A little Russian girl gives readers a tour of her country, sharing information about the geography, wildlife, some history, hobbies, some special food, and the arts.

This is a great intro to modern Russia for kids. I find it interesting that they chose to focus the history part on Peter the Great (no mention of the revolution or life under communism). There's a nice vocabulary guide and some further facts in the back of the book. I'll be curious to know what one of our Elementary teachers who is from Russia thinks of this book, but my guess is she'll approve. Highly recommended to curious little ones, kids studying Russia, and would be world travelers.

I really like this series for lower elementary children. This one on Russia highlights the geography, history of Peter the Great, the ballet, food, and the ballet. I'm sure teachers will find this book useful when teaching about Europe (or Asia for that matter!).

Living in... is a series that introduces beginning readers to kids from around the world. We learn some of the different geographies of the land and some of the major cities. Then, we spend a day in the life of each child from getting to ready for school to the end of the day. In between, we learn a little bit of history and some other facts pertaining to arts, culture, or sports. A glossary and a page of country facts are included.

I didn't realize there was a new one in the series and from a different author. I'm not sure if there will be more, though.

This was interesting, but it crammed in a LOT of information into just a few pages. My head is still spinning!
It's pretty much a "day in the life of" story, with a couple additions of things that don't happen every day, but are still fairly normal for a Russian family - where they went on vacation, for example.

It starts with an infodump about the geography, and has a tangent about Peter the Great under the guise of learning history in school. While they're interesting, they make the book feel much more dry.
