A very weird children's book where a toxic-possessive adult relationship is essentially placed in a childhood setting, and the reader is invited to identify with the abuser: Lili, a strangely sexualized 11-year-old.
Very funny tidbits about the place of an angel in communist ideology (Christmas decoration is sold as "winged figures" in East Germany), and good depiction of the family atmosphere with the flirtatious mother and the always tipsy construction worker father no. 5. However, the main character is a sassy, boycrazy tween with a much older teen's knowledge about bodies; that she is precocious is not otherwise taken up by the novel. And of course, her main competitor for Ambrosius, the angel with the golden moustache, must be derided because of her looks. Superficial.
