Great story

Good read, but oh, so sad. To understand what the Cherokee went through makes you embarrassed to be part of the white race. But not all were evil, just the evil ones had the power. So sad. Good read!

I loved the book. I have a small amount of Cherokee in me which I think made this so much more interesting. I've recently discovered Heidi Vanlandingham's books and have enjoyed each one I've read.

It was difficult for me to push through the sad tragedy of the Trail of Tears but I was glad I did. This was a good book, nicely written.

In 1838, Sophia Deveraux's life is shattered when she refuses to marry a brutal Army officer. Her father is beaten and Major Todd has her taken from her lovely Georgia home. Sophia is dumped with the native people who are being forced off their land and penned up in Fort Wool. The peaceful Cherokees are kind to her and many of them have been educated, but their rich land and the potential for gold have made these proud people all but invisible to the arriving white settlers.
