I don’t know what it was about this story, but there were elements of it that just meant it was hard to connect to it. For the most part, it was beautiful, heart-warming, sexy; the other part was boring and dull. It’s hard to explain what it was. Perhaps it was the beginning, the life on the ship. I didn’t even truly feel the drama of the ship sinking and Julia being the only survivor. One thing that also bu

This book has a lot of heart and some steam. I enjoyed this romance novel located in Spain. Duke Felipe was handsome and kind. He took care of Julia and made her feel safe. Together, they cried over the loss of their loved ones. Felipe feels guilty for the fire that killed his mistress. Julia survived a shipwreck but everyone else onboard died. They are a good couple that love each other but her racist brother might keep them apart.

I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review. The life of Julia was one of servitude. She was a meagerly paid companion to Lady Anne. On a cruise the ship was wrecked and she washed ashore unconscious near death when she was rescued by Felipe. The Duke of Torme. Theirs was a special relationship first based on her fear of the unknown. She ended up in Spain did not know the language or customs. Felipe torn by guilt and nightmares was gentle and kind to Ju ...more

I am volunteering to leave a review of this ARC book. I am so glad I chose to read this book. So well written. A fantastic plot. Wonderful characters. A very fast falling in love. But, will Felipe and Julia find a way to be with one another, or will they have to lead separate lives, loving each other until the days they die from afar. Read, and find out.

An English lady, on the verge of spinsterhood, accompanies an elderly lady on a cruise to the Mediterranean, working as her companion. A storm tears the ship apart. Only Julia’s life vest prevents her from joining the rest of the people on board in death. A Spanish duke, Felipe, hears the ship breaking up, and makes his way down to the shore to aid any survivors. He sees a woman caught on the rocks being tossed about and goes out to rescue her as the storm continues to rage. He successfully gets ...more

This is a new author for me and I liked that most of it took place in Spain vs. England. The author had me hooked from the beginning with the dark stormy night and a shipwreck.

I enjoyed the easy camaraderie between the H&H and how their relationship grew. I was confused though at times whether he or she wanted it to continue and be forever.

Overall a great read and loved how the Hero was a Spanish Duque vs. English duke, and that he spoke in Spanish to the Heroine sometimes. Very romantic boo

Love and a rescue

Julia was a companion to an elderly lady when the ship to Spain has a horrible wreck. Julia is the lone survivor! Rescued by Felipe she is intrigued by this handsome brooding gentleman! She soon realizes he is a Duke and thru a careless act causes a destructive fire! Rescuing Julia from certain death he starts to feel like he can make amends! Theirs is story of 2 souls bring out the best part of healing in the both of them! I love this authors way with words!

Beautiful story.

When I first started this book I wasn't sure why I had bought it but I soon discovered that this book was really beautifully written. Both main characters were so well portrayed. I loved Felipe and Julia and even Maria and Iago!
The era was new for me, late Victorian but set in Spain. Reminded me of the Spanish T V series the Grand Hotel!
I didn't want the book to end!

I could not get enough of this story I have read it once before and enjoyed it then and I enjoyed reading it this time. Duque de Torme rescues Julia Denman when the ship she is sailing on sinks Julia is the only survivor. George Julia's brother was really something imagine treating his sister that way. This is a well-written story that I would recommend. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and I also bought it.

Torment. Shipwreck. Two lost souls that somehow manage to come together and help one another when they need it the most. A quick read and a good read with likeable characters, even if they each have a tormented past. It flowed nicely and kept you reading to find out what was going to happen. So when you get a chance pick up a copy and enjoy.

Throw in a dark Spanish lord and a English damsel and you have the makings of a wonderful story. the fact that love was the only thing they had in common and it became a great story

So sweet!

This was such a sweet and delightful read! Julie was so tough and relatable. Felipe, well, he’s what I always imaged a tall, dark, and devastatingly handsome Spaniard would be. An absolutely wonderful read!

I liked that this story happened in Spain (such a romantic setting!). Felipe is a Spanish duke who has suffered a great loss. He feels guilty and fears he will never heal from the accident he caused. Julia, an Englishwoman, is shipwrecked near the duke's castle. He saves her, and together they both learn to heal & love.
