Land of the Free is a futuristic dystopian fantasy filled with kick-butt heroines, villains, intelligent robots, and the never-ending desire to throw off the shackles of tyranny. The setting is in the year 3016 where the world has been ravaged by a series of wars that has significantly decreased the human population, essentially destroying the middle class, dividing the humans between the rich and the oppressed.

Under the thumb of the worldwide organization known as Y-Wood Corporation a small res

Firstly I want to thank the wonderful & kind Michael for giving me this opportunity to read & review his wonderful piece of art. Yes, for me it was a masterpiece & I've never read anything like it before. I really enjoyed the setting of the story & that the author threw me in an action sequence right away. It made me want to see more of what was going on & who was fighting for what. I felt as if I was there, that I knew martial arts - whic

Let’s get the disclaimer out of the way: I was given a copy by the author to review. This has in no way, shape or form altered my opinion which I am about to share with you.

The incredible cover had me mentally going “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme!” and I couldn’t wait to get my grubby little digital fingers all over it. The premise of the story had me so thrilled that I had judged the book by its cover because who doesn’t want the world saved by a group of smart, incredible, bad ass females who manage to

Land of the Free is not a novel. It is a collection of short stories written by someone who watched Kill Bill so many times that he developed a mental illness. That it is no coherent whole and couldn't have been written that way is evident from the fact that the overarching premise of the piece (that various females are part of the secret sisterhood of "Mystical Slayers" fighting against the corporation "Y-Wood") is reintroduced at the beginning of practically every "chapter."

So bad, it's funny

DNF. I got bored by page 17. I think it's a spoof but maybe he wrote this seriously. It might just be my current mindset that won't let me get into it.

The writing is horrible. The backstory is simplistic and the U.S. while crumbling, still rules the world. The story is so bad that it should be funny. You might be in the mood for this.

This book is simply terrible. It is sexist and the author seems to just want to talk about hot girls with “greatly enhanced breasts”. I would rate this a 0 or a negative number if I could. No plot, extraordinarily bad writing, no character growth whatsoever. Just offensive and truly bad.

Land of the Free is a thrilling story in every which way possible! From the tactical fight scenes that are injected with the professional martial arts know-how of the author, through to the heroic battles of the sisterhood, the creepy associates of the corporation, and everything else in between, this is a book which will not only keep you turning the pages, but leave you wanting to know more about the the history of the sisterhood, and of course, leave you needing to know what happens next! Received my first ever ARC so simply had to put down my current read and blast through this wonderful adventure.

If you like lots of gritty detail in your fights, this is the book for you. The author clearly has experience in this realm.

If you like female leads that kick butt, boy are you in for a treat. There are quite a few of those.

Synopsis: Set in a bleak future, some girls kick butt.

Why not 5 Stars? Probably down to a pet peeve of mine. It seemed that the characters were described to me

Throughout human history, we have always been regaling tales in some fashion or another; mostly by verbal tales until the written word was discovered. Recorded history has come quite a ways since then- radio, films (silent, black and white, and color with sound) and television. One of my favorite ways of communicating these tales are books- the world you are visiting is only limited by the author’s descriptive abilities and

This book is dedicated to all the beautiful people in the world; those that always have hope, believe in love and cherish freedom.

Religious and nuclear wars have made the landscape more savage than ever, and the rich now rule the world. But there still is a glimmer of hope. A sisterhood of beautiful, patriotic women, enhanced

Today, my Gentle Readers, I have a futuristic post apocalyptic story for you to check out. I enjoyed this book and recommend it, but with a few disclaimers.

Huard has built us a world where in the wake of widespread destruction and warfare, a corporation has arisen to take over all important aspects of our lives. The rich get richer and the poorer, well, maybe they live something akin to a life. To the average person, the American Dream is beyond dead. Enter the Q-Jin, the Mystical Slayers: a gr

Land of the Free is quite the intriguing read. All of the women contained within this killer novel are the definition of empowering. Each character bringing their own uniqueness to the table, which allows for a very interesting read when different personalities collide. Then when you add the martial arts and trying to save the world from the impending doom of a psychopath you just get this amazing read that takes you on one wild ride.

Erotica disguised as dystopian fantasy.

Probably one of the worst books I’ve ever read, looked at, or even had the misfortune of owning.

Every character is introduced as the size of their genitalia and hair color.

One of my favorite lines was;
“How could a woman who is so hot be so unbelievably smart!”

I didn’t even read the whole book, just skipped around and cracked jokes about the poor writing, terrible dialogue, and blatant sexism.

I don’t think this book actually has plot other than “women h

This is not my usual genre however I am so happy I read this book. the concept of a future world fascinated me and a world full of beautiful, strong female leads fighting for the cause of more equity and fairness in society, made it a total winner.

Written in a way that describes everything clearly it was easy to picture every scene and visualise clearly what the world looked like. It would not be plesant! The fight scenes were amazing, well written and exciting.

