. After learning to teach himself to juggle, he is invited by the school librarian to come and perform. Mr. Monkey gets himself ready and drives to school but is stopped by a cow in the road. When he tries to toss the cow out of the way, it lands on his car. Now he has to walk to school in the rain and then the snow and then even more snow. He finally arrives but along the way manages to lose all of his props. Look out! He’s about to improvise!

Mr. Monkey learns a new trick and is invited to do a show at the school...but will the children like his trick? I didn't find this one to be quite as tightly written as the first one (and I miss the pun on the idiom that rounded out Mr. Monkey Bakes a Cake), but kids will still love it. This is another funny adventure that's just right for beginning readers.

I didn’t know what this was and I still am not sure what this is, but I enjoyed the graphics with very few words, quite unlike a graphic novel or comic whose jumbles of all caps and illustration often leaves me confounded and more than a little frustrated.

270ish lexile. This book is pretty involved with it's detailed illustrations. I like the vibrant colors, though. Monkey is called to do a juggling show at a nearby school. I love all the creative ways he uses his props in order to fend off the rain and the snow in order to get there.
