It does not rain. Not unless someone is killed.
Its been four months and the soil is hard and dry. People are suffering, the dam is low. Sarla, Dyle, Jex and Aila are the next chosen offerings. They will be sacrificed for rain, that is if they don't escape first.
The escape through the canyon is full of dangers, but stars shine on the other side. Surely it is safe where sta

Unless someone dies, it's gonna be a dry season.

I really enjoyed Crimson Skies. This novel is dark fantasy at its finest. The characters are enjoyable and likeable, and you almost feel a part of their clan as they make their escape through a macabre canyon from a place they once considered a home. You feel for them as they are confronted by abnormality after gruesome abnormality, and you'll be surprised at how things continue to get worse for the four as the story progresses. Just when you thoug

I managed to finish the book, hay to me!

So to start out with I met Kelan Gerriety at last year (2018) Africa Comic Con. I watched a panel about writing which she spoke in. I absolutely loved it! Here was a South Africa author that had made it. I wanted to be just like her. After the panel I went to her stall and picked up Crimson Skies and Into The Dark.

Fast forward to the next day when I finally had time to just curl up and dig into the book and imagine my horror to find that it was really bad

I don't even know where to start. I can honestly say I have never read a book quite like this. Since the moment I read the synopsis, I was intrigued, but since I only recently started finding fantasy books I enjoy, I was very sceptical about if I will truly enjoy this or just be able to acknowledge it was a good story but not really care for it. The latter was definitely wrong. This was so intriguing, disturbing at times and wonderfully told. I was shocked till the end. I can't wait to dive into ...more

Such potential for a huge world to be discovered in this series. If you're looking for all the answers in one book, this isn't the series for you. If you want to slowly discover an entire world and all the people in it, pick this up and hold off your questions if you can. Sometimes not fully knowing was half the fun of this book. ...more

I read this when it first came out and I thoroughly enjoyed it as I had been looking and waiting for a new fantasy world to immerse myself in. If you have ever felt the same, GET THIS BOOK! I really cannot wait for the 2nd one to come out and get taken back into this world again. I was also super proud that this was written by a South African! #proudlysouthafrican!

It was ok, but I think it would have been much better if the reader had some kind of idea of the world he finds himself in. Monsters here and there, cycles and clans etc etc. It's all a bit confusing without proper context, but maybe that will be coloured in with the sequels. ...more

A dark fantasy with developed characters that you root for. Interesting story line and a well built world. Really enjoyed it.

My heart hurts for all those that were lost on this intense journey. This story was terrifying as the poor runaways fought monsters, demons and ghosts to just live a little longer.

I have always written stories, starting in primary school with a flashlight and a notebook and pen under the covers at night to where I am now, a physical book in hand, printed and bound. Fantasy has a magical way of taking me on adventures any time life seemed too mundane or busy even, I love art and enjoy painting, lately I've started with miniature figurines. I have lots of pets, I love them de ...more