As with any first book the story,
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. It's the first book in the Mystical Slayers series.
This is a dystopian type story meets Sci-Fi fantasy. It's about a group of powerful women who fight against the Y-Wood (which seemed to be all men?). The women are pretty awesome and if your looking for a story about amazingly powerful women kicking robotic butt then this may be the story for you! More Wonder Woman meets Terminator than your usual dystopian story.

Land of the Free is the first book I've read by the author, Michael M. Huard.
A dystopian/fantasy with some sci-fi elements.
I love the concept of strong female characters/warriors known as the Mystical Slayers fighting for freedom from oppression by a tyrannical threat. I had a little difficulty with the execution of the story. I found the characters to be a little two dimensional and would've loved more in-depth development of character and world.
There was a lot of action some of which flowed we

This style of book is completely out of my comfort zone. Not my genre at all but I have to say I really enjoyed it. What an amazing and creative mind to come up with this story line and to lay it all out so that it makes sense and who knows , is even believable. Could this happen? Not in my lifetime but perhaps in the future it could be a possibility. I love that that major characters are all strong, brave, powerful, intelligent women. And he built the story line around them. Could you survive in the 31st century?

A group of warrior women, enhanced, intelligent, and powerful. Each unique in their own way, have one goal. "Freedom for All" and belief in the old way. They will fight to the death for their beliefs. America has fallen into ruin. Controlled by a group of greedy old men, their motto is "Obey or Die". The author has created an uncertain future world, with a fantastic cast of characters. Human warriors, cyborgs, robots, battles, love and tragedy, it's all here

This is the first book I've read by this author Michael W. Huard, and I really enjoyed it. It is the story about the Mystical Slayers some kick-butt superhero women who take on the bad guys and evil robots in the 31st century world in America. The only thing I didn't like about it was all the cussing and foul language, but I guess perhaps that was appropriate for the character. This is of course a sci-fi novel, but through this story and its plot Huard conveys some important messages. Check it o ...more

I loved this book. I was happy to read a book about a group of strong unique women. It was nice to see that even though the women trained together, taught the same and used the same serum they each had their own individual traits. Each was strong in their own way. They were strong alone but nearly unstoppable as a group
The action was non-stop and awesome. It keeps your attention through the whole book. I am definilety a fan of the Mystical Slayers. Loved when they whooped some Y-Wood butt. I was

I enjoyed the book and I'm definitely a huge fan of strong women. The women in Mystical Slayers are genetically modified and created to take down Y-Wood. They go through intense combat training and have heightened intelligence. Each have their own roles, skill sets, and personalities. It's very patriotic, Amazonian-like and highlights female empowerment. I really enjoyed the fighting scenes, there's a lot of page turning action throughout the book. The writing could use some improvement, but it ...more

Dystopian and grim, mixed with adventure and a kind of zany, almost satirical fun. Originally, I had to overlook a few editing errors (most books have a few, after all), but it was still a great read, and I'm told those have been fixed, too (even better!). The author does a good job taking a futurist view and then sticking it in a blender with different genre influences, while keeping it solidly dystopian. If you like darker fiction, black humor, and superhero-like flavor, you'll enjoy Land of t ...more

Imagine the bots from Terminator going against a group of highly trained beautiful women hell bent on restoring America’s once great legacy of freedom and justice and you have Land of the Free.

This story begins in the far future after the world has been ravaged by several world wars and only the Corporations have remained intact and in power. There are no laws besides the ones declared by the Corporations. Humanity is in a desperate, hopeless state. Michael Huard’s post apocalyptic America is n

Shelves: cyberpunk
A fun and wild story about gladiators, the fourth apocalypse (they've had multiple ones before), the end of humanity, and a beautiful lady with a magic ax who is wrapped in the flag. Lots of weird stuff happens in this revolt against a corporate-controlled dystopia. There's some flaws in the book like the characters never really sitting down to talk between epic robot fights but that's not the kind of book this is.

I'll get the downside of this book out of the way first: I had difficulty connecting to most of the characters. I DID, however, absolutely love the fight scenes. Those are all so vividly done, to the point where you can tell that the author definitely knows what he's talking about. And the fact that the females are doing much of the ass-kicking is what makes the fight scenes truly special. I'd recommend it.

A fast paced tumble through one battle after another! The Mystic Slayers are determined to take out the mega Corp Y-Wood! After a failed attempt on Y-Wood's Headquarters the Slayers are pushed back on the defensive! Y-Woods retaliation is swift and brutal costing the Slayers two key bases and three of their sisters! These books take Fiction Fantasy adventure to a whole new level! I voluntarily read an Advanced Reviewer Copy of this book.

Very different interesting perspective on a very common controversial topic. Realistically any thinking human on this planet recognizes there is something big changing in the world. Many different hopes, fears, and conspiracies try to define that change. Beautiful to see strong woman role models leading in enacting change. Lots's of action.

In all honesty, I had a very hard time finishing this book. I liked the characters and the concept of this story, but overall the story jumps around a lot . The women are kick butt and inspiring, going against Y Wood and what the Corporation stands for and all the bad it has done, but I just couldn't get into it.....
