Delightfully-told with delightful illustrations.

Text heavy, short on illustrations. Certainly not meeting the criteria for a picture book.
Plus, the stories were strange and abrupt.

I love the illustrations, and the stories are good (I loved this as a child). Japanese fairy tales have a different tone and pace to Western ones, which makes a fun change.

Another one of the Baroness's childhood books, I loved this collection of folk tales and enjoyed reading them to my son even if he's too old to understand what I'm saying-yet. Sure to be a favorite in the coming years. :)
